Poured from an 11.2 oz bottle into a clear pint glass. Paid $1.65 for single at Life Source Natural Foods in Salem, OR. Bottled first week of August (2011 I hope). My second gluten-free beer. I liked Estrella Damm Daura much better, and I don't much care for lagers.

A-Pours a very pale yellow with an unimpressive white head that dissipates much too quickly. Sounded like soda pop when pouring.

S-The aroma is more apple than anything else. In fact, looks and smells more like apple cider.

T-As with the aroma, taste is very much like apple cider with a light rice note.

M-Watery and too thin.

O-This is the first sorghum based gluten-free beer I have had and hope others are better.

If I hadn't poured this right from the can I would think this was a semi-dry cider. The very pale color, slight lacing, sweet finish... it's not entirely unpleasant but I can't detect even a hint of hops. Glutenberg Blonde is too sweet but at least it tastes like beer.

Perfect gluten-free beer. Just water, plant material, and yeast. No needless acid preservatives or added sweeteners. Light, crisp, refreshing, clean taste. You can taste what's there--rice and hops and a bit of sorghum. All/Most of the other gluten-free beers are merely "gluten reduced," and others often have added thickeners and sweeteners. To reiterate, this is one of the best gluten-free beers/pilsners you can come by. The lack of added sweeteners and wheat/gluten is great for not feeding pathogens as much as regular beer, and is even better than most ciders in that regard.

DATE: July 1, 2021... OCCASION: finishing an early-summer Tolkien viewing tradition with a beer I've had on a few occasions but haven't yet appreciated in a sitting such as this.... GLASSWARE: Ommegang pokal... pours a spritzy, reasonably bubbling sallow yellow body, its head quickening to an off-white ring... heavy wafts of apple cider, champagne, Saaz hops, barnyard blanket and hay must as well... not a clean aroma, but it approximates the style with the expected lack of malts...its body is light, watery but spritzy, with a quick passage through the mouth... it leaves an impression of fruits at the teeth and refreshes dryly at the back end... lacking the crispness of a pilsner, this instead opts for a more rounded mouthfeel... its flavor follows through on its aroma, reveling in apple and honey, with graham cracker, white grape, and lemon make this a varied experience, one that does refresh, if not invigorate... many will say this cannot be judged against its glutenous counterparts, but even in this light, it still pairs with enough food to be useful and stands well enough alone to enjoy on its own...well rendered, Lakefront....

For a gluten-free beer, this lager is pretty damn good...

I haven't had much luck with GFBs, in fact, I haven't really found any that I truly like. Then this one comes along, a lager of all things, and it is tasty as all things. The things that stand out to me on this beer, I mean, really stand out to me are how clear the lager was to the eyes, how clean and refreshing the lemon smell was to the nose, and the matching clean and refreshing lemon taste to the tongue. Truly a lager to have on hand over the summer, sessionable for those hot days, and all around great.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Crystal clear light golden pour with 2 fingers of fluffy white head. Falls fast... modest lacing.

S: Sweet... sorghum and adjunct. Light hops.

T.F: Sweet up front. As others have noted a little cidery. Light hops... unbalanced towards the sweet (the sorghum?). A little fruity and medicinal. Light bodied and well carbonated.

O: Hard to grade this one... and if you're dealing celiac it's probably one of the better 'gluten free' brews I've had. Still not one I'd ever reach for and doesn't compare to a real pils. Needs more hops and some bite.
