Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Look – medium brown in color, with about half a finger’s worth of khaki-colored foam that dissipates slowly.

Smell – very spicy! I can smell it from about four inches away. It has a mulled wine type of spiciness to it. Other than that, just malty.

Taste - also very spicy, again, in a mulled wine type of way. Very “festive” tasting. Beyond the nutmeg and clove, it’s mostly just malty with a tinge of bitterness that could either come from the spices or from the hops.

Mouthfeel – pretty well balanced, not leaning more toward wateriness or creaminess.

Overall – very interesting brew, and very good-tasting. Lovely choice for the season.

12 oz bottle split and poured into a 4 oz plastic cup at Lakefront.

Thanks to Andy for sharing this. It really got me excited for the barrel-aging they're doing with some brews.

A - Slightly darker than normal perhaps, this one is a clear and dark amber brown with a fizzy low head. The alcohol will do that to a brew.

S - Warm alcohol with a very light hint of bourbon and a kiss of vanilla in front of the classic I love. Smooth malt and well-blended spice and honey.

T - Take the original Holiday Spice awesomeness and make it even better by aging it in bourbon barrels. This beer has smooth amber and caramel malt with a great spice level that's accented by mellow vanilla and subtle bourbon.

M - Smooth as can be, the alcohol heat usually present in the Holiday Spice is mellowed down even more. The body is rich and creamy with a spicy kick to the finish.

D - As the alcohol is laid back more, the beer becomes even more drinkable. I'd be buying a case of this if it were released.

Thanks to Andy for providing me a bottle!

A: deep mahogany color, frothy long-lasting head
S: traditional Holiday Spice with tons of spices, bourbon barrel backdrop quite noticeable, serious EtOH
T: massive amount of EtOH, spiced, creamy, with good strong bourbon taste, I was expecting more towards the traditional HS but it's really different, bourbon is dominant but blends very nicely with spices
M: creamy but chewy also with the EtOH and grains, well-balanced and smooth
O: very good beer, bourbon aging gives the beer incredible depth
