$9.99 / 8 Pack
Lakefront Variety Pack
Dan's Liquor
Stevens Point, Wisconsin

Appearance - Upon first pour I knew this was going to be interesting. This lager's pour is bright red. Once in the pint the color firms to a hazy shade of a bright maroon. This cherry's head stood tall at about 2.5 inches and faded back at a moderate pace to leave a thin layer of light tan head on the brew's surface.

Smell - Not much here as a few strong whiffs relay only a slight cherry scent.

Taste - I've never had a beer that has two waves of bitterness. It starts out with a light malt and moves to a hop flavor, which is immediately covered up by the cherry taste. It then finishes with a more substantial bitterness and then a lasting tart flavor. I have to say it is very unique. Simply because of the complexity here I have to rate the taste high. I'm not really thinking I like the flavors but I have to admit it is a work of art.

Mouthfeel - Smooth as it begins and then moves out to the rear sides of my tongue with the tartness. It is a lovely texture.

~ This is certainly not the type of brew you have while hanging with a group of friends watching a football game. This is the after dinner, or appetizer beers that allot of breweries are not trying out. I must suggest picking this up and giving it a try.

Light pumpkin orange with a minute white head and small but steady and lasting carbonation. Aroma is spicy, reminiscent of pumpkin beer. I smell nutmeg, cinnamon, cardamom, all spice, and more. Cherry notes are light and fairly real. It’s not candy. There is some tartness and genuine fermented fruit in the nose but it is light. German malts are also present. Taste is surprising. The cherry flavor is subtle and really only found in the background. This beer is primarily a lager, sweet and malt driven, a tad under hopped, but not repulsive. I think Lakefront has done a good thing here. Too often the temptation with fruit beers is to make them overwhelming or candy like. In this case Lakefront has held back and the results are decent, if not good. Mouthfeel is light and creamy. Finish is wet and sweet. Drinkability is not too bad, especially considering that this is a fruit beer.

I think this beer got a bad rep on the BA reviews. It actually surprised me; I was expecting cherry juice and got a nice, hearty ale. The taste of barley is strong with a hint of cherries. The aroma presents a stronger presence of cherry, with the promise of something sweet and sour. The color is a rosy brown with a light, foamy head, no pink anywhere to be found.
All in all, a great beer, light mouthfeel, good for everyday drinking.

Pours a cloudy coral pink body with a one finger offpink head that leaves some scanty lacing. Aroma of toasted grain and tart cherries. Light medium body with moderate carbonation. Taste is toasted grains and tart cherries. Not much else noted, but to its credit the cherry taste is not sweet or artificial. A decent summer quaffer.

Appearance: pinkish brown, medium head, medium carbonation

Smell: some cherry, wheat, malt, and currants

Taste: wheat, cherries, and some banana..almost like drinking a yoplait cherry banana yogurt

Mouthfeel: smooth, slightly crisp, sweetness on the aftertaste

Drinkability: Not a bad beer, but nothing great either...Kinda the beer equivalent of a flavored yogurt..I could have two or three, but could just as easily pop a Leinenkugel and be as happy

Slightly reddish bronze, very clear appearance. The head struggles, then falls flat, clinging as a collar with incomplete sparse lace. Aroma is malty, free of artificial cherry or any real cherry, a little bit of walnut. Subtle cherry flavor to start, bigger at the finish with a note of astringency. Honeyish malt lingers side-by-side, hard to detect and hopping at all. The mouthfeel is a little sub par, flattish. The noticeable fruit is not aggrevating, OK in presentation, but I can't give this one much better than occassionaly quaffable if in the mood.

12 oz bottle. (April 2014 bottling?)
The hazy reddish-amber body is covered by a small weak head. Aroma of canned cherries and biscuit. The flavor is similar and rather reminiscent of cherry pie, although way less sweet: this lager has a nice mix of sweet, tart and faint bitter aspects.

Golden-orange with pink highlights. Loud, fizzy head runs away quickly.
Tart cherry nose with lots of empty spaces. A little bready, perhaps, below that.
Begins with a light bready malt, with pinpricks of cherry sourness. Somewhat musty tasting. The sourness is really all that is going on here, and it is very, very minor. I am searching and searching, but I can't find anything else here.
Watery and dilute.

A horseshit lager with a subtle cherry boost is still a horseshit lager.
No thanks.

Well I've spent enough time in Wisconsin airports to have become more than familiar with the regular line-up of Lakefront beers, but I've never seen this one. Bummer! It's pretty darned good!

It appears as you might expect, with a bit of a pinkish and/or crimson cast to it. It's clear though, which is nice. And it has a pinkish head to it. The head is short, and it's limited, but it does hold for a short period, and it leaves a few splatters and spots of lace about the glass.

The nose is fruity, but in more of a fruit pulp or generic fruit juice kind of way. It doesn't scream cherry, at all. There is a hint of tartness to it though.

The flavor is more revealing though, and it really is quite like a very lightly sweet, semi-tart cherry. Lightly juicy. Refreshing. And nothing more. There's no real malt, there's no real hop. Just juice.

It's very drinkable, and not really much like a beer at all. I guess more importantly, it tastes natural. There's no extract flavor to it, and it doesn't have fruit flavors competing with maltiness or dull, low-level hoppiness. Very nicely done!

Pours with a pink , red color , a slight copper tint on the edges.
A tight , short , thick head that has a pink hue to it. Head seems to hang around a long time.
a lot of carbonation .

A sweet , fruit aroma arises right away after pour , You can tell this is a cherry lager . Cherry hits the nose right away and lasts for the duration of the drink.

Taste is what you would expect after the smell. Lots of sweet cherry . Some bitterness in the background but not a whole lot.
Very easy to put a few of theses down the hatch.

A good beer for a fruit lager.

Paid $1.59 for a 12 oz. bottle. A clear pinkish color, almost like cherry 7-up mixed with pale ale. No head to speak of. Smell is fruity, but not much there overall. Taste is solid - fruit & sour, not too sweet. Mouthfeel is fairly astringent. All in all not a terrible fruit brew, but not great either. Certainly not something you'd want several pints of.

Poured a reddish amber color with a light pink head, almost no retention and zero lacing.

The smell has a bit of toasted malt with a light tart cherry.

Has a very typical average amber ale flavor with decent toasted bready caramel malts with just a very light sour cherry flavor. Almost no hops to speak of.

The mouthfeel is light with decent carbonation.

Very average beer. Makes an acceptable amber, but I think if you are going to make a cherry beer I think it should be a bit more committed to the cherry.

Pours a golden red color with a tight light pink head that settled into a light cap. The aroma is remarkably light for a fruit beer, can't really pick up the cherries, just a general tart fruitiness. The taste is definitely of cherries, which starts out sweet then converts to tart. The fruit taste is supported by a buttery bready malt. Kind of has a diet Cherry fruit drink taste going on, which is ok since it is not cloying. The feel is light with fairly soft carbonation, finishes slight tart. A decent fruit brew. It doesn't appear any artifical flavors were added. Easier to drink than the SA Cherry Wheat.

A: Moderately hazy autumn-orange shows some light amber tints. A flat fizzy head is parchment in color and quick to dissipate. The glass showed a lacing that was thin and sparse while inside revealing a quickly paced effervesce of medium density.

S: Light and insignificant nose, amber grains and light dried cherries chime through with a bit of imagination and clear sinuses.

T: Cherry is the most prominent in the taste along with sweet apple and cereal grains. Candy like sweetness, almost artificial, with a bit of cherry cough medicine. Not sure who I feel overall in regards to flavor, sweet and artificial with a wine cooler like mentality. The hopping is held to a minimum, with a clean sense providing spontaneous instances of recognition.

M: fizzy, medium based with a syrupy consistency. Mundane best sums things up here.

O: Overall if you are a fan of fruity and sweet beers that resemble more of a wine cooler flavor then beer, then this might be for you. The sweetness of this and cough medicine like alcohol will no doubt be held in check for repeats. Pass.
