2012 vintage (aged with American oak spirals) sampled at Snallygaster 2014. Super smooth and pretty tasty.

A stellar barleywine aged in Woodford Reserve barrels. Quite a treat...

Presentation: 12 oz draft serving. Presented as the Brewer's Marker, with the chalkboard offering a small description, notes tapping date 1/9, .23.0 OG, 3.0 FG and 13.0 % Alc. by Vol. Served in a slender tulip glass.

A - Dark brown pour with a softy frothy one finger of head, moderate retention with good surface memory and touches of lacing.

S - Mmmm, nice nose… Malty, sweet, caramel, vanilla, dash of bourbon. Direct but very stimulating if what follows is close...

T - …and the mouth expands beautifully the announcement form the aroma. Sweet malty goodness, caramel, vanilla and soft woody bourbon with dark fruits lingering softy in the back, light dates, floral nuances and back to the malty bourbon.

M - Medium/full to full body, rather creamy, and smooth with medium/soft carbonation, small bubbles but a nicely tingly finish with an emerging boozy warmth. Hmmm, I'm just thinking this could be hand-pumped but I don't think they had a second engine. Need to ask...

O - Beautifully rounded sipper. Feeling perfect today.

Notes: Very nice surprise and a brew to remember. It may lack longer nuances but as it is the feel one gets of rounded and compact barrel aging, assertive but not overpowering, long and rich with a direct sense of malt and sweet wood is fantastic.
