Don’t miss out on the intense roasted malts, silky smooth mouth feel, subtle sweetness and velvety chocolate goodness of our 2X Chocolate Milk Stout. We went over the top, with more malt, the infusion of cacao nibs and pure chocolate for a truly otherworldly chocolate stout experience.

I used a "Gatekeeper" glass, which is a pint glass with a top that pinches in then flairs out sharply. The coal black beer is pretty in the glass, especially with the 1/2" foam filling the flared portion of the glass. The head is similar in color and looser that Capuchino foam, and quickly fades to a ring, leaving patches of lace and a syrupy film along the way. When put to a light, the beer has a reddish-auburn halo.

It smells of milk chocolate fudge and malt balls. There is a mild coffee mixed with faint soapiness. The soapiness is never a pleasant aroma.

When astringency in the finish is strong enough to garner first mention, one knows something is off. This said, warmth clears that out, allowing roasted malt and fudge to take proper place. Mild notes of cherry are evident, along with sweetness. further warmth brings cafe late. The finish ultimately transforms, becoming rather mild, sweet and tasting of cafe late.

A full body with a sticky texture. Alcohol is more prevalent than expected. Carbonation provides a light scrubbing. And the astringency varies from initially high to slight over time.

This is one that should sit open for about ten minutes to be enjoyed after it warm a good bit. Definitely more on the dessert end of the spectrum, although not as sweet as some can be. The roasted malt maintains drinkability. Thanks to Dana for this offering.

Double Chocolate Milk Stout pours black with not much head. The aroma is mild but sweet and filled with fresh milk chocolate. The flavor is sweet and very creamy, lots of lactose sweet milk chocolate, very candy like. Good body and feel. Overall, a very rich milk stout loaded with sweet milk chocolate notes.

12 oz. can. Black body with a creamy beige head. Strong chocolate flavor with a smooth mouthfeel. Slight roasted bitterness and minimal hop presence.

This is wonderful example of the style and a long-time favorite of mine.

A semi-aggressive pour from a can into a shaker provided a khaki 2-finger head, which dissipated to a skim that laced nicely. Very dark brown but not black.

Nose is heavy (I mean HEAVY) chocolate, almost like chocolate liqueur. A hint of coffee if swirled. Hop aroma is close to nil.

Taste of chocolate follows the nose, but to a lesser degree. No harsh roast, and I didn’t get the “intense roasted malts” mentioned in the description by Lancaster. I was pleased/impressed by the bittering; coupled with the roast and chocolate it gives me on/and/off impressions of coffee and bitter-sweet chocolate.

Mouthfeel is not as thick as a ‘heavy’ oatmeal stout, not as thin as a regular stout. I’ll call it “baby bear” good for this beer. Carbonation is just enough to escape you in a swallow, but enough to fizz a bit if swished in the mouth and release the mild roast/coffee and (again) chocolate.

Overall, this is a winner in y book. Not only because I liked it, but also because I think the brewer hit the target. This is my second Lancaster double chocolate milk stout. It was supplied by a friend up PA way who comes to my area only occasionally…..I’ll be hitting him up for more.

Thanks to Ozzylizard for this one, from his box during NBS BIF #14. 12oz can poured into 14oz teku. Poured a solid black color with about an inch-and-a-quarter of light brown head that had great retention and light lacing.

The aroma was strong chocolate. Very strong chocolate. There were some light malt notes hanging around, and no hop presence.

Pretty much the same on the tongue, with just a slight touch of roast added in.

The body was pretty typical; medium-full, smooth, and with a medium finish that leaned a bit towards sweet.

Drinkability was very nice, I'd have it again, but I probably wouldn't have two in a row.

Overall, a nicely enjoyable brew. Certainly worth trying if you see it.

12oz can into snifter glass, served at cellar temp

L- Pours dark minimal foam which dissipates quickly.
S- The chocolate notes are definitely there. Very pleasant
T- Sweet, lactose - a little sweet for my liking but I think this was the intent of the brewer. The sweet aftertaste definitely persists which might appeal to some... not to me.
F- Well balanced
O- Similar to my experiences with other "sweet" stouts. I think it achieves its objective. It is definitely chocolatey and sweet, so this will probably hit the mark for those looking for a dessert-y beer. I think this is best appreciated by others however.
