Pours dark brown with a lasting off-white head.
Nose shows roasted malt, roasted coffee and biscuity rye.
Very similar flavours, but with rich roasty characters throughout. More coffee notes too.
Carbonation seems a bit high, could be lowered a bit.

Drank from my Chimay Chalice

A - Pours the classic cola colour with a tanned head that reduces to a film that laces.

S - Nice creamy vanilla and coffee notes, almost like an iced coffee aroma.

T - Up front some nice vanilla flavours followed by some really smooth coffee notes with a hint of mocha. The finish is very slightly bitter and very nicely balanced sweetness. Very well balanced.

M - Medium to full body with low carbonation and very smooth.

O - Really liked this one. Its balance is impressive and as it warms becomes even better. I have tried all the single batches to date and this one is up there with the Dreadnought as the best yet. I will put one down in my cellar and review in a year or so.

A: Pours a deep chocolate brown with a dense light khaki head. Lots of lacing.
S: Bit of roast, spice and coffee.
T: Bitter roast malt with a bit of chocolate and coffee. A little Christmas cake. Huge rye spiciness that hangs around through the finish.
M: Medium mouth feel with a crisp finish.
O: Interesting idea but the rye is very dominant and clashes with the roast malts.

Imperial Pint into a Lost Abbey Teku. Why not.

A-- Dark brown with ruby highlights. One finger mocha colored head, good structure and body to head. Keeps retention very well. Finally settles to a thick ringed collar. Good spotty and thick lacing with this.

S-- Milk chocolate, soft earth coffee, caramel, and a lot of nuts. Hazelnut and almonds. Good nose.

T-- Some earthy coffee bitterness followed by caramel, dairy milk and nutella. Smooths out very nicely. Missing the spice from the rye but still quite a nice beer.

M-- Medium bodied, medium carbonation. Nice finish of nutella.

O-- Possibly the best single batch to date. Very well done, except little to no Rye with this.

Well it's that time again! The time when birds are chirping, the sky is blue, and Little Creatures releases that glorious thing they call "Single Batch". This time the batch is named after a character Alan Rickman played in a mini-series in the early 80's... I think. Why thank you Mr Obadiah, sir.

Poured from a pint bottle into a nonic pint.

A: A deep bistre brown, whether it is cloudy or clear is virtually impossible to detect with the naked eye, however as it is a Little Creatures brew my guess is that it's cloudy. The head is tan speckles, i.e. no head.

S: Rich dark chocolate and coffee aromas mingle with a spicy rye note. Deep dark and instantly appealing for a Porter. There are also hints of vanilla and earthy hops present.

T: Hits like a ton of bricks, espresso bricks to be precise. The flavour of this brew is totally uncompromising and I like that. Espresso, vanilla, earthy hops, cacao, caramel sugar and a hint of pepper in the background. Finish is slightly bitter with a little Porter smokiness thrown in.

M: Mid to heavy bodied, chewy mouth feel with a light carbonation.

D: This is one flavoursome beer! Actually is very reminiscent of Harviestoun's Old Engine Oil and I wouldn't be surprised if the single batch brewers modelled this brew after it. The rye is the only thing for me that differentiates these two beers with it adding a nice touch of pepper spice and giving it a slight edge. Will I drink it again? Yes, whilst I can. After that Harviestoun's Old Engine Oil is my knight in black armour.

Food match: The thickest stew you can find along with the heaviest rye bread - buttered of course.

Pours a dark cherry cola hue with a fluffy creamy two finger head that leaves nice clingy lacing, the smell is strong roasted peanuts, dark chocolate, spicy rye, dark fruits and chestnuts, the mouthfeel is just under medium bodied with moderate carbonation and has tastes of dark chocolate, roasty nutty malts, only the slightest touch of spicy rye and finished with a bittersweet hit of dark fruits and overall yeah it's good but its not something I will remember either but good to see they have upped the ante since their last couple of single batches cheers.

From Jims

A - Deep brown, with tan one finger head, wonderful spotty lace everywhere

S - roasts, rye, subdued

T - roasts, rye, coffee, a little smoke, a little cigar box, pistachio notes.

M - lightly carbonated.

O - I am not a big fan of rye, and this is no exception. Quite dry overall, but not unpleasant and well made with complexity. Difficult to be objective about a taste element you do not like, however, I do like and respect LC Single Batches, hence need to try.
