Grupo Modelo S.A. de C.V. "Estrella Jalisco"
12 fl. oz. clear glass bottle, coded "LD198148 02:00"
$1.79 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ
Notes via stream of consciousness: I was expecting this to be skunked but it's not. Interesting. On the other hand, it doesn't smell that great either. It's sweetish and "malty" although I'm quite sure there's a lot of adjunct in use, it has that kind of aroma to it. It's poured a clear yellow gold body beneath a short head of bright white that's made up of fairly large bubbles. No lacing. On to the flavor... yes, there's definitely a lot of sugar added to this one. If you're not sure what a heavily adjunct laden beer tastes like this is a perfect example. It just doesn't have a full malt flavor, it's sugary, and it's "thin" in flavor. Fortunately it's pretty clean. Sometimes these beers show a lot of fermentation flaws but this one is pretty good. As you might imagine there's hardly any hop flavor to it, and what is there is very "generic". I'm guessing it's hop extract but who knows. A modest bitterness balances it fairly well but some sweetish "malt" does stick around in the end. I don't particularly find that pleasant but it's not cloying. There's not enough to it for that to happen, it's only medium-light in body; and the crisp carbonation helps to clean it up a little bit as well. I'll assume that most people drink this with a lime wedge which would probably work. Ahh, and so I've made the Corona Extra connection, I might as well go ahead and compare the two and just say that Corona Extra has more malt flavor to it and probably undergoes a longer maturation in the tank. This isn't horrible but it's not as good. I wonder if it's cheaper? Regardless, I can't really recommend this unless you have no other choice.

Presentation: 12 ounce bottle poured into a pint glass
Look: a darker golden color than I expected. Moderate size head which evaporates rather quickly. Moderate carbonation.
Smell: primary odors are roasted malt, and grains. Minor hops aroma. Somewhat of a sweet smell too.
Taste: primary flavors are roasted malt, grains, and hops. Slightly sweet taste with a bitter aftertaste. The flavor is light overall but enjoyable. I would describe the taste as like a lighter version of Modelo Especial.
Feel: smooth and light mouthfeel. Not creamy but not watery.
Overall: this is a decent Mexican lager. Not as good as Modelo Especial but better than Corona. It’s highly drinkable. It’s as easy to drink as a light beer. I’d recommend this beer to anyone who is looking for an easy to drink lager with a flavorful aftertaste.

This was better than Dos Equis green bottle, but not as good as Dos Equis Ambar. In my area, Dos Equis Ambar is hard to find, so this works, but it's not my top choice.

From a 12oz bottle. Clear golden color. Grain and floral aroma. Light body. Sweet corn and a light floral flavor on the finish. Seems fresh since there's no skunky aroma despite the clear glass. Just not a lot of flavor.

Poured a tall boy into a plastic cup. Soupy and off-color but straw-like. Smell is unintrusive, faint corn maybe, some chemicals. Taste is the problem. It's tasteless. I think I would have preferred this tasting bad than not tasting much. This makes Mich Ultra resemble a Porter...refreshing I guess because it's carbonated and cold. Inoffensive for sure. But not memorable in any way. If you drink a lot of beer you know what I'm saying. You can take something away from everything you've ever tried. Not this one. Not horrible but not reccomened and not for session work. I wonder if it's better on tap?

Ok as macro lagers go this really wasn't bad! Paired great with the burrito I had. Mostly clear marco yellow body with an eggshell white head, though retention is limited. Corn malt and grains in nose. Taste much the same but with some light yeast. Carbonation is way too higher though, and yeah don't let it warm up as bloating with start, otherwise crisp and malty.

drank from an undated 12 oz long neck bottle.
crystal clear golden yellow color, bright and sparkling.
some aromas of malt, hops and biscuit, and corn.
Taste was sweet, malty some hops and a bit of skunk on the back end. Otherwise pretty flat and tasteless
Mouthfeel was crisp and clean medium carbonation slight fizz on the tongue and a lingering skunk like feel. No layers of flavor to speak of
Overall, not a real complex brew, basically a mass produced guzzler. Probably a cookout favorite amongst the non craft beer fans. It hit a lot of what a pilsner should be in feel and appearance. The taste was kind of bland.

Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – As would be anticipated form the look in the clear glass, the beer pours a clear golden color with a small head of white foam. The head fades quite fast, leaving a decent sum of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is strongest of a caramel malt smell mixed with a decent showing of a grainy aroma. Along with these smells comes a touch of herb and a hint of skunk.
Taste – The taste begins with a rather crisp grainy malt flavor mixed with a touch of caramel and corn sweetness. The corn gets stronger as the taste advances and id joined by a hint of herbal hop. While present in the nose, the skunk is not detectable in the flavor profile, with one left with a crisp grainy and corn strong taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body is light and crisp with a higher carbonation level. For the session nature and the light flavors the feel is good and makes for a rather easy sipper.
Overall – A rather enjoyable easy drinking brew. I think I got one that didn’t sit in the light too long, as there was really no detectable skunkiness on the tongue. A nice warm weather session style brew.

Had at local Mexican restaurant. Very unassuming, mixes very well with the taco. Light, quickly dissipating, crisp.
