Notes / Commercial Description:
Cerveza Pacífico Clara, better known as Pacífico, is a Mexican pilsner-style beer. It was first brewed in 1900 when three Germans opened a brewery, the Cerveceria del Pacífico in Mazatlán. Cerveza Pacifico is named so because the Pacifico brewery is located in the Pacific Ocean port city of Mazatlán, in the state of Sinaloa, México. Its label includes a picture depicting a lifesaver encompassing a hill with the port's lighthouse, known locally as "Cerro del Crestón." In Mazatlán, the beer is available in three different size bottles: "cuartitos" (6 fl. oz), "medias" (12 fl. oz.), and "ballenas" (32 fl. oz.). "Clara" means clear, as opposed to "obscura" (dark).

Pacifico came in a brown bottle and was a light clear gold color with good carbonation. The head was unimpressive and was quickly gone. There was no lace. The smell was a little grainy (not skunky) with a trace of citrus. The taste was also grainy with some hop bite and a little sweetness. The finish was dry and grainy. Something to shoot down on hot day and not really dwell on. I hadn't had this beer for years and I remembered it tasting better. I was inspired to try it again after seeing The HIgh Commander and his crew supposedly drinking it on a re-run of Third Rock From the Sun. That product placement sold at least one bottle of Pacifico.

Ah, the Superbowl has left me with a virtual bounty of guest-donated brews in the fridge. Here's one.

Appearance: Pours (from a rock-heavy bottle--what's up with that?) a surprisingly (for the style, anyway) deep, clear straw gold. Big fizzy head comes... and goes. Not too bad.

Smell: Weak sister. Maybe a bit of grassy, grainy... something. Not too impressed.

Taste: In a word, crappy. Grainy, metallic, skunky--just gross. Mouthfeel is almost as bad, thin and incredibly, unbearably fizzy; it's like seltzer water. Yuck.

Drinkability: Well, I guess it goes down easily enough, but since it's no better than even the cheapest domestic macro, I can't imagine why you'd bother with this stuff. Grab a cube of the High Life instead; half the price and twice as good.

I can't vouch for the history of this batch; someone brought it over, so it may be skunked. As it stands now, though, one of the worst I've had.

The beer pours a pale gold color with a lacey white head. The aroma is actually not bad. It has a bit of citrous/almost belgian like scent. The taste is good also. Yes, it is still another Mexican lager, but it has a nice flavor to it. There is a zing to it almost like someone squeezed some fresh lemon into it. The mouthfeel is fine. It is a low bodied beer with good carbonation. It drinks well and is really quite enjoyable. I'd like to be drinking this on a hot summers day.

Pale gold color. Head bubbles up quick, and leaves faster. After a couple seconds, there is no head left at all. Smells of grass and grain. Has a sweet corn taste that is very thin and watery. Not good at all. This just adds to the list and the image of Mexican beers as being sub-par.

Ok bought in the 12 oz brown long neck
Pretty lackluster looking brew indeed..urine yellow with a tiny fizzy head that dissapears..just like a soda.
Aroma is quite weak..chemical type smell..may be the hops though..
Taste is like what i imagine Corona tastes like when not totally skunked..light malts a hint of hops and a bunch of fizz.
Not great for me on the palate..way too carbonated.
Its drinkable if ice cold..its better than Corona..thats as good as this beer gets.

One of the few beers that makes Corona look like a premium brand. Hint of funky plastic in the aroma, and more in the taste. Harsh whallop of bitterness hits the tongue and hangs on with a one-dimensional tenacity that makes another mouthtfull a dreaded chore. Simply awful.

Well, My brother and I recently took a trip down to Cabo San Lucas and this was our staple. It was cheap and drinkable and I feel that I like this beer better than Corona, at least for it's drinkablilty. Pacifico, like the flagship of its parent company is best enjoyed with a wedge of lime, squeezed in and shot to the top. If you do not know what this means, go become a real beer drinker.

The aroma, citrusey, grainey, nothing real special, like a lot of lagers in the states.

Appearance, pale yellow, pilsner-like.

Very drinkable, down in cabo you can get a liter for about $2. And it all goes down easy, great for the pre party in Cabo because most of the big clubs charge $4-$5 a beer.

The taste, again, nothing too notable, a little citrus (without a lime), tastes like many American Beers but a little better.

Overall, if you are having a Fiesta on the weekend, serve this instead of Corona, Mexicans actually drink it and it is pretty good for the style. ( I am not a fan of light beers).

A couple of years ago, I went through about 3 cases of this stuff. Mostly for the bottles. Great bottles for homebrew. And it would be hard not to brew a beer better than this.

Golden Pilsner color with decent beading but no head and just a slight collar.

Adjunct in the nose. Almost all i can get.

taste and mouthfeel is water, metalics and slight malt.

Overcarbonated and not very good.

Very light gold color, medium white foamy head. Aroma is grassy and sweet. A light tasting lager, very light malts, prevalent lemony flavor, not very appealing. Mouthfeel is kind of thin. Finish is crisp. Aftertaste is lemony and neutral. Not a very good beer.

I'd have to say that this one tastes a lot like Miller Lite, but it has more of a mouth-drying effect. It pours a slightly cloudy yellow color with little head that dies quickly. The aroma is boring - mass produced style. The malts are slightly detectable in the flavor and the carbonation shows itself pretty well also. Still, it has the mass-product taste. The aftertaste was pretty dry. Not a favorite.

Ahh, Pacifico…. I would choose this beer over Corona every single time. And I dare say that I do enjoy this beer with a wedge of lime squeezed on in. I have had this beer plenty of times over the years in numerous Mexican restaurants and other places. As I drink, I am thinking about Cabo San Lucas and lobster dinners on the beach. Eating with your feet in the sand on a beautiful Mexican night, drinking Pacificos. Bright and clear fizzy yellow with a foamy white head. Slightly metallic in the aroma (I don’t remember that!) with some whiffs of grains and lemons. There’s a sweetness in the body and finishes harshly bitter and dry. If this beer was cheaper, I would probably buy more of it, but once and awhile is fine.

Appearance – Yellow body; actually kind of cloudy for a Mexican ale. There was also a small head which, of course, dissipated quickly.

Smell – Very grainy with a whiff of floral hops.

Taste – More grainy malt on the taste buds, with a little hop again to add minimal dimension. There’s a skunk in there dying to get out, but he thankfully stayed put for this offering.

Mouthfeel – This is where Pacifico jumps ahead of other Mexican beers. The carbonation is real, not the fake soda pop variety you find sometimes in other, less refined piss beers. It makes this one refreshing.

Drinkability – IMHO, just what a Mexican beer should be. Lots of water, a nice mouthfeel, and enough taste to pass for cervesa. I served this one up muy frio – half hour in the freezer – made sure I was hot and tired from lots of yard work, and guzzled it after the tasting drinks.

Presentation: 12oz. brown bottle with no "bottled on" or "best by" date; typically $5.99/6 pack.

Appearance: Like most mass-produced American lagers, pours a) crystal clear, b) a fairly brilliant gold, c) with a shortlived, snow-white head.

Aroma: Faintly malty; traces of cooked veggies.

Taste: Lightly sweet upfront with notes of corn, grain and a flavor I think of as "macro-skunk" running throughout; sallow hop-bitterness in the finish. Crisp with a light-to-medium mouthfeel.

Notes: Better than Corona? Who cares.

This beer poured a thin white head. The nose was just awful. The hue was golden and there was carbonation observed. The mouthfeel was weak and watery and lacked character. I was not overly impressed with this beer to say the least. It had a bitter taste to it as well an an aftertaste that lingered.

One of the neighbors had a fiesta party and to get into the spirit of the event, I brought along a 12 pack of this beer. This is a pale yellow beer with minimal lacing and a large initial head.

Not enough aroma to be overly interesting. Some faint hops, corn and a little bit of a lemon grass type smell.

Taste is adequate and no more. A real "average" beer if there ever was one. Good carbonation helps to keep the slightly sweet taste moving. Minimal hints of hops. Mouthfeel is thin but the drinkability is fairly high. Seems to go well with Mexican food and is far superior to the other beer at the party which surprise, surprise was Corona.

A very decent Mexican brew. This poured a typical straw colour and had a minimal head. Smelled of grain and slightly of hops. Served very cold, this beer is good...a definant step above Corona and quite drinkable with mexican dishes. This brew has a slight skunkyness to it though, but it does not come out too bad untill it warms up. A very drinkable mexican beer.

A supermarket grab and an alternative to Corona. Poured a honey color with a white fizzy head that died before I finished typing this sentence. Smell is nothing spectacular - grainy malt with a barely detectable hop aroma. The taste is not too bad - malt overtones, dry hop finish, slightly over-balanced on the side of the hops. Carbonation is very active in the mouth, and it really hits the tip and the back of the tongue. A very drinkable beer that should go quite well with burritos tonight.

This Mexican offering pours a pale yellow with a white-bubble head. The smell is of grains and a bit o' skunkiness. Nothing to write home about. Lacing is decent down the side of my glass, though.

The flavor is that of corn and a hint of malt/sweetness. There is very little body to this drink. The mouthfeel is thin and watery. The finish is dry. There is a faint flavor of hops. A weird grainy flavor barely lingers on after the beer has left the mouth.

Not a great beer, at best a rather ordinary one. Served ice cold, it probably is okay to chase down some spicy beans and rice with this lager.

12 oz bottle. Poured a typical straw yellow, with lots of fizz but little head retention. No visible lacing to be seen. Aroma is light, with a slight hint of malt. Taste is rather weak and bland. Watery mouthfeel, with not much flavor. Tastes like any other macro. Not worth trying again.

Pale golden yellow color with a thinish head of large bubbles and not much in the stanima department. No lace. Aroma has a bit of corn husk and a merging into hay-in-the-field hops, but this "argicultural" theme is very restrained. This bottle was not skunky. As much as the aroma and appearance are of little note, they are the most distinctive features of the beer. Sweet start, very little at the close, medium carbonation. Pretty close to tasteless, not offensive, but below many macros in impression.

pours out a clear and bright yellow golden colour. thin foamy head that dissipates quickly. a non-existant aroma...maybe a hint of corn and grassy hops. taste is virtually not there either. is this beer?? battles corona for most tasteless mexican brew. clean and smooth and with hardly a hint of any real aftertaste. might score a bit higher for drinkability for easy poundability without even realizing you might drinking beer. either that or it would make for a good tequila chaser or a cool liquid to wash down spicy mexican food. otherwise not much to write about. a pretty lame "beer".

Another Mexican beer produced by those Modelo folks (the Corona people). There's nothing exotic once you get inside the bottle as this is simply another fizzy yellow beer. You can save yourself a lot of money buying a American equivalent. I didn't mind paying what I paid because I wanted to review this, but there is no way I would shell out the money to make this my regular fall-back beer.

Pacifico Clara pours a rather nice golden color with lots of active carbonation (fizz bubbles were all over the place). A thin, soapy white head forms and I'd be generous in saying that it lasted 5 seconds. The smell is light and grainy with some slight malt and to a lesser extent some mustiness and corn. Mouthfeel is quite fizzy and watery. The flavor itself is quite unimpressive and watery as well. Some grainiess present, light malt, and some corn. Throw in some dry cardboard taste as well (somewhat reminds me of Rheingold's flavor to an extent). There is some grassiness and hay-like qualities too. The moderate-to-low hop bitterness adds a bit of a drying effect to the finish. The aftertate is nothing to write home about: almost nothing there save for some slight corn. And as expected, no alcoholic warmth as to be experienced either.

All in all, a very average beer. Better than Corona for sure, and the brown bottles were probably a life-saver for this beer (this stuff would probably be rancid if skunked). If served very cold, this could be very refreshing on a hot day. I didn't need any limes to cover up the flavor, so that must be a plus. There are a lot better beers out there that are less expensive as well.

Bueno Cinco deMayo! Ole! Tacos! This is one of the better Mexican "clone" lagers (they all taste alike). Clara (Clear). Flat pale gold in color with a very white head and thin veil of lace. Wet corncob, herbal malt and faint hop aroma. The light malt is fairly grainy and classically Mexican in body. The hops are bare distinguishable from the dry seltzery effervescence. Fairly balanced and dry. Did I say dry? Smooth even mouth feel with the essence of tequila. Not bad for a hot sunny day.

Pretty standard Mexican pale lager.
Pours a dark yellow, clear with a thin white head.
Smell is unremarkable, beery, but not bad.
It tastes better than you'd expect. I liked this one more than Corona, but not as much as Modelo Dark.
Good drinkable beer for Mexican / Tex-Mex parties.

This beer poured a pale orange/yellow. Slightly darker than your average american macro or other corono esque mexican brew, but still very light.
The full white head took it's time to die completly down. No where near some bottle conditioned beers, but it didn't just disapear like I'd expected.
The nose didn't offer much. Mostly some skunk flavors, your typical german influenced mexican pilsner.
The taste was average. Smooth, easy to drink mexican pilsner. Not a lot, if any malt flavors. This beer surprised me a bit with the amount of hops and bitterness I could detect. It almost tasted like it was dry hopped with a very very low alpha acid hop. But the hop charector was very mellow.

I have issues giving this beer a bad review. For the style, it's probably one of the best. I drank it out of a snifter and savored what there were of flavors. Which may not have been the best way to review this beer. Much like fine belgian beers that have their own dedicated glass and way of being drunk, this beer was meant to have a lime stuck in it and drunk straight out of the bottle. Preferably while chillin' on a beach in Mexico.
