Grupo Modelo S.A. de C.V.

Style: American Adjunct Lager

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Cerveza Pacífico Clara, better known as Pacífico, is a Mexican pilsner-style beer. It was first brewed in 1900 when three Germans opened a brewery, the Cerveceria del Pacífico in Mazatlán. Cerveza Pacifico is named so because the Pacifico brewery is located in the Pacific Ocean port city of Mazatlán, in the state of Sinaloa, México. Its label includes a picture depicting a lifesaver encompassing a hill with the port's lighthouse, known locally as "Cerro del Crestón." In Mazatlán, the beer is available in three different size bottles: "cuartitos" (6 fl. oz), "medias" (12 fl. oz.), and "ballenas" (32 fl. oz.). "Clara" means clear, as opposed to "obscura" (dark).

Picked this up tonight because it is one of the few Mexican beers available here that I haven't tried (next up is the Casta line which just reached Spec's in Houston). Appearance is standard adjuct yellow, not too watery, with almost no head. Smell is clean, no skunk because of the brown bottle, otherwise it's grainy. Taste is predictably grainy and middle-of-the-road. One-dimensional, but not really bad. This is better than it's American counterparts, but not worth $6.79 a sixer.

Pours a clear straw color, no head but just enough carbonation to make it seem like beer. After about 10 minutes, it sits still, and rather sad looking. I guess I'm supposed to drink it faster. Or in a bottle.

Smell - cer ve za. thin malt.

Taste could probably also summed with cer ve za, but I imagine that won't be long enough to be a review. Its simple, thin, and kind of malty. Nothing special.

It drinks well enough though, especially when food is involved.

Average gold looks with a substantial cream head. Nose is gots lots in it, thick floury wheat with citrus lime on the horizon. Taste, too, has body and some finesse. Thick creamed corn and wheat. Hint of lime. Mouthfeel is enjoyable, gentle carbonation. Above average drinkable brew.

Consumed in October 2004 in Cancun, Mexico from a bottle. I've had many of these before, so I figured I would have it again and actually write some notes on it. A pretty decnt beer! I'm even a little impressed. Pours an amber color with a small head and the slightest of lacing. Smells of sweet, maybe fruity or floral hops. Maybe a bit of corn or rice or something I can't really tell what the other scent is. The hops in this beer are pretty tasty. Good, in fact maybe a bit too mach carbonation. Not really watery at all. A very good beer while sitting on the beach or kicking back with a few fish tacos. Wish they had buckets of these on the beach instead of Corona.

I had this at a Mexican joint the other night and I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected.
It's a lot lighter than a typical beer that I'd enjoy, but it went great with the heavy, spicey fare it was paired with.
It's a pretty typical adjunct lager as far as color, nose and head are concerned. I noticed some slight hints of banana in the taste and, unlike Corona, it lacked any hints of skunkiness. I could, and did, drink a fistful of these without hesitation.
Nothing spectacular, but I'd definitely take it over Corona or any of the American macros any day.

This is an extraordinarily clear, golden brew with a small, white head. It’s effervescent, in a soda-water sort of way. Not much in the aroma department: Faint hops, mingled with a faint vegetable smell. Taste is grainy and only slightly sweet. Not much going on here. The body is light and almost watery. The beer is a disappointment, but the finish does have a nice, clean hoppiness. Overall…it’s unimpressive and not worth the effort.

Slightly better than Corona, but that is not saying much. Pours the standard golden pale yellow with the fizzle of a head. The smell is of grain and corn but this one has a nice citrus floral brush that pleases the nose. The taste is slightly fruity, grain is the strong note hear, bread? tones are tasted throughout. Medium bodied but pass and get something better, good summer 100 degree need water beer.

Pale, very clear, almost metallic body with a thin, big-bubbled white head that fades quickly and completely. The aroma is sweet and actually has a respectable bit of grassy hops. There’s a bit of cooked rice in the mix as well. The flavor is a tad sweet up front, but fairly dry in the finish with a bit of bitterness and something that’s almost salty. I don’t think I really like it all that much. Very watery.

better than expected, but still not that good. it's pretty much like mexican heineken. pours a crisp gold colour with a slight head that fades quickly. the smell is, well, the smell is pretty faint: a bit sweet/floral with some grain, perhaps. very basic. the taste here, again, remineded me a bit of heineken, but without the skunk. some grain and some sweetness like in the smell, but thats about it. sadly, for a mass produced lager this is one of the better tasting ones and it's far from great. far from good even. it is crisp and refreshing just the same. i'd only really ever try this again if at a mexican restaurant and they didn't carry or were out of negra modelo (far and away the best mexi-brew) or dos equis amber. this one is definitely better than a corona, but what isn't?

A very weak offering...a light pale yellow in colour, short head and minor lace with an exceptable ring.
Thin body.
Carbonation is the high point which is lively.
Aroma is mildly skunky.
Tasteless really, well balanced to prove.
When in Mexico, drink something else.

So... another adjunct lager by the folks who bring us Corona. Clear yellow-amber with a fair amount of visible carbonation that, nevertheless, can't sustain much of a head. The cap starts out small after a vigorous pour and falls quickly, but not instantly, to a mere film. Decent nose I guess; at least it doesn't smell sour or skunky. I might even appreciate a little lemon mixed in with the grain.

The flavor fails to reach the relatively low bar set by the nose. In fact, it doesn't really distinguish itself from the truly 'macro' American macro lagers that I've had. It tastes like mildly bitter grain with a dry finish, a thin mouthfeel and too much carbonation. That about sums it up.

Pacifico isn't as offensive as some AMLs, but that's hardly a recommendation. The only thing memorable about it is that it may be the cheapest single that I've ever purchased ($0.79). I can't decide if I got my money's worth or not.

Appearance: Pale yellow with a soda pop white head that dissapears quickly.

Smell: Very clean with a hint of hops. Not much else is avaliable in the aroma.

Taste: Pretty bland but refreshing. Slightly water with some malt and barley any hops.

Mouthfeel: Carbonation is too much. It distracts the tongue from any flavor that may be in there.

Decided to get a six-pack of Pacifico for Cinco de Mayo and have just finished them. Not a bad beer to have when doing something like a Cinco de Mayo gathering but not something I would normally get. The brew pours to a very pale yellow color with a very short lived white bubbly head that breaks down to hardly no lacing what so ever. The aroma is noting to write home about, grass and a sweetness that is ok. The taste is ok, reminds me of American macro’s but with some more character. A lot of nice carbonation, with a corn and light malt flavor. Not bad on a very hot day, would take this one before a Corona.

This thing pours the typical yellow fizz and sports a tiny little head. Aromas are none the appealing-adjuncty and disjointed this beer seems to plead for a slice a lime to lift it to greater heights, and hide its flaws. It's like the beer forgot to apply deodorant and now it's all in the raw and smelling ripe. The mouthfeel is soda like in texture, fizzy and very watery. Flavors are virtually non existant? An unnatural grainy, cloying, sweet nastiness remains on the finish reminding me to switch brands. This is the stuff that you get sick on in high school, and no wonder!

A thin clear yellow in appearance, a splash of white head that quickly fizzles out. Grainy metallic on the nose, a little skunky, with a phantom of citrus that I thought I was imagining at first (no lemon in the glass). More grain/corn for the flavour up front, becomes a bit sweeter on the finish, but no real complexities to take note of. The mouthfeel is thin and watery, a beer to throw back when it's scorching outside, but I didn't take much pleasure in sampling this. I'll pass next time.

Pours forth with a clean white head settling over clear pale yellow amply carbonated liquid. Nose is clean malt with a background corny adjunct and zip in the hop dept. The taste is sweet at first, then a carbonic palate burn, some delicate maltiness and the barest suggestion of hoppiness. Finishes semi-sweet and light. All in all a decent lawnmower brew, nothing more nothing less, senor.

Pours a clear dark yellow brew.

Smell is quite fruity like a hard apple cider. I can smell grain and a bit of malt in there too.

Taste is mild with a fruity and floral flavor to this. Mild grass and hops to this one too. A unique flavor.

Mouthfeel is maybe a bit over-carbonated.

A drinkable brew that some will not like.

This is my first review of a Mexican beer. It's been four or five years since I've had one, so I won't be able to compare this to a Corona, or any other Mexican. This one pours a clear, light, peach color, with a one finger, soapy, white head that lasts about twenty seconds. Not much to the aroma, maybe some faint lemon soda. Mouthfeel is all carbonation. Taste is lemony tart all the way through, with active carbonation. No off-tastes, but nothing to mention, in all honesty. I would use a dark beer, like Negro Modelo, to boil fresh Pacific or Gulf shrimp in, and enjoy this "Clara" to wash down the shrimp, while watching the sun set in the western sky from the veranda of an ancient, seaside villa.

this is some nasty stuff. very light, very clear. Mediciny nose. minimal malt, some grainy hop bitterness. Nasty off flavors, astrigent and harsh. This is an unpleasant product that I poured out after about 1/2 of the bottle. Life is too short to drink this p**s

Pacifico came in a brown bottle and was a light clear gold color with good carbonation. The head was unimpressive and was quickly gone. There was no lace. The smell was a little grainy (not skunky) with a trace of citrus. The taste was also grainy with some hop bite and a little sweetness. The finish was dry and grainy. Something to shoot down on hot day and not really dwell on. I hadn't had this beer for years and I remembered it tasting better. I was inspired to try it again after seeing The HIgh Commander and his crew supposedly drinking it on a re-run of Third Rock From the Sun. That product placement sold at least one bottle of Pacifico.

Ah, the Superbowl has left me with a virtual bounty of guest-donated brews in the fridge. Here's one.

Appearance: Pours (from a rock-heavy bottle--what's up with that?) a surprisingly (for the style, anyway) deep, clear straw gold. Big fizzy head comes... and goes. Not too bad.

Smell: Weak sister. Maybe a bit of grassy, grainy... something. Not too impressed.

Taste: In a word, crappy. Grainy, metallic, skunky--just gross. Mouthfeel is almost as bad, thin and incredibly, unbearably fizzy; it's like seltzer water. Yuck.

Drinkability: Well, I guess it goes down easily enough, but since it's no better than even the cheapest domestic macro, I can't imagine why you'd bother with this stuff. Grab a cube of the High Life instead; half the price and twice as good.

I can't vouch for the history of this batch; someone brought it over, so it may be skunked. As it stands now, though, one of the worst I've had.

The beer pours a pale gold color with a lacey white head. The aroma is actually not bad. It has a bit of citrous/almost belgian like scent. The taste is good also. Yes, it is still another Mexican lager, but it has a nice flavor to it. There is a zing to it almost like someone squeezed some fresh lemon into it. The mouthfeel is fine. It is a low bodied beer with good carbonation. It drinks well and is really quite enjoyable. I'd like to be drinking this on a hot summers day.

Pale gold color. Head bubbles up quick, and leaves faster. After a couple seconds, there is no head left at all. Smells of grass and grain. Has a sweet corn taste that is very thin and watery. Not good at all. This just adds to the list and the image of Mexican beers as being sub-par.

Ok bought in the 12 oz brown long neck
Pretty lackluster looking brew indeed..urine yellow with a tiny fizzy head that dissapears..just like a soda.
Aroma is quite weak..chemical type smell..may be the hops though..
Taste is like what i imagine Corona tastes like when not totally skunked..light malts a hint of hops and a bunch of fizz.
Not great for me on the palate..way too carbonated.
Its drinkable if ice cold..its better than Corona..thats as good as this beer gets.

One of the few beers that makes Corona look like a premium brand. Hint of funky plastic in the aroma, and more in the taste. Harsh whallop of bitterness hits the tongue and hangs on with a one-dimensional tenacity that makes another mouthtfull a dreaded chore. Simply awful.
