Ever since I'd seen this beer appear on shelves I was curious -- curious as to why it was priced so much higher than the other Mexican beers on the shelves. Marketing ploy? Well, a local finally put it (on sale) at a decent price, so I thought I'd find out if there's anything to this brew.

I like a good Negra Modelo now and again, so maybe this is a step up?

This six pack has brown, longneck bottles, unlike the BA picture.

A -- Pours a deep gold, near to orange-amber color, with a firm, off-white head that settles pretty quickly.

S -- Some vague DMS, even sulfur, and very faint breadiness. Pretty thin.

T -- Flavor is light, bready malts with some vague sourness in the finish. Any hops in the flavor are giving it a light, spicy bitterness in the aftertaste and that semi-sweet breadiness is there too. Not bad, nothing spectacular.

M -- Mouthfeel is soft to crisp with a light to light-medium body.

O -- Overall, not a bad drinker, but certainly not worth the premium price for which it's been selling. The above-mentioned Negra Modelo is easily as enjoyable and more economical. The sourness in the flavor starts to become more distracting after a couple, probably be hidden when paired with food.

Clean crisp and light. Not your typical light beer in that it's cleanliness taste is not muddled by sweetness.

12 ounce bottle

Pours light caramel, clear under a thin and vanishing off white head, that leaves no lacing.

Just a hint of malt on the nose.

Thin and on the watery side, with just some faint caramel, and sweet malt. Would be passable on a warm day or if I was actually in mexico eating some tacos with hot sauce. Besides that stay away.

The beer pours a yellow color with a white head. The aroma is grain and grass with not too much else going on. The flavor is more of the same. I get a lot of grain and grass, with some very sweet malt in there as well. Medium carbonation and medium mouthfeel. Extremely simple, but actually not too bad. Better than expected.

Dark gold to light brown in color with wonderful clarity. Just a trace of white head covers about a third of the top. Aroma is predominantly corn but there is also light malt. The taste is similar to Pacifico with corn being dominant. There's a coppery hop bitterness at the very back of the palate that is prevalent in the fade. The mouth is lightly carbonated. Another warm weather quaffer from Mexico.

Undated 12 oz bottle served in a lager glass. Pours with a deep medium amber body and a moderate size head that displays very good retention and leaves plenty of lacing on the glass.

Aroma: primarily Pilsner style hops, but with some faint baked bread

Flavor: mainly Pilsner style hops with some faint baked bread and mild+ bitterness. I can't agree with Modelo that this has "strong flavor", but it is flavorful and bold in the realm of mass-produced Mexican lagers.

Mouthfeel: Light body with very crisp carbonation and a dry finish.
