Negra ModeloNegra Modelo
Notes: Negra Modelo, better known as "the cream of the beer", is a Munich-type beer with 5.3º of alcohol that offers a balanced flavor and a delicate aroma of dark malt, caramel and hops.

Today it occupies the first place in sales among dark beers in Mexico. This beer is accompanied by a bright deep amber color, which is adorned with abundant, white and compact foam.

Negra Modelo was introduced in Mexico in 1925 as the dark beer called Modelo, to begin its great tradition. In 2014 it changed its image to a more sophisticated bottle but with the same content.

Ingredients - Water, barley malt, non-malted cereals, hops

12oz brown bottle. Stamped on bottle neck is 'C229C119'. Distinctive bottle shape and label.
Clean, ruby brown colored body. Slight off white head upon pouring. Left behind lacing likes to slide back down into the body.
Aroma of toasted malt, with a touch of fruit and chocolate.
Taste is toasted malt with an ending caramel note. Has a bit of pear apple flavor. Slight touch of chocolate.
Thin mouth feel. Good carbonation.
This beer has subtle aromas and flavors, but works well with spicier foods. Not a WOW beer but not much to complain about either.

24 oz can, date on can is undecipherable. Pours a brownish dark copper with a small khaki head. Nose is roasted malts, toffee, caramel, maybe hint of dark fruits and wheat toast. Taste is caramel malts, some dark fruits, and the roasted malts are not as prominent as the nose. Light to medium mouthfeel with a bit of bitterness on the finish. Good levels of carbonation. This is a better choice than their regular Modelo and other macro lagers. I would choose this over many AAL's. Don't think I will but again unless it's on sale like this can was. Paid about $1.79 for a 24 ouncer.

Not a bad beer but a bit subdued for the style. Served at a party, but have had it many times with Mexican food. Poured from a bottle into a tulip glass.

Could have used a bit more head. Weak smell, but some toasted malt smell and taste. Will order again, no doubt, at a Mexican restaurant.

This one sort of grew on me. After trying it a few times and not really liking it too much I really enjoyed it one day when I had it over lunch with some friends. This beer pairs pretty well with Mexican or pretty much most Latin food in general. It’s also pretty nice by itself. It’s a bit one note-ish but the one note is done well. The one note is a chocolatey malty note. One of the better Mexicans beers if not the best one.

Dark brown with Ruby tinge, topped with two fingers of beige head.

Smells of dark toasted malts, a hint of coffee, and that’s about it.

It tastes of dark toasted malts, and hints of toffee.

Very light body, with lots of carbonation.

I got this given to me from my friend from the Netherlands and I’m drinking it in Redding, June 10th 2019.

On tap at Rock n' Mexicana in Windham, NY.

This one pours a light caramel brown color, with a small head, and a lot of lacing.

This smells like lightly toasted malt, some sweet graininess, a touch of hops, and a slight fruitiness.

You could honestly do a lot worse than Negra Modelo. It's got an authentic maltiness to it, it's not too sweet, and it tastes very crisp and refreshing.

This is light bodied, a touch thin, with a great drinkability, and a higher level of carbonation.

This is honestly really not that bad. It pairs obviously quite well with Mexican food.

My Mexican restaurant standby - hits that easy drinking note and doesn't feel like crap big brewery lager. As a matter of fact and true to style it doesn’t taste at all like a Mexican beer with its dark caramel maltiness and relatively smooth mouthfeel.

Look is fairly dark, like a Schwartzbier. Smell is faint roasted malt and a little adjunct corn and maybe a little molasses. Taste is clean, a little burnt bread and a tiny bit of caramel. Slight tart finish but mostly dry. To me this is more like a schwartzbier than anything else. It’s heavier than your typical adjunct lager but not overwhelming by any means. As far as “Mexican” beers it’s for sure one of the better ones. Cheers.

Wonderfully clean, warm deep brown body with a fizzy caramel head that fades to nothing, quickly. Looks watery. Nose is raisin, caramel, bread crust. Belgianeqsue. Taste is similar, nice malty flavors of toasted bread, fig/raisin, caramel. It ends on a rather dirty note like iron or dirt, but it's mild. Body is prickly, very light, smooth, slightly syrupy. Super easy drinking.
Probably the most solid ultra-ubiquitous macro beer.

Has a handsome amber tint with a light welcoming foamy cap. Smells a bit butterscotchy metallic with traces of bitter hopy-maltiness. Taste confirms the hops and malt but with a very drinkable lightness for a darker beer. After a few of these the need to cram a tamale down my gullet becomes irresistible. No doubt it will do the same to you my fellow beerventurer!

Brown body and clear. Not much head from a draft pour.
Sweet, malty flavor and taste. A little on the light side and lacking richness.
Thin mouth feel, light-medium body.

Had this on 2019-02-20 in Grapevine, TX at Chipotle with dinner from the bottle.

Enjoyed this in context. A nice, malty Dunkle Lager that tastes more like a Vienna Lager to me. Would have it again.

Poured into a Pilsner glass. A clear chestnut brown color with a persistent but small light tan head. Aroma was faint caramel and dark bread. The taste was slightly sweet caramel mixed with a toasty bready malt, and balanced with a gentle floral hop bitterness. Feel was light, and clean on the finish. One of my favorite "macro" beers.

A dark brown pour with medium head. Very smooth tasting for a dark beer. Medium mouthfeel and smooth aftertaste. A pretty good overall brew. I would buy it again.

12 oz. bottle at home, 38 degrees. This beer pours very nicely with a moderate head of foam. It's rich, dark color is very inviting. The beer goes down very smooth with moderate malt flavor. Much better as it warmed towards 60 degrees. Not too heavy, hits the spot when a dark beer mood strikes.

A dark beer that has a light aroma of malt. Taste is light malt, a touch of sweetness and very smooth. Super easy drinking. Overall I like this particular one as it often used in Mexican drink recipes that are awesome, like a Chelada, I learned from a local Mexican Restaurant. Visit Michelito's in Hurst, Tx. Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a Pilsner glass.

Always good with enchiladas, though my Mexican beer of choice still tends to be Pacifico. Negra Model is usually quite tasty, but it's just too filling for me to pair with Mexican food (which is usually too heavy for me any way - all of the cheese!).

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Clear medium brown pour with 1.5 fingers of fizzy white head. Modest lacing.

S: Sweet grains/malts. Lightly toasty... minimal herbal hops.

T/F: Sweet toasted malts and grains. Hopping for balance only... light fruit and faint coffee. Mostly sweet toasted grains. Light bodied... well carbonated.

O: A pretty average mass produced beer. Way better than Corona (I know, damning with faint praise)... at least it's got some flavor and it's not unpleasant.

I'm a big fan of the especial but this wasn't what I was hoping for. It's really not a bad beer but I find it a little too malty and a little bit on the bitter side.

This for sure maintains a different alternative to the roasted malt profile, this one is brewed more so like a dark ale/lager rather than a stout. The roasted notes definitely come out in this one. This one stays refreshing without being too chalky.

Nice rich dark lager. I haven't tried any other dunkel at this beer's price range but I can say that modelo negra doesn't disappoint as compared with stout ales like guinness. This beer holds its own within beers made from roasted malt. Bty, I know its a lager. The smell is not smoky, not is it very complex. The aroma is simply very toasty with a hint of dried fruits. As far as taste, roasted tangy malt character with subtle hints of dried fig or plum. The hops are present and vert piney to round it out at the end. This beer does not remind me of chocolate or coffee. The feel of this beer is medium with some silkiness, very drinkable. This Dark lager seems to be decedent and luxuriously smooth. It quickly builds on the pallet and becomes ultra rich. I can't drink more than one. I think this beer is a great beer to have once in a while due to its richness. Please give it a try!

12 Oz Bottle poured into glass
Look - filtered dark amber, inch of foam slow to fade and minimal lacing on glass
Smell - Aroma is mainly caramel malt. Also pick up the rice and yeast just a bit. Very slight coffee aroma.
Taste - Very sweet. Dark roasted malts. Some very faint notes of coffee, toffee, grass. Some creaminess. Not a complex beer but very tasty. Don't like to make this comparison but it does have some similarities to Guinness. Only moderately carbonated.

Overall, i was impressed because i wasn't expecting a bold beer. Yet is does have a rich flavor, some bold nutty characteristics and a nice roasted flavor. Not the best dark beer but very good. I will buy again.
I give this an A-

I have enjoyed this one because it's always tasted good. By itself, from the bottle; poured into a beer glass of any shape; with mexican food; without mexican food; et cetera, beer-wise, sabroso.

My go to Mexican lager. There's nothing knocking your socks. Malty caramel notes up front with a nutty and bitter dark chocolate after taste. Good carbonation.

Pours a dark color (almost looks like a Coca-Cola in the glass).  Has nice creamy white head. The slow brewed caramel malts give it a slightly sweet nose and silky smooth mouth feel.  Grupo Modelo uses common Galena and Super Galena hops, which gives Negra Modelo an excellent balance with the sweetness of the malts and the bitterness hops. Not
A nice feature is that it stays consistent start to finish. Some beers actually become more bitter as they warm up, not this one. Very solid Mexican Lager. While it is not a comparable style to Corona and Carta Blanca; I would definitely pick Negra Modelo over those two when given a choice.
