Hurray I found a beer in Mexico that isn't terrible, and actually enjoy! There is some dark malt flavors, caramel notes. This add a little sweetness and is enjoyable.

The name might get you some looks...it ain't racist, yo...and it gets very little marketing...but this drank es Padrisimo! Don't drink the corona extras and puta madre cervezas...this and dos equis ambar are what you need. One time, Anahi, Belinda, AND Maria Elisa Camargo were all over deez nutz when I drank this. Buy it...today.

Immediately this beer pours into the glass well without much head. It has a very dark color but not quite the Black as its name claims. A much more amber color. It doesn't have a whole heck of a lot in the fragrance department but I am noticing something. Tastes pretty good. Exactly like a Vienna style should. I want all to know that among the Mexican beers this is probably the best Mexico offers in m humble opinion.

Negra Modelo, 5.4% ABV, 24 IBU, style is Vienna Lager. Pours thin and brown, two fingers of white foam, moderate lacing. Nose is sweet and "fresh". Taste is - not much - a non-offensive lager, with no bitterness, but a bit of a burnt aftertaste. Mouthfeel is decent, and an overall OK lager. I'd take this over most macro lagers. Better than Corona.

Now, this is my first review so bear with me until I get the hang of this. I was very pleasantly surprised with this one. We have an awesome Mexican restaurant in our town, and of course being a beer lover, I wanted a beer with my meal. I asked the server if they had any darker beers, and he suggested this one. It had a decent look to it, not the best I've ever seen but pretty respectable. It had a nice medium brown color, I guess kind of amber. It was a bit fizzy but not too much. I don't like a lot of fizz, but to each their own for those who do. The taste was great! Not too hoppy, which is good for me, and it had a good caramel taste that I thought was present. Taste-wise, I am sure there are much bolder flavored beers out there, but this one doesn't lack flavor and is all in all very good. Not what you'd call a heavier beer, but it has some substance to it. It is worth a try and I personally found I really enjoy it.

Hey look, it’s one of those beers I’ve had often but never reviewed: Negra Modelo. Generally because it’s not a Lager in the vein of Corona like almost every other Mexican beer, ever... Negra Modelo is one of my go-to Mexican restuarant beers (at least until craft beer takes off in Mexico, which we are starting to see with brews like Red Pig). Anyway, it is what it is, and I for one think Mexico benefits greatly by knowing how to brew and export a beer style other than Adjunct Lagers - here’s looking at you Grupo Modelo S.A. de C.V. (huh, same brewery as Corona, there you go).

Poured from a 355ml bottle into a stein.

A: Deep clear caramel brown body with a thin half centimetre beige head that soon fizzles out like a damp squib. Not the most attractive beer ever nor does it look like a train wreck either, a middle ground here. 6/10.

S: Aroma has a real cola-esque fragrance to it - look you’re not fooling anyone Grupo Modelo: This is a glass of Corona with Coca-Cola syrup added to it isn’t it? Seriously though there isn’t much to this brew in way of aromas - a coke/sugar like sheen with some light caramel malt and naught else I’m afraid. 6/10.

T: Flavour is on the lighter side, with Negra Modelo just slightly unable to shake the feeling of being an alcoholic soda drink (again Coke comes to mind). Hints of caramel and a slight herbal note towards the back. Finishes crisp and dry with a mild bitterness. Aftertaste takes on a toasty caramel character. Refreshing beer? No doubts here. 7/10.

M: Mid to light, slight watery bodied, with an affably (for a Mexican brew) dense carbonation - it’s a bit fuller in texture than other common Mexican beers. 8/10.

D: Apart from being a little bit pedestrian this is one of the better, and let’s be honest the competition isn’t grand, Mexican beers on the market atm. However setting this aside how does it stack up against other Vienna Lagers out there? Considering my limited experience with the style [having reviewed only 3 others]: Better than Dos Equis but worse than Sam Adams. Other than that it is still my go to in the Mexican restaurant purely for being the lessor of shites, not a thing to be proud of: But a thing nonetheless. 6/10.

Food match: Considering I’ve only ever had this with Mexican food I’m going to take a stab in the dark and say: Indian. Ha, gotcha!

My drink of choice at the Mexican restaurant, Drinks light and easy so I can have that extra enchilada, and has a slight roasted barley flavor that I just seem to like.

12 oz bottle poured into a Sam Adams perfect pint glass.

L - rich Amber brown with an inch off of white head that dissipates quickly.

S- toasted bread and caramel maltiness

T- not great. Not horrible. Pretty well balanced BU to GU ratio, possibly leaning towards the sweet side.

F- medium bodied. Slick

O- this is usually my go to at Mexican restaurants. its an enjoyable beer that you won't tire of, but not one that you would seek out. The nose outshines the taste, IMO, but definitely not a bad beer.

12 Fl oz Bottle from 6 pack - $8.95

This is one of the best Mexican origin beer's I have in my local area - victoria's isn't too far behind.

Upfront this beer pours a dark rich amber with 1 inch head and retainable lacing throughout the drink. Smells mainly of its complex malt and has a bit of sweet notes. First taste there is a bit of alcohol, rich malt, slightly crisp hops on the back end, followed by a retainable sweetness and hop aftertaste. Light carbonation, but could be 'heavy' to the non craft drinker - a great transitional beer if you're starting to try craft styles.

A very good rendition of a German alt based on roastiness and color, but then again more like a Vienna lager due to its sweetness and dryness. Overall, a pleasant Mexican lager that is quite different from the expected yellow bubbly status quo. Cheers!

Negra Modelo Brewed by Creveceria Modelo Nava Mexico, Grupo Modelo S.A. de C.V. Now Negra Modelo is an Vienna Lager with an ABV of 5.70% This brew pours out a nice brown color with a nice small off white head. This brew has the look of root beer. Now I’m not saying that is a bad thing. The smell of Negra Modelo rich with roasted grains, malts , and hops. There is also a nice sweetness to the smell of this brew. The smell of this brew is really inviting. Now for the taste, it is bold with flavors. You pick up on a smooth sweetness of roasted grains and malts. There is a lot going on in Negra Modelo. Negra Modelo has a real nice balance to it, there is nothing overpowering about this brew. You really can’t pick up on the 5.70% Abv in this brew it is just that smooth. The mouthfeel of Negra Modelo is rich, bold, clean, smooth and refreshing . Overall I’m giving Negra Modelo a 4.50 out of 5. I would buy this brew again. Creveceria Modelo Nava Mexico, did a nice job with this one.

Negra Modelo | Grupo Modelo S.A. de C.V. Poured from the bottle into pint glass, this beer's head is two fingers thick and off white, with lateral lacing, and a clear dark oak brown body.

Smells like full bodied, earthy grains with a hint of caramelized malts.

I taste a clean, easy-going blend of the same elements, with the pleasing inclusion of a mid-palate bitterness to fully balance this well-made brew.

The mouthfeel here is medium-light with mild carbonation. Smooth and clean.

Overall, I'll rate Negra Modelo | Grupo Modelo S.A. de C.V. with a 4.25. Definitely one of the more complex non-craft(but definitely not an AAL) Mexican beers widely avalible.

I thought this beer was pretty good! Definitely one of the better options regularly available at Mexican restaurants. With a lime wedge squeezed and dropped into it, the tastesl of lime and malt commingle brilliantly.

Being a European, Mexican beers were "corona' or ''dos equis'' what a surprise to try this delight. It's a stereotype that warmer climate have bad or poor beer, I loved it and if ever in Cancun or Cabo will happily order or buy this one, cheers!

The bottle is so classic, that I actually saved about 70 for home brewing. But getting back to the beer itself, this has got to be one of the most drinkable and best "gut feels" of any beer . . anywhere. Simply a "go to" beer when you can't decide exactly what you want. You can't go wrong with this on . . and you should drink it right out of the bottle, because you never have to worry about that bottle tipping over. A beautiful thing.

SLast sampled back on 3/3/16 but had this several times in the past, both on tap and in a bottle. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured into a "CORONA" pint glass.

Aroma is of caramel malts and hint of brown sugar. Taste follows the nose. Goes down very easy. Always very pleased with this brew and probably my most favorite of the Mexican beers.

Had one of these with Chipotle for lunch. Nothing at all wrong with it, just very bland overall. I almost always go with XX when doing anything Mexican and this isn't XX but still better than Corona.

Pours a nice nutty brown shade. Average head retention and lace. The aroma is mostly lager, yeasty with hints of caramel. Flavors pretty much the same here, nutty, caramel, and bready lager. My favorite Mexican beer, and extra kudos that its a Vienna Lager, but then again... i don't prefer Mexican beer unless i'm devouring a Taco, Burrito, or any other vessel for those classic ingredients paired south of the border.

Great, easy drinking Vienna lager. Smell and taste is roasted sweet malts, sweet brown bread, caramel, maybe a bit of chocolate nuttiness. Finishes off with with just a hint of hoppy bitterness and pepper

One of my favorites. Decent Vienna lager. Consumed at Hacienda Mexican restaurant in St. Louis. You don't need a lime for this one as it is quite flavorful. Was somewhat sweet. Carbonation was perfect for this beer.

When I saw this Amber beer from Mexico at the shelf I just HAD to try it!

I've been warned from beerfriends but I want to get my own opinion about this beer.

The beer is clear, deep brown, copper colored with a one finger high, beige, head that leaves no lacing on the glass.

Nose: Not much here... Some carmel malt, fudge, bread, brown sugar, syrup, butter and grass.
Taste: Lager-like... Some sweetness, caramel, brown sugar, dried fruit, a bit of chocolate and malt.
Mouth: Light mouthfeel and carbonation. Easy drinking. Some sweetness. Oily texture.

Not that bad really! Nothing to write home about but still...

It was the best draft option at a local Mexican food restaurant. It was served with a lime twist, which is a bit strange if you view this as a dunkel. Tastes OK, somewhat bland.

Poured from the bottle a rich, deep brown with a modest tan head that faded fairly fast and left a bit of spotty lacing.
Aroma is mostly caramel with a hint of bread and roastiness.
Taste is initially sweet with caramel and bread notes but there is a satisfying bitter bite backing it up.
Mouthfeel is light to medium with a fair amount of carbonation.
Overall, tasty and refreshing and a great combo with Amer/Mex food.

Poured from a bottle at a Mexican restaurant. Came with a slice of lime but I wanted nothing to do with that and squeezed it in my glass of water instead. Has a brownish, woody, caramel color. Smells sweet, caramelly and lagery. Tastes sweet and malty, with a bit of bitterness to even it out. Feels fairly light and refreshing, perfect to compliment spicy Mexican cuisine. Overall this is my favorite Mexican beer I've had so far. If I'm at a Mexican restaurant and any friends plan on ordering a Corona or something, I'll recommend they give this a try instead.

Darkest brown, caramel, brown bready-ness, a hop bitterness to balance any sweetness. I've enjoyed this in the past with Mexican food, and it pairs well at dessert with flan.
