Negra Modelo | Grupo Modelo S.A. de C.V. Poured from the bottle into pint glass, this beer's head is two fingers thick and off white, with lateral lacing, and a clear dark oak brown body.

Smells like full bodied, earthy grains with a hint of caramelized malts.

I taste a clean, easy-going blend of the same elements, with the pleasing inclusion of a mid-palate bitterness to fully balance this well-made brew.

The mouthfeel here is medium-light with mild carbonation. Smooth and clean.

Overall, I'll rate Negra Modelo | Grupo Modelo S.A. de C.V. with a 4.25. Definitely one of the more complex non-craft(but definitely not an AAL) Mexican beers widely avalible.

Much better than I expected and better than regular Modelo, this beer pours dark (duh ... given the name). It's a black-ish red with a tiny head and minimal latticework. The smell is virtually non-existent with the alcohol ringing through. The taste, happily, is better than the smell. It has the taste of a richer, more flavorful lager, and it is also more rich and textured. I liked this beer, but I probably won't buy it.

A: pours clear brown with a thin finger of off white head which thins to a light layer.
S: light caramel and burnt sugar, maybe a touch of molasses. hop a lightly pine
T: an almost carbon copy of the smell only with a bit more of and earthy than pine hop.
M: light and watery, but not bad watery. medium carbonation
D: this would be great with some spicy mexican food, but is drinkable on its own.

It's my favorite of the Mexican mainstream beers.

Deep amber body with a finger of bubbly head.

Caramel malt, grain husk and a little corn syrup on the nose. Decent roasted notes creep in on the finish.

Really strong caramel flavor with a solid, light-roasted finishing bitterness.

Smooth, full body with the right amount of carbonation. By far the best of the Mexican beers and a damn fine example of a Vienna lager. An easy choice when amongst limited selection.

I didn't know what to expect with this beer and frankly kept my expectations low - boy was I surprised.

The brew pours out a very nice dark-caramel color, not black like the name of the beer would lead you to believe. The head was thin, but strangely, the lacing was noticeable all the way down the bottle - I've never seen anything like it. The smell was the normal hops and barley, but the odor was just slight - just the right amount in my opinion. Mouthfeel was surprising, the dark liquid was thick and felt velvety. The taste is what I walked away with impressed - full and rich - certainly not what I was expecting, but glad I did. Overall, a solid beer (in too small a bottle) I will be glad to partake of again.

Negra Modelo has become a tradition for my Dad and I at El Chapparal in Helotes,TX. We meet there every few weeks for a meal.
The beer pours out a nice brown with a little amber tint. There is a 1/2" head that quickly dissipates. No real lacing.
The aroma is of slight sweetness and just a touch of a roasted smell.
The flavor is slight roasted malt, a little chocolate, and sweetness in the end. There are no hops evident to me here. The flavor comes and goes quickly.
Although there is not a lot going on here for some reason this is my favorite out of all the Mexican beers. I could drink this all night and enjoy every one. It washes down the chips and salsa, the fajitas, the enchiladas and anything else you want to put in front of us. A definite session beer for these two Texans.

Had dinner at a Mexican resturant with damn good food, and the average fun of mass produced Mexican brews.

12 ounce bottle poured into a meg.

A - A nice deep brown color. Head was about a finger but had no staying power whatsoever.

S - A nice sweet smell. Fairly subdued but a bit of caramel malt.

T - Not bad at all. Missing a bit of the mark for a Vienna Lager but had a nice caramelly flavor that I'd associate with a good Schwarzbier. Nice and smooth.

M - Fairly thin medium body.

D - Pretty nice. Goes good with Mexican, especially if you're looking for a bit of sweetness to smooth out and complement a spicy dish.
