Shake A DayShake A Day
Notes: In Montana, we have a pastime bar game called Shake-A-Day. Each day at your favorite watering hole, you get one opportunity to throw fifty cents into a pot with hopes of rolling five of a kind and winning a pocket full of cash! This favorable risk to reward is our inspiration for brewing this aggressive, American style IPA. Brewed with pacific NW and Australian hop varieties, bright aromas and resinous pine dominate the palate. The clean, well-attenuated finish has enough body to leave you wanting another roll of the dice.

Hazy golden color. Thick white head, poured from an aluminum can. This brew is a hoppy, fruity, serious IPA. Medium body, slightly dry, fruity, and flavorful. Not bad.

Clear golden/copper in the glass. Tropical, grapefruit, with a hint of plum, apricot and peach. Sort of a typical West Coast IPA except that malty peach finish which sets it apart.

12oz can poured into 14oz teku. Poured a clean, clear light-to-medium gold color with 1/3 inch of just off-white head that had low retention and no lacing.

The aromatic features were low malt and musty hops.

Same on the tongue, with the addition of some brighter citrus hops.

The body was typical, maybe a bit lighter than medium.

Drinkability was fine, I took a sixer to a cookout and we had no troubles killing it off.

Overall, a nice, but not particularly outstanding brew. probably worth a shot if you see it.

I think this may have been the worst beer I’ve ever tried. Smells ester-y and tasted like rotten bathtub beer. Did I get a bad sixer? Even made my buddy try it and he took two drinks and dumped it out. Now I have 4 left that I guess I’ll use for target practice. This garbage was not cheap either! What a waste.

Did I just get a bad 6 pack? I'm reading the other reviews and I like BSBrewing . Here is my review: This Amber ale is Amazing! Trouble is I purchased an IPA. Amber ale is by far my least liked beer. I'd rather drink Lucky. This 'IPA' was way too malty or Ambery , not Hoppy. Very upset that I bought this. Now I have 5 or 6 of these nasty things sitting in my fridge for unsuspecting friends. I just don't understand how this is an IPA. It's terrible for an IPA.

Poured from 12 oz. can into pint glass - couldn't fit the whole can into at once, more than 2" foam frothed over the sides. Fairly quick dissipation, got distracted watching the Washington State - USC football game tonight and lost track of time, so I'll guess less than 5 minutes to rim-only lace. Probably less than three. Just a bit of haze.

Close your eyes and imagine baking a bunch of shaved grapefruit rinds into a loaf of white bread, but under cooking it, then soaking the squishy, yet-to-rise bread in cool water a few minutes, then smell it - a musty, rindy bready smell. That's what I get here. I'm not encouraged by the smell, though it's not horrible.

There is a strong grapefruit taste - stronger than the smell. The breadiness is there, but faint. It is amazing how long the crisp, bitterness in the aftertaste lingers - several minutes for sure. I did not expect this based on the smell.

The feel of spiciness lasts with the aftertaste, though there is no spicy taste. This is an unusual combination for beers I've had.

Overall a decent IPA, though others are better.

6/2018...on tap in Missoula. Clear gold, borders on copper with a ruing of white foam. Peppery malt nose. Juicy citrus forward taste. Grapefruits. Rind flavors. Lengthy bitter mouthfeel, sharp taste. Real good.

Picked this up while stopping through Cheyenne, Wyoming at Town and Country Liquors. Earthy and herbal hop note in the nose, with a little bit of funk as it warms. Balanced and featuring up front bread and spiced hop notes. Never too bitter, this finishes with juicy hops and broad, dry pine flavor and a stiff, agreeable texture. Not outstanding, but this Montana brewed offering is tasty and somewhat distinct

I tried this at North Side Sports Bar in Glenn Ellyn, IL. It poured a clear golden with white head that is leaving a nice ring lace. The scent had bitter hops. The taste was bitter leaning with grapefruit finish. The mouthfeel is fuller in body with good carbonation . Overall it's a solid beer.

Bought a six pack for 4 bucks(!). A not overbearing bite with a medium head that was an easygoing introduction to a pineapple tart none too sweet IPA. The alcohol content is on the high side so be prepared to kick back.

12oz can, date stamped 24317. Golden colored body with mild haze and a frothy ivory head that leaves a spattering of lacing at the top of the glass. Juicy hop aroma with tropical mango, orange, and grapefruit and a bit of pine along with a light caramel & grain maltiness. Flavors are a nice blend of hop & malt with notes of piney mango, orange, grapefruit, light caramel, and pale malt. Medium mouth-feel while being resinous and finishing bitter with pine lingering. Overall, really solid IPA. I'd get this again.

Picked up a 6 pack of these at Total Wine, $9/6 pack, easy to take a chance at that price point. Pours a light yellow and gon color with good clarity and a soft 1/3" white head. Aroma seemed to get some Simcoe across, bitter and pine all the way in the paint and then a touch of Galazy for good varied measure.

Taste is a relatively light bodied, 65ish ibu ipa. Usual light and dry pale toasted malts. Has a sharp bitterness that doesn't hit the usual grapefruit strides, this one seems to lean Simcoe like pine dryness. Mouth feel has a grip load of carbonation going for it. You get that mix of old (Cascade) and new-ish (Simcoe) familiar bitterness. Then they drop a layer of Galaxy in there to get a slight variance on that bitterness bringing with it the slightest feel of pineapple in the mouth feel on the way out.

Poured into a shaker pint.

The beer is a cloudy yellowed cinnamon color under a white head that leaves a wisp, thin collar, and only a few horizontal lines of lacing.

The beer smells woody and spicy with hints of malty caramel.

The taste is thick with wood, hop spiciness, and caramel malt. Hidden subtle peach fruitiness. Slightly citric finish.

Mouthfeel is medium to thick, slightly hot finish.

Overall, this was not fresh but it tastes just fine in the dead of winter. Large malt bill for sure.

12 ounce can poured into a tulip

A: Pours a golden orange with a bright white full creamy head, nice stream of bubbles up the side, nice retention.

A: Lots of piney and resin notes, grapefruit peel, notes of malts, slight alcohol on the nose.

T: Subtle notes of pine, citrus peel, and needles, slight bready malts on the backend, pretty straightforward.

M: Medium bodied with a very dry finish.

O: Great look, good aroma but not much else on the taste, a fairly simple IPA that hits the classic notes but doesn't stand out compared to other IPAs I've tasted.

Tropical aromas with a delicious citrusy hop bite. Medium bodied and medium bitterness. Everything works together here in very subtle overtones. Citrus peel flavors hold on through the aftertaste with mild sweetness.

Pours a hazy golden color. Reminds me of a wheat ale. Light malt with pine aroma, very faint. Taste is of fig and pine with the hint of wintergreen after taste. Very light tasting for an IPA.

= This IPA does nothing for me to stand out from others but it does go down well.

Pours a clear gold color. 1/3 inch head of a white color. Good retention and good lacing. Smells of piney hops, strong resin, sweet malt, slight alcohol, hint of spicy hops, and a hint of citrus hops. Fits the style of an American IPA. Mouth feel is sharp and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of piney hops, strong resin, sweet malt, slight alcohol, hint of spicy hops, and a hint of citrus hops. Overall, good appearance, aroma, body, and blend, but lacking in complexity.

Dark golden color with a slight haze. A finger of head forms and moderate amount of sticky lacing is left down the glass. Aroma of citrus, tropical fruit, and mild dankness. Flavor of bitter grapefruit pith, tropical fruit, and bready malt. On the dry side and the bitterness is not brutal. Medium body and nicely carbonated lends the beer a nice smooth texture. A nice IPA that I would not mind drinking again.

Primo Montana IPA. On tap at Papa Rays in Helena multiple times. Ditto on all the positives from previous reviews. Montana IPA'S are a study unto themselves. I recommend getting a pass thing from their brewers association. Take a road trip one free at each brewery, camp and explore. This one ranks pretty high. Was sad when it was gone for the season.

Shake A Day pours gold with a slight haze with rapidly rising bubbles under a 1" persistent and lacy off-white foam collar. Prying off the cap releases melon, citrus and bread crumb aromas observable fom 2 feet away. Moderately high light fruit, bread crumb and citrus flavors lead the palate giving way to a mild, lingering quinine like bitter finish. There are some light mint and hop driven herbaceous notes on the palate. The malt flavors are medium and the hop flavors and bitterness are medium to medium high. The creamy body is medium to medium low and the carbonation is medium high. Shake A Day is a very refreshing, flavorful and easy to drink American IPA.

Picked up a single from TW Arrowhead in early May for $1.79. Bottled on 2/16/2016 but stored in the beer fridge since purchase.

Nose was pungent with tropical hops. 4.0
Taste was a bit flat but tropical hops managed to shine thru. 4.0
Due to lack of carbonation the feel was not there. 2.0
