Moose Drool Brown AleMoose Drool Brown Ale

Brewed by:
Big Sky Brewing Company
Montana, United States

Style: American Brown Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.10%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
It's chocolate brown in color with a creamy texture. A malty beer with just enough hop presence to keep it from being too sweet. The aroma mostly comes from the malt with a hint of spice added by the hops. Moose Drool is brewed with pale, caramel, chocolate, and whole black malts; and Kent Goldings, Liberty, and Willamette hops.

Pours a dark brown color, with amber hues in the light. A large 3 finger head forms from an aggressive pour. There is some very nice head retention, as well as a touch of soft lacing.

The aroma is quite nice. As soon as I cracked the can I could smell raw grain, and once I put my nose to the glass it progressed into a very sweet caramel aroma. Very pleasant.

the taste is also nice. It's simple, some raw grain characteristic, caramel, and biscuit.

The mouthfeel is a bit thin and seemingly watery. There is a low level of carbonation as well.

Drinkability is fairly high. The flavor profile is pleasing and the beer is quite sessionable. I think I like it best on draft though.

12oz bottle courtesy of beerbill poured into a pint glass.

Pours dark brown in the glass that shows deep copper when held up to light. The head is small and tan and doesn't leave much in the way of lacing.

The aroma is pretty good with tons of sweetness from the caramel malts and chocolate. Maybe some molasses as well as a hint of nuts.

The doesn't quite live up to the aroma and is really just a more watered down version of the smell. It has a bit of chocolate and molasses sweetness up front with some malts int he middle and a dry cocoa-like finish.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied for the style and smooth with moderate carbonation.

This one looks and smells great but the taste and mouthfeel are probably a tad less impressive. Still, a decent brown ale.
