Moose Drool Brown AleMoose Drool Brown Ale

Brewed by:
Big Sky Brewing Company
Montana, United States

Style: American Brown Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.10%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
It's chocolate brown in color with a creamy texture. A malty beer with just enough hop presence to keep it from being too sweet. The aroma mostly comes from the malt with a hint of spice added by the hops. Moose Drool is brewed with pale, caramel, chocolate, and whole black malts; and Kent Goldings, Liberty, and Willamette hops.

A: pours a deep brown with slight hints of ruby red, minimal head formation (actually more of a thin film than anything else). given a couple of swirls of the glass a cream colored film reappears.

S: caramel, nuts, slight roasted malt are in pretty nice balance with one another, but I'm not picking up much of anything else

T: caramel, nuts, again a slight roasted malt, slight touch of spices

M: very light, almost watery

O: its a nice drinkable brew to say the least. i thoroughly enjoy brews with more complexity but overall this one is acceptable.

I've had this in both bottle, and can. I think I prefer can, as there is not much better than throwing these back out of a can, all day on the river. This, however, is a bottle review, as I cannot seem to recall much from my can/river experience.

A: Chocolate brown, like a labrador. Nice creamy off white head that lasts. Lower carbonation. Seemingly opaque.

S: Chocolate, booze.

T: Chocolate, booze. I like the chocolate notes, but the booziness is a bit overpowering. It does leave me nice and warm, so that's not in all a bad thing. It's strange that the alcohol is so overpowering to me in this, since the ABV is only at 5%. I didn't notice this when drinking from the can.

M: Creamy, low carbonation, smooth and slick.

O: I love this beer, not only for its flavor and overall characteristics, but also for the memories it conjures. I prefer it from the can, and out in the middle of nowhere, as opposed to in from a bottle on a random Saturday night. I saw someone compare it to Newcastle, but, in my opinion, they aren't even close. This would make a great dessert beer.

I poured a bottle into pint glass.

Appearance- Clear dark brown with a fingers worth of quickly disappearing head. Very light amount of lacing.

Smell- Nutty aroma with a hint of chocolate and caramel.

Taste- Big nutty flavor with notes of chocolate and roasted malt. Just the faintest hint of hop bitterness at the finish.

Mouthfeel- Medium bodied with an average amount of carbonation. Smooth and slightly creamy.

Overall- Pretty good beer. Not the best but definitely worth trying.
