Probably the worst coffee beer I have ever had. Compares nothing to East End's Coffee Porter, Lavery's Ulster Breakfast Stout, Founder's Breakfast Stout, Sierra Nevada's Coffee Stout, or Church's Nicholas Coffee Stout. Also has too much creme brulee flavor. They may want to think of making this a creme brulee stout instead of a coffee stout as the creme brulee flavor way overwhelms the coffee flavor in this one. Needs more coffee flavor. Probably won't be revisiting this one.

A: [3.00] Dark brown to black brew with 1 finger of khaki head. The ber has red tinges on the sides when held up to the light. The head disappears almost completely with no little islands and lacing. It is a little off putting. The bottle lists the ABV (7.2%) there is a date (11/1/15)

S: [2.00] Coffee and something less pleasant.

T: [2.25] Cinnamon, coffee and coca-cola.

M: [2.00] The beer is flat and is way under carbonated (it hissed when I popped it open).

O: [2.00] This is not enjoyable in any of the phases. The nose is a huge turn off. The lack of carbonation is disturbing. The flavor is like flat Coke mixed with old coffee and beet juice. Fail.

"three different varietals of coffee and crème brûlée" I dislike over-flavored coffee and beer so I'm not going to be a fan. Let my beer be mostly beer with the hops and yeast doing the flavoring! I've disliked most the beers from Erie (find them eerie) except for Final Destination, which I loved.

a) Dark brown to black brew with 1 finger of fast fade flattish khaki head. The head disappears and leaves scant lace.

s) Erupts with licorice and artificial flavoring, plus the creme brulee. Not where I want to start. Coffee, flavored 3 ways, from Keurig?

t) More licorice and 3 different plastic flavored coffees. Usually I can save a beer by pouring a good stout (Left hand eg) over it, but this is the inverse - hard to save. Licorice, vanilla, hazel nut, cinnamon, coffee and Coca-cola. (which I dont drink).
f) Soda-like, flavored. not cleansing.

O: The nose is a turn off, that never gets better.

It's light for a stout, dark brown but letting lots of light into the body. The head starts off at about half a finger but dissipates very quickly, leaving just a bit of spotting behind as the brews recedes.
The smell offers up some roast with a very gentle char and lots of sweetness, milk chocolate and vanilla the main notes. The taste offers the same. The coffee adds little complexity to the roastiness that rides overtop, but as a coffee roaster myself I just wonder if it was fresh when it was used. The flavor itself is pretty good. A hint of something akin to almond skins lingers way underneath.
This is quite thin for a stout, none of the richness or body suggesting its nature. The roastiness adds a chalky dryness underneath but pulls semi-dry due to the sweetness of the brew. There's a bit of spritz and it even seems smooth until it tapers off to a somewhat watery finish.

DATE: May 6, 2016... OCCASION: a special day: watching The Fellowship of the Ring with the boys for the first time... GLASSWARE: Victory nonick... APPEARANCE: velvet-black body that allows light to sever it slightly... brownish head stifles to a thin ring... perhaps the alcohol saps its strength... lacing is haphazard, but observable... AROMA: chocolate mousse, velvet cake, earthy coffee beans that hint at subtle vanilla... confectioner's sugar and cookie dough suggest a dessertif... some odd esters detract from the PALATE:slightly briny, textured but smooth otherwise.... medium bodied, with a cloying end... TASTE: strong vanilla and chocolate coffee bean are prominent but not overpowering... the cakelike allure gives way to cookie dough and cola... vanilla at the end sweetens the experience... OVERALL: a tough rating, as some elements are captivating, while the shiftiness of the flavor profile makes for an uneven but engaging experience... on par with the Railbender, with a bit more strength....

Very impressed with this beer. Most coffee aroma and flavor I've ever had in a coffee stout. Supremely drinkable for 7.2% ABV. A must try if you enjoy coffee stous.

Smells solid mouth feel is thin chocolate and coffee is solid though drinkable better mouth feel and higher abv and you have a great stout instead of a basic stout

Enjoyed from the 12 oz bottle in a snifter. This very nice stout pours a deep dark brown with a moderate head of light tan foam that settles to a thick ring, subtle layer, and nice sudsy lacing. Nose of coffee, sweet dark chocolate, caramel, vanilla, and roasted malts. Flavors follow the nose with a dark coffee infused brownie flavor sans coffee bitterness. Rich dark malts assault the senses on all sides with a touch of cola flavor mixed in on the back. A delicious malt bomb with medium high carbonation for a lively mouth feel, crisp is the appropriate word, almost too much but still highly drinkable and VERY sessionable. A great brew overall. More chocolate that coffee, but that is not always a bad thing.

Cheers

Not that it's saying much but this is the best beer I've had from Erie.

Black pour from 12oz bottle with creamy tan head;Big roasted coffee bean aroma with chocolate superimposed; chocolate with just a hint of coffee (more coffee nose than flavor) -a little more coffee as liquid warms; medium lite mouthfeel; lite easy to drink stout with sweet chocolate malt finish -tasty!
