Unknown bottle date

Pours bright orange- yellow. Minimal head and thin collar left after it settles. Crystal clear with no haze or floaties.

Nose is blend of grapefruit and bready malt. Subtle and not in your face but it's got something there.

Taste again is subtle subdued grapefruit but has some acidic bitterness along with it. Malts are present as well with white cracker and some candy sugar sweetness. Nice balance but it's all pedestrian. Bitterness backs off and opens up more citrus fruit flavor.

Pretty thin in the feel and has a little bit of watery qualities. Carbonation is a little on the lower end which reinforces the wateriness. Finishes fairly clean but some bitterness lingers.

Overall this is a pretty decent APA and fits the style. The feel is a bit of a downfall. The taste is ok but it's all pretty restrained, but you might expect that with an APA vs an IPA. I think this is a little better than the overall rating here but not by much

A: [3.50] Transparent copper color. 1/2 a finger of white head that settles to a ring around the edge of the glass. The bottle lists the ABV (5.5%) and has a date of (10/29/15) so this beer is around 4 months old.

S: [2.25] Pine, resin, some kind of apple juice. There is a hint of something like a vegetable in there too - that is not good.

T: [2.50] Lemon rind, peppery, no real distinct malt character.

M: [2.00] The beer is flat and is way under carbonated (it hissed when I popped it open) and it formed a head. But it is just flat tasting.

O: [2.25] This is m 2nd Erie Brewing Co. beer (totally different styles). They were both under carbonated (flat). They both had an off odor in the nose. The both were not great examples of their style. That being said this is the better of the two - but it is still a sub-par APA.

This is easier to drink than anticipated. I drink a lot hoppier beers regularly, so it was a nice change of pace.

ERIE MAD ANTHONY'S PALE ALE 2/8/16

Another from the new BoTM club my daughters signed me up for at Christmas.

Named after the famous Revolutionary War General who was born and fought in Pennsylvania.

Poured from the 12 oz. bottle into a Samuel Adams English nonick.

a; Clear gold with an inch thick white head which receded to even surface foam and patchy to dense lacing.

s: Not much to identify.

t; Bready to biscuity malt up front followed by a mild hop bite. Dry finish with biscuity notes.

m: Medium, good body and carbonation tingle.

o; A pleasant and easy drinking brew, even paler (lighter in color) than many pales. Not a harsh or cheap note to be tasted, although the hop bite eventually catches up with your tongue somewhat, confirming the "American" character.

Poured from 12oz bottle into a tulip glass. Pale straw colored, thin white head and decent lacing. Pleasant but light aroma of fruit? pear? Decent hop flavor although it seemed "thin". Clean mouthfeel and no lingering aftertaste.

This is a very strong beer. And to taste its bitter but strong. Very foamy head and watch the bubbles in the glass.. Very big aftertaste of malt. Take careful note this is a strong tasting beer.
