Draft at Cafe Berlin in D.C.

Mahogany body with a white, frothy sea foam head. Aromas of clove, light spice, malt. Fresh, distinctly German, and delicious.

Pours a slightly hazed dark amber color with a two finger yellowed white head that clings to everything. Popping the cap sends sweet wheat malts aromas wafting towards my being. Hints of various fruits, lots of clove and some banana round out the nose quite well. The taste of this pulls me in a couple of directions. I'm first hit with some caramel, burnt sugar, and plums. That is followed up by and hint of lemon, clove and banana. First I think bock then its clear the hefe is in the house. Leaves a lingering spicy wheat taste on the tongue. Medium body, creamy smooth mouthfeel, lots of carbonation. Not usually something I would pick up, but I rather enjoyed this one. I could see a few of these on a warm day in my future.

Pours a cloudy, copper/maize color. 5/4 inch head of a pale tan color. Good retention and decent lacing. Smells of pear, coriander, yeast, sweet malt, and tart malt. Fits the style of a Dunkelweizen. Mouth feel is sharp and acidic with an average carbonation level. Tastes of yeast, pear, and tart malt. Overall, a good aroma, good appearance, lacking in complexity, and weak in body.

Bottled on 08.06 -- Poured into HP Weizen glass.

I have to say that usually a beer is better on-tap. But, in this case, the beer is just as good, if not better in the bottle. Nice mix of banana-clove and caramel with other candyish malts. Nice malt/yeast balance. Delicious and easily drinkable. See my review of it on-tap (two reviews down).

Appearance: rosy, cloudy, beneath a lush, looming, lovely dollop of a creamy, puddingesque head.
Aroma: creamy, clovey, there's the banana, too, with a whiff of other tropical fruits, sensuous, arousing, inherently likable.
Great grit and grab on the palate with first sip, nice blitz of hops, followed by lush, mellow malt. Great body, long, lingering finish, persistent flavor. Smooth, and very easy on the tongue, Goes down the gullet nice as a dream.
A good dunkel-weisse is a wonderful thing, and Hacker's is a sterling example.

Poured into a stange glass. Beer is brown and hazy with a thick head that falls away leaving very little lacing on the glass. Carbonation moderate. Looks OK.

Aroma is pretty banana-y, I like it.

Beer is medium bodied and really creamy, a very good beer. Finishes nicely, not dry. Good fruit flavors on the midpalate, a really good dunkelweiss, even if its misspelled.

Dark and nutty in color, with silky head, lazy carbonation keeps the head alive during the course of the drink. Flavors of toffee and butterscotch, and a little coffee bitterness make this an easy drinker. Lovely!

I've never liked the dunkel weizens as much as a good ole hefe, but this is pretty good. Heck, I like it better than Hacker-Pschorr's normal hefe. It tastes of dark bread and light toffee without any edge. Very very smooth with a touch of banana and clove. A heck of a drinker.

The beer pours a dark amber color with a thick frothy off-white head that fades to lacing. The aroma is decent. It boasts of wheat and caramel malts. It has a average wheat scent with an intense caramel odor. The taste is good. It has a strong dark wheat flavor with a honey type finish. It has a light caramel taste that mixes well and finishes smooth and sweet. The mouthfeel is excellent. It is a medium/full bodied beer with adequate carbonation; just right. This dunkel drinks great. It has a smooth taste that goes down easy.

355 ml bottle, poured into my Eisenbahn Weizenbock glass, on to the beer:

The beer makes a fizzing noise in my glass, the head has average retention, the body being a murky orange with a mix of brown. Lovely aroma, phenolic for sure, bits of plastic, apples...juicy golden colored apples, faint banana, Sweet, juicy apples is the first thing to come to mid when in taste this beer. Chalky yeast is the second thing. Some cinnamon makes a presence. Graham crackers? Has a good sturdy mouthfeel with a pretty strong carbonation.

I wonder how this would pair with an apple pie, or if you could cook an apple pie with this beer? I think this beer knocks off one of the "servings" of fruit I should eat every day.

I had this on tap at the Hackerhaus in Munich.

A: Murky, brownish-orange, off-white head, excellent retention and lace. Couldn't be better.

S: Banana bread.

T: Bready malt, banana, sweet caramel. Well-rounded and smooth, but not exceptional.

M: Moderate body is slightly creamy. Moderate carbonation.

D: Quite good.

Poured whole bottle into my hefe glass and received a one-finger head that really receeded slowly. A nice smell combining citric notes such as lemon, orange and banana with some spices like clove and pepper. A quality lemon-zest taste with a smooth mouthfeel as the spices are balanced in this beer, so there is some crispness hidden in there with the hops. Also a good malt taste is tucked in there, something like cocoa or toffee, and there might be some caramel in there too for that hint of sweetness.
Semi-dry backbite seals the deal, as this is a great dark hefe and I would recommed this beer to anyone to try, not just dunkel fans.

A. Poured from a 17 oz bottle into a beer mug. Appears light brown with a chunky head and some nice lacing.

S. Wheat is in the forefront with some herbal hops in the background.

T. Pretty well balanced here, some wheat is there, not so much banana tasting as some others have reported. Instead the hop bitterness shines through with an almost lemony twang.

M. Pretty smooth and good going down.

D. Fairly drinkable and made for sessions.

Hits those brown color notes with a cola looking head on the top. The yeast is so seemingly mixed up here, you get lots of banana phenols in a dark beer! Cool I guess. Booze is heavy in the aroma, wheat a backdrop aroma wise.

Taste was so much spice rack. This really had a belgian yeast vibe going heavy for it as the prominent flavor delivery mechanism. Lots of clove, tea, dark wheat bread vibes. Can just hear old school half century guys talking this up. Would recommend only to dunkel fans.

On tap at the Tap and Growler here in Eugene.

It's hard to imagine a better dunkel weissen, frankly. The nose offers up considerable spice and dark fruits, which is replicated very nicely on the palate. Add to that a completely reasonable abv., and it's hard for me to pass this by, whenever I see it on the tap list. Just an excellent, well crafted dunkel from this always reliable German brewery.
