A powerful smell. Electric yeast and apricots. A little bit of grain.

Tastes great. Spicy and fruity esters upfront, and explosive zip of wheat malt in the back. A nice, dry and very fruity aftertaste.

This has one of the most crisp bodies of any weizen I've ever tried. It's very refreshing! This would be a great session beer for the times when you and a group of friends have just got done with some hard work. Like, if I had just built a doghouse and wanted to reward myself this is the beer that I would drink a lot of.

Good frothy cola brown pour. Weird something like this gives off a banana aroma. I guess the other smell is wheat, although its a little stronger than usual.

Taste was more yeast and clove than I was hoping for. Dark caramel, tea leaves and bready. A good deal of complexities, but not really up my alley. Drank it first from Koppa's in Milwaukee, gave it another try, just can't get into what it brings to the table. Doesn't falter because of lack of taste, I just can't get too much into dunkels still.

Poured from a typically big German bottle into a pint glass. Presented a nice foamy head over hazy auburn liquid. The smell was typical weizen, cloves and yeasty aroma.

The taste was a little bitter, a little bit of chocolate, and clove spice.

Pretty good.

The beer pours out a healthy deep amber color with a monstrous head, consistency is frothy, the lace voluminous sheets that cling very tightly to the glass both pleasant beige color. The malted grain and wheat tones show through and give the nose a fresh bread aroma, caramel, also somewhat sweet to the senses.
Begins malt sweet, the top middling in mouth feel, the finish tart, somewhat astringent, the hops powerful they strike your “Taste Buds”, dry lingering aftertaste. Quite a quaffable beer that is well worth the effort to find and sample.

This brew pours a brown color with reddish hues around the edges of the glass. The head is massive last long lasting. The aroma is cloves, chocolate malt, and banana. The taste is like the aroma, but with a little less clove. The mouthfeel is a touch lighter than medium bodied, and the carbonation is high and too style. Overall, this is a pretty good dunkel weizen...not the best, but pretty good.

12oz bottle poured into glass - thanks to lgandrew

Pours a clouded deep, dark orange, almost browned color. A thicker layering of slightly off-white head rests on top, retaining well. Some streaks of lacing on the glass.

Some roasted malts, but dark fruit forward in the nose. Touches of plum, raisin, and date, with an edge of burnt sugar. Notes of wheat as well.

Wheat and toasty malts, swirled with dark fruit sweetness. Hints of caramelized sugar, some candied fruit. Plum, raisin, and date, but not heavy on the tongue. Roasted malt tones with wheat, slight hop touch towards the finish. Clean and crisp on the end, no alcohol.

Medium bodied, decent carbonation, fairly smooth and easy on the palate. Drinks nicely, solid classic example of the style.

500 mL bottle pours a cloudy, light brown color with a fluffy tan head that fades quick and leaves a few streaks of lace.

Nose is hazelnuts, mild cocoa, cake batter and bananas foster. Interesting smell, I really dont get a whole lot of cloves or wheat strangely.

Taste shows more wheat than the nose and is crisp and light despite the color. The choco notes come out much more and the yeast is more nutty than clove and banana. Kinda nice for a switch up. I like it. The mouthfeel is nice and sooo easy to drink. Good stuff!

Had this on 2011-11-27 in Columbia, PA

A - Very hazy , leather-brown with a 2-finger light tan head that fades to 1/2 finger quickly.

S - Lots of clove, some banana, touch of apple cider sweetness.

T - Delicious. The roasted, sweet malt mixes with the banana and clove, conjuring again the illusion of fresh-pressed apple cider. Of course, unlike cider, this dries nicely and pretty clean.

M - Medium body and high carbonation give a cleansing and thirst quenching feel.

O - I just finished a vigorous 15-mile hike and sat down to enjoy this beer. It tasted great and sure is a nice start to replacing the electrolytes I crave (see the movie Idiocracy if you don't get this joke).

Poured from the tap at Otto's in Willow Grove, PA. The appearance – is a light brown color with a medium sized white head. The aroma is a powerful toasted malt smell that is really pleasing. The flavor matches the aroma. A really good dunkel weisse

Cloudy syrup brown color with a finger high frothy thick cream colored head that sticks around for a few minutes before crumbling down to a solid skim always present and drippy strings of lace with some minimal stickyness. Secure hefe nose of wheaty toastyness and clove spice with hints of apple skin and banana and some phenolic notes underneath. Taste is a toasted malt forthcoming in a pleasant full softness, playful and fluffy wheatyness with mild spice of clove and small notes of banana and melon husks. Feel is medium bodied with a nice soft fluffyness of nearly full carbonation that floats through the palate with ease and makes for some good drinking.

Appealing golden-brown color, with a creamy, fine head. Decent head and cloudiness imparted somewhat by a bottle-swirl to pour in the yeasties. Pleasing nose, with the typical Bayerisch banana-clove combo, though not overly spicy. Taste yields more of the flavors picked up in the nose...banana-clove, etc. Medium bodied, and well-recieved on the tongue. Well-pleased by this offering. Zum Wohl!

Appearance – Beautiful light brown in color with a good head that laced the glass.

Smell – Rich, chocolaty, toasted malt aroma with some light fruit and a dash of table sugar.

Taste – The deep malt flavors come out nicely at the tongue. The chocolate is there as well, along with some nice, dark fruits and a good helping of brown sugar.

Mouthfeel – Fully carbonated, big body, and not a hint of alcohol helps this one go down smoothly.

Drinkability – I’ll prost with a bottle of this any day of the week. This is a classic, authentic, German Dunkel Weitzen.

Update – I reviewed this beer shortly after joining the site so thought it would be fun to re-review it after having been here over a year and rating 1,200+ beers. It’s a solid “4” all the way around. There are just a handful of imports within the style that I’ve had that I enjoy better than this, and I think the Ramstein Classic is the only American made one to date.

Aroma has a strong wheat character, including phenol qualities of clove. Hints of dark malt and caramel and nutty sweetness.
Huge tannish head. Amber brown slightly cloudy.
Flavor is much like aroma. Wheat beer qualties incluing some phenol and clean. Ever so slight richness from dark malt with notes of caramel or brown sugar and some nuttiness. Very pleasing.
Little thin but soft and refreshing.
Nice drink. Smooth and thirst quenching.
