look: 4 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Presentation: 12oz brown pop top with classy label

Appearance: Hazy rich gold beer capped with a creamy whipped cream ivory cap.

Smell: Rich, classic Hefeweizen all the way. Lemony notes backed with mild spice, light banana, and clove. Straightforward and delicious.

Taste: Tart lemon, banana, ghost of dry malt in the background on the finish. Light, yeasty, refreshing.

Mouthfeel: Medium-crisp and refreshing

Drinkability: A quaffer for sure

Conclusion: Beautiful warm weather beer. Gimme warm summer evenings, German food, and this beer. One of the best German wheats I've had to date. Simple. Solid. Delicious.

poured out a very thick foamy head and a cloudy lemon-ish orange color with darker hues swirling through out. took a while for the foaminess to settle down. Aroma was musty, fruity and I hate to say but smelled a bit like a wet dog. It had an slight apple and sour note and finished with a bready musty end. mouth feel was soft and chunky. It was an ok beer, but I felt one would do me just fine.

cheers

This seemed a little heavy for the style but its not a bad beer by any means.Poured a deep hazy orange color with nice pillowey head, smell was very clovey and spicey with a slight fruitiness in the background.Nice clovey taste with a good amount of banana also coming thru, pretty tasty.A nice weisse but like I said it seemed a little heavy for the style, would rather have a Tucher or Paulaner if I wanted to have more than a couple.

Golden orange pour with a generous foamy head. The nose was light, fruity, citrus & floral but maybe only a small hint of banana. The taste was also very light and lacked body and complexity. Again citrus flavours with an almost lemon/tangy finish. Not what i might have expected from a hefe-weizen. However, this beer does serve a purpose as it is an adequate thirst quencher on a warm summers day. Decent but not outstanding by any stretch.

Appearance - This one came out a solid, almost bright orange in color with a good weizen head. The sediment from the bottle left brown drippings on top of the foam.

Smell - The yeast, banana, cherry, and clove are all pretty balanced here.

Taste - This is big for a weizen. All of the smells from the nose are present in the taste, but nothing really dominates.

The yeast is very bready, liked fully-baked bread. The fruits are a collection of banana, cherry, and lemon, although no sourness is present. The banana doesn't dominate like in a lot of weizens. The spicing is clove mostly but, again, not overpoweringly so.

Mouthfeel - This is a solid medium in the body, which is about as big as a weizen will get. The carbonation is effervescent and lightens the feel of the beer in the mouth.

Drinkability - This is a bit heavy-handed for a Hefe Weizen, but it certainly gets the job done.

Update - I first reviewed this beer in 2005 and thought I'd compare notes with a 2010 sampling. It is amazingly consistent and exactly as I remember it. I still think it's a bit heavy-handed for me as I appreciate the delicacy of a German Weizen but all of the components of the style are here and expertly done.

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine July 2007.

This is one of the originals--an old-world wheat beer brewed with 60 percent wheat and 40 percent barley.

Served in a traditional wheat beer glass, the pour yields a towering head; the carbonation swirls while the foam slowly dissolves back into the liquid. Amazing head retention. Trademark Hefeweizen appearance: cloudy orange. Big fruity aroma of ripe bananas, soft clove and a waft of wheat. Smoothness is sublime as it rolls around the mouth with moderate body. Solid bread malt flavor with the wheat character obviously dominating, fruitiness coming big in the middle with ripe bananas and a hint of lemon. Very mild hop bitterness pushed down by a medium-sized spicy clove phenols that do most of the balancing. Neutral yeast flavor and lingering wheat appear in the dry finish.

First off, never put a slice of lemon in this beer--that would be committing He- fecide. If the beer supposed to have a lemon in it, don't you think the brewers would have taken care of that for us? Hacker-Pschorr Weisse may be lacking in complexity, but it makes up for that tenfold with drinkability, which is what we look for in He- feweizens. Pair it with an egg salad sandwich on rye bread with kosher dill pickles.

Presentation: 1 pint light brown bottle with stamped freshness date.

Appearance: Pours as a cloudy golden orange with a magnificent creamy, chunky white head -- it keeps well and sticks to the glass. Carbonation is fine.

Smell: Light clove and crisp wheat aroma.

Taste: Crisp and refreshing from the very beginning with a lemony hop snap and gentle tingle on the palate. Smoothes out with a slightly buttery caramel flavour (like a butterscotch candy), followed by clove spice and a slightly grain dry finish.

Notes: This weisse is simply sumptuous! What a session beer!

Nice fat and juicy wheat beer, spicy flavours upfront with a crisp carbonation. Little bit of phenolic activity with suggestions of clove and black pepper. The fruitiness is all over the place ... so nix the lemon wedge please.

My local store had this on sale at $8.99 for a 12 pack. This pours thick with a nice head. Smell is sweet like cotton candy. Taste is rich and creamy, not too sweet. Mouthfeel is smooth. Finishes very clean for a weisse beer. I like this and will drink it again, although it's not a great session beer.

Pours an appropriate murky golden color with a medium ivory head of small tightknit bubbles. Massive sheet lacing. Tantalizing aroma of floral grasses, lemony citrus, coriander and other spices, and wheat. Mouthfeel is well carbonated and medium bodied. Feels very pleasant on the tongue. Taste is excellent. Notes of wheat grain, yeast, tart citrus, and cloves and coriander provide a well balanced and refreshing Weisse. Clean and dry finish leaves me wanting more, but alas..this was my only one. Very nice and refreshing. This probably would've gotten some 5's if I were rating it on a hot, summer day.

12 oz bottle, pours gold/orange and cloudy, lifts a noble off white, large head, which lasts and lasts. Leaves some lace. Sweat nose of wheat, orange peel and spice. Flavor is dominated by ripe bananas, clove, yeast, bread. Mouthfeel is top notch, creamy and sliky smooth. Fine German wheat. Refreshing, tasty and complex. you cannot go wrong with this brew.

Thanks to a good friend for opening up my eyes to this one...not a huge wheat beer fan, so this is not one I would normally pick up...glad he did.
A cloudy, citrus color with almost two full fingers of bright white head...a decent layer remains for the duration and leaves some very thin lacing.
Crisp in the nose...a light malt sweetness with a hint of clove spice, banana and bready yeast.
Taste is very enjoyable...just enough of everything. Clove, banana, citrus, sweet malt...very little hop to add any sort of bittering effect.
Mouthfeel is much thicker than I was expecting...not a light beer, as the yeast really adds depth to the brew.
Goes down very easy and could be a summer session brew for me...no doubt.
A pleasant surprise for me...
