Best before: 01/15. 5.0% ABV confirmed. 33 cl brown glass swingtop bottle acquired at a Tengelmann in Munich and served into a generic kitchen glass. Reviewed live. Expectations are above average.
Served slightly chilled. Side-poured gently.
No bubble show forms as it's poured.
HEAD: One finger wide. White in colour. Decent creaminess. Somewhat thin, to the detriment of its lackluster frothiness. Leaves no lacing as it recedes. I expect a wide foamy head in a good helles, and this doesn't deliver. Still, it's not awful looking, and retention is average (~2 minutes).
BODY: Clear straw yellow - very pilsner-y. Ample carbonation bubbles suggest it's crisp and refreshing. Excellent clarity. Translucent and transparent. Average vibrance. Clean; no yeast particulate or hop sediment is visible.
Overall, it looks pretty standard for a helles, and I'm optimistic.
AROMA: There's a faint wisp of starchiness and bready character, actually - it's got a bit more heft than I anticipate. The usual fresh clean pilsner malts do make an appearance alongside pleasant floral hop character and a light soapiness. Hints of lemongrass/citron. It's just a biteen soapy; this may have spent slightly too long in primary. A pleasant aroma of average strength. It's interesting in that it isn't just the flat pilsner malt aroma of most helles beers. Any Munich malts aren't surfacing much.
No yeast character, alcohol, or off-notes are detectable.
TEXTURE/TASTE: Pilsner malts and Munich malts blend to create a refreshing, enjoyable, clean, and crisp foundation. It's smooth, wet, aptly carbonated (especially for a swingtop), and fairly soft.
No yeast character, off notes, or alcohol comes through, to its benefit. This flavour profile has the clean crisp taste I look for in a helles, but lacks true depth and subtlety. It's well balanced for what relatively little is here, but there are far more complex and intricate helles lagers out there - and this one is worse for not rising to their level.
Average flavour duration and intensity.
Not oily, gushed, hot, boozy, astringent, scratchy, or rough on the palate. Overall presence on the palate is pretty nice, but this texture doesn't feel custom-tailored to the taste.
A likable helles overall.
O: Absolutely drinkable, but it's also quite forgettable. I'd probably drink it again (or buy it again without realizing it since it's so unmemorable) but I wouldn't recommend it to friends and it's far from world class. You can do far better in the Munich area for a helles lager, but this was nice to try once. Certainly above average by virtue of its balance alone. Disguises its ABV well, and makes for a nice summer refresher.

L: gives a clear straw golden color. Small top of head disolves rapidly. Lacings on the side of the glass.
S: bread, malt, hints of honey, herbs and spices.
T&F: Inn the start is light malt with hints of some fruity sweetness. Get more bitter in the finish with a hoppy character mixed with some grassy and herbal notes. Else it gives a clean and crisp mouthfeel and is medium carbonated.
O: overall is a decent and drinkable helles, but is far more better german helles out there. I personaly think it was to hoppy for the style.

Presentation: 12oz light brown European bottle. Freshness date clearly marked (lower front label). I like this label as it has a beer maiden holding 3 huge mugs of beer with the other hand on her hip. Oh yeah, that's cool.
Appearance: Clear, bright golden/yellow with a pure white creamy foam head. It slightly clings to the glass as it rests to a delicate foam lace.
Smell: Sweet and raw grains with mellow fruits in the aroma.
Taste: Very smooth and even feeling on the palate, medium-bodied. The tight carbonation creates a creamy wave that breaks out to a raw tea-like broth with a balancing sweetness and light fruitiness. Grain, some musty tones, metallic flavours, light esters and a subdued citrus-like hop flavour, that snaps and dries the palate, follows -- making for a very fresh tasting, interesting, crisp and refreshing beer. Ends with some grain on the palate, rather dry and husky.
Notes: Another winner from Hacker-Pschorr in my opinion. This beer has a lot of mouthfeel and flavour for a deceptively light in appearance brew.

A stocky lager with a hefty pale maltiness that may lack a bit in character but lays down a solid clean flavour throughout. Hint of alcohol after a few sips, bitterness is more than enough to counter the maltiness with a flowery herbal flavour. Highly drinkable though a bit potent as well.

Crystal - clear light - golden hue, topped by a thin but well - retained head. Sweet, grainy malt notes dominate the aroma, but a subtle herbal hop nose is discernible as well. The flavor profile is comprised of light hop bitterness and non - descript malt sweetness. Lightly bodied, w/ a slightly watery mouthfeel, but drinkability remains quite good. The finish is mildly bitter and clean. Although a decent helles, it seemed to lack a bit of malt backbone. I could easily drink several of these, however.

Crystal-clear medium golden color with a small white head and a few small bubbles rising lazily to the surface; fairly good lace. Spicy herbal aroma that carries a fairly sturdy malt note as well. Taste begins with a well-rounded sweet maltiness, this gives way to a tart finish with lots of spicy herbal hoppiness. Finish is dry with a lingering mild bitterness. Not great, in my opinion, but shares the quality and craftsmanship that defines German brewing.
