Having been here at least 100 times I can tell you they have a lot of craft beer but they order a lot of crap nobody wants to drink and it sits around and most of the staff are part times that could give a crap less about beer and don't want to help or even know how to help a customer

Warehouse Liquor doesn't look like much from the outside except your typical slightly neglected up north liquor store. Pulling into the parking lot you notice some signs advertising different kinds of craft beer. Opening the door and looking off to the right you see an upscale beer store, unexpected. Four or five wooden 4'x6' shelves, where aisles usually are located, carry an impressive selection of individually priced singles most of which are from the upper midwest. A long shelve of craft covers the right wall and aisle stands hold a lot of seasonals. The row of coolers in back is fairly small but carries a good amount of local and regional craft.

The service was outstanding! The owner was at the register when I stopped in. He was easy to talk to, full of knowledge, and excited about working with beer. He helped steer me toward some of the new releases; Surly Wet, Bent Paddle Brewing, and Schell Star of the North. Tons of MN locals, Founders, Bells, Odell, lots o' stuff. My only complaint is that a few things were past their prime, not necessarily past the best by date but a few IPAs that were older than I would have liked. With the amazing service and selection I'll let that slide each and everyday. The owner was a great guy to chat with and I can't recommend this place enough.

It's always a pleasure visiting Warehouse Liquor. They certainly have the best selection of beer that I have ever seen. The massive array of both American and Import singles are always fun to explore (and I always do for great lengths of time). Most importantly, they always have everything Surly - chilled and ready to go.

I always converse with the staff and get the latest updates on their newest products or what may be coming soon. They are friendly and also very knowledgeable of everything beer (they are not strangers to BA). I don't live nearby, at times I have called ahead, reserved certain selections, and they've been more than happy to do that.

As other reviewers have noted, check the bottle dates as some have sat a while. They're prices are okay, not the best in Duluth, but not unreasonable either.

Overall, a great beer store. I recommend Warehouse Liquor as the go-to place for all your beer needs. A+

Finally visited this place after hearing about it for the last twenty five years (yeah, I'm lazy and a late effin' bloomer) and made the trip especially to get my hands on a few bottles from Borealis Fermentery out of Knife River, MN.

My first impression -- outside the front door:
"This itty-bitty place has the best selection in the Arrowhead Region?"

My second impression -- upon entry:
"Man, this place should be featured on T.V.'s 'Hoarders'!"

Indeed, this place is not in the least bit large as far as retailers go these days, not the least because he claims (the sign on the outside) to have 700 unique beer SKUs crammed inside. Well, I get inside and the place is packed like a beer trader's basement, with cases stacked in the back half of the store almost as if he has no proper warehouse space (the basement? offsite?), but it doesn't seem to matter: there are hundreds of foreign singles, dozens of floor-stackers, a coldbox in the far back end of the store, a few display coolers and rack after rack of specialty and craft multi-packs. It looked like what I'd expect to see happen to Pilney's Blue Max if Jim Sebring were ever allowed to become a ticker/trader . . . just whacky! So, the sign said there were 700 beers? My cautious guess would up that number to 850, my less-cautious/too much to dream last night/"still hungover from Carmody and a night in Soup Town" guess is closer to 1,100 beers. No shit.

Still, I already wasted precious time at the Vinyl Cave and hadn't done any romantic stuff (walk along the shore/Canal Park/Skyline Drive) with the fairer sex in-tow, so I didn't spend too much more time here; just picked up a handful of individually-priced singles (I didn't see a mix-a-six price and wasn't really looking to get that many, anyway) along with the Borealis brands while my friendly-girl grabbed a couple of others.

Paid in cash, and away we go! Down to Canal Park to wait for that silly new similarly-named brewpub to open... and waited some more (what, they can't answer the telephone?) before just saying 'fuggit!' and going to pick up lunch at Old Chicago, and --that's--when I looked at my itemized receipt from Warehouse Liquors and "OH MY GOSH! I've been Gypped! I didn't get an entire sixer of 'Old Busted Hymen', just a single!"

Flashback: I was chatting-up the owner at Warehouse somethin' fierce, really givin' him the old chin-wag and shmooveville routine. Well, he was also checking in with one of his wholesale (beer) sales guys and another guy, selecting him a few bottles of $2 Tisdale wine. And, well: when he finally got around to ringing me up from all of this other multitasking he ended up scanning a couple of barcodes in error. (No problem, though, because he made a point of clearly pointing-out the itemized receipt and I got that all squared-away later that afternoon, with another employee. She was totally cool and credited me in cash, making careful note on her register's Z roll, just to square the books.)

Back to the store. It is a literal goldmine for rare-r imports from Belgium and New Zealand and India and everywhere, really, the sort of place you don't find very often outside of the Twin Cities or Milwaukee (or Chicago, on occasion) and I did indeed find a few veins of gold, but also some fool's gold in a handful of past-code packages and brands brought in during the unhinged days of Vino Source/Uncorked. But ya know what? Shit like that happens, and a guy like this who's passionate enough about beer (and may need to grouse about those date codes with his sales guys) shouldn't be held to task for too much of this nit-picky stuff. But I am a nit picker, and so I mention it anyway... SIGH. Can't win for losin' eh?

Half of the prices here were good-to-fair, but a few were kinda nutso in a crazy grandma antique mall sorta-way, so those were enough (plus the Minnesota Craft beer(TM) singles being priced between $2 and $2.50? "I'm used to lower in the Cities"...) to make me think of that old Latin phrase "caveat emptor" and all that jazz.

In the end Warehouse Liquor is not a bad spot at all, but a VERY GOOD one, and very much worth a visit if you happen to be nearby and looking for something out of the ordinary.

Just don't let your enthusiasm trump your common sense, as can happen, and you'll be golden. Also: might want to grab your miner's lamp and a copy of your personalized Excel spreadsheet for tickin': getting all the way through this place might take a while...

Like previous reviewers had mentioned, beware of bottle dates...You can find some nice stuff sitting on the shelf, but there is plenty that is passed it's prime. I found a 2009 Goose Island Christmas Ale sitting on the bottle shelf. Might not be good anymore, but for 7 dollars, I will give it a try.

I also stopped in for some Borealis beer, and they had plenty. I loaded up and scoped out the shelves, which is where mostly all their beer lies, on warm shelves. That doesn't bother me at all. They have a nice lay out, with many singles available both in 12 oz. format and many bombers/750 ml bottles. Quite a good selection of Belgians and imports...some Orval from 2010.

I will definitely stop by again when visiting the Duluth area.

Stopped by here looking for some Borealis beer which I was happy to find. Based on reviews, looks like this is the best craft store in Duluth. They do have a huge selection, however nearly all of it is on warm shelves and some of it seems to have been there for a long time. I found an Arcadia bomber with a 2006 vintage date sitting on the shelf so buyer beware of dates. Prices were a couple of dollars more per sixer/bomber when compared to prices in the Twin Cities. About every available brewery in the state is represented here with the addition of South Shore which is not distributed down to the TC area. The guy at the counter was very friendly and helpful. A good overall beer store.

This was Duluth’s first true beer destination store and will always be near and dear to my heart. In the barren waste land of BMC macro garbage, Warehouse was the only place to go to get real beer. If only they kept their beer cool...

Atmosphere: A dark carpeted room packed full of beer, with some liquors and wines. Almost hard to walk the isles, there’s so much beer.

Quality: Half their selection is macro, but the other half is a vast expanse of micro brews most of which I have never heard of and will almost never get the chance to try. Really, I’m not sure where they get most of these beers. There’s even a huge selection of foreign beers. Huge. 200+

Here’s what needs to be said: The number of skunked, nasty beers I’ve had from here is unreasonable. Warehouse is the only place in town to get Avery brews and Great Divide brews, but every single one I’ve had has been nasty, and I lived in Boulder, CO, and know what it’s supposed to taste like. Most of the beers here ARE NOT REFRIGERATED and have been on the shelves for quite a while. This is no good. The shop would do well to turn THE ENTIRE STORE into a walk-in refrigerator, because so many of their beers end up skunky. This is too bad.

Service: There are two sides here. First of all, the staff is super friendly and committed to helping and almost appear excited to talk to you about beer. Second, each conversation I’ve had has exposed a complete lack of understanding of beer. Good and bad.

Selection: The Best. The best in Duluth. The Beer Cave at Woodland Bottle Shoppe is the only competition. This is the most extensive selection of Beer in Duluth. On the other hand, I haven’t heard of half of the beers and wonder where they came from and why there are here. If I tried them all, would they will all be good? Sometimes, quantity does not mean quality.

This place has been invaluable since we moved to northern MN four years ago. Unassuming from the outside, it's crammed with a bazillion great beers, domestic and imported. I visited last week for the first time in a few months (we live 80 miles away) and found the beer selection substantially updated. Lots of new big-bottle craft beers and several new breweries have been added to the already great selection. The owner is more than happy to walk around and help and is responsive to special requests. I also really appreciate being able to make mixer sixers of everything, which allows one to try several new beers without committing to a whole six pack. Overall- a fun and interesting place to shop and a huge asset for northern Minnesota/NW Wisconsin beer enthusiasts!

Warehouse Liquor has one of the best craft beer selections I've seen around the Duluth area. I assume they sell the majority of craft beer labels distributed to Duluth. There are a lot of single bottles from all over the world, lots of Midwest brews. I always check the bottle dates, some beer is fresh, some can be quite old. I always enjoy looking around, it takes me at least 20 minutes to make my choices. The owner always seems to be working when I visit. He's always answered my questions and seems to know his product quite well.

Made a quick stop in here to pick up some Surly while on vacation with my girlfriend's family. This was a quick stop because we had an RV taking up most of the parking lot, but I still was able to get a good idea of the quality of this location.

The selection was great. Everywhere I looked there was beer, much that I hadn't seen before in Ohio, and a lot that I had seen in other places. The staff was very helpful. Since I knew what I wanted, the loan worker pointed me right to it and talked me through what each was, even though I already had a pretty good idea. He talked up each brew, and even tried to help me out a little. Unfortunately, I'm on a limited budget until I start my new job, so I couldn't get much.

I feel like I could have spent hours in this shop if I had the time, and honestly wish I could have. My girlfriend said the same thing, as she's been stuck in a few stores with me, and she was even impressed by the selection.

If you're passing through, definitely try to stop in. It's not far off of I-35 and not really out of your way. If you're in town and live here, I'm just slightly jealous of you.

I've dropped in here a few times now and have had good experiences each time. Easily the best store for beer in Duluth. Selection is pretty solid - they have most MN and WI beers and each time I've visited they have had a few beers that have long since sold out in The Cities. The selection of bottles available in singles is very good and they also have a strong lineup of imports.

Service, in particular has been great. Staff have been friendly and very enthusiastic about beer. On the negative side, the store is pretty small and densely packed and there isn't much cooler space. But they make due pretty well with available space.

Overall, a great stop for beer if you happen to be in or near Duluth.

From the outside you wouldn't expect the place to be the best place in Duluth to get craft beer. Well if you read all the banners outside you probably would figure it out too. Lots of singles to choose from. Bells, Rogue, Lake Superior, Surly, and many many more. Only a couple of brands missing that are normal for the Twin Cities. They have a couple of coolers in the store. Some wine and BMC in them. Two-three doors allocated to Craft. They have the usual greats in those coolers though. Picked up a 5 liter of Bells Oberon on out way camping. The owner gave us instructions on how to chill in down quickly for consumption. Luckily they had a cold one in the back cooler for us. One great thing about the warehouse is that they don't have any windows that I can see. So I've never had a skunked beer from them. Great place to pick up those DIPA's. The prices seem right on. They are my place to go when in Duluth.

I have been to this store a few times, and figured it is time to review it. When you walk in, you see a nice selection of singles available for sale. They have a nice selection of imports from Belgium, Germany, Canada, and the UK. I do question how long some of the beers sit on the shelf though. I saw a Duvel gift pack with the glass included from last winter, and a large basket of dusty beers marked down which I decided not to touch. They also have Celis available from Michigan Brewing, which I have not seen in the Twin Cities, and Surly. I also saw the usual craft beers that are available in the Twin Cities. Overall, a nice store. They do need to watch the age of some of their beers though.

Heard from BA that this place had a good singles selection. They did. Nothing to exotic that I hadn't heard of or seen elsewhere in MN, but a lot of singles I've been afraid of getting the whole 6/12 of for cost. Lots of local stuff and even more foreign, including some from non-traditional beer places like Italy. Price was ok, most American bottles were $1.50-2.50. Foreign went considerably higher. Most expensive I noticed (for a beer I didn't know) was $8 or $9. Service wasn't great for me, but I noticed him helping other people. Maybe he thought I knew my way around. The place is like 10 min out of downtown and it kind of looks like a dump. The Picture dose it justice. Like the old addage says don't judge a book by it's cover. Inside it's packed. They have used every amount of space availible, and have a realy great amount of singles. I ended up coming back for a second trip, and chatted with one of the clerks, maybe the owner, he was nice and realy willing to help. My only gripe is the obvously have old beer, possably last years Bells ocktoberfest, and some other pumpkin beers, but most glraingly were some christmas ales. Now there wern't alot don't get me wrong, but make sure you check the bottles for dates and dust. There was also a suspect basket of singles. All in all there is a realy good slection of beer and keep your eyes peeled for the "Famous Fat Cat Beer."

I heard about this place right here on BeerFly and I just had to check the place out.

First off, seeing the place from the outside you might think it's just like any other package liquor joint- it's in a smallish ciderblock building on a corner lot- it almost looks like it could have been a gas station back in the day.

In fact they do sell the cheap stuff- the counterman was gently chiding a regular as he brought a suitcase of Hamms up to the counter.

But this place has the most concentrated selection of different beers I have EVER seen. You just can't do any better north of the 'cities. The place is like the magic cavern of beer or something- I can't even remember everything.

Another plus was the staff- the guy at the counter was knowledgeable, friendly, and enthusiastic. Most people who work at liquor stores- it's just a job, and they couldn't care less about the "weird beers" because they don't understand them and don't want to take the time to check out their own stock. They don't sell beer, they just take your money. This guy was not that way- he knew his stock, and he took the time to know his customer, which at the time was me.

75 bucks later, I left Duluth with the last of my tiny trunk space filled with beer, and I didn't even scratch the surface.

Reading some of the other reviews here, I notice some talk about old beers. Far's I'm concerned, a good beer can handle a little aging- but the thing is, there wasn't a speck of dust anywhere on any bottle, nor did I see yellowing labels or any other visual cues warning me of such a thing. My impression was that if this was an issue, it's not anymore.

Pricing is kind of the same way- I have no problem dropping 7-10 bucks on a bomber of something I could not otherwise get- it's still waay cheaper than wine or premium vodka or whatnot.

I'm gonna have to hit the place three or four times before the snow flies- I recommend the same to you!

I stopped in while in Duluth this past October to get some brews I couldn't find locally.

The clerk, perhaps the owner (?), was very pleasant, good homebrew and overall beer talk. Very knowledgeable and very nice guy.

The selection is tremendous, hundreds of beers available.

The prices are about average.

My biggest complaint and this shouldn't be taken lightly, many beers I have tried from the store are obviously past their prime and spent too much time in the fluorescent lighting. A better turnover would greatly help the store.

I would return because of the selection and service were great, but I would be very careful in looking for any dating on bottles.

This is the place to shop for beer in Duluth. It's just up the hill from downtown by a couple miles before the Murray Hill Mall. All the good beer is up front when you walk in and there's a nice two-sided shelf of singles for sale. But beware, and this is my only problem with this shop, some of the singles are well past their prime.

Aside from getting a couple old beers, the service was fantastic. The guys working there have a passion for beer and were incredibly friendly. The selection was as good as it gets in Northern MN with about 400 different beers. I grabbed a couple WI beers unavailable in the cities from Ashland (South Shore) and Black River Falls (Sandy Creek).

Warehouse has the best selections of singles you can get in the twin ports. Price is on the steep side though in my opinion. The big reason I go there though is to get beers that I can't get anywhere else. Staff is pretty knowledgeable regarding beer.

About the beer...They have four shelves total of just singles and a barrel for bargain singles. 2 Shelves hold domestic micros, 1 shelf for English and Belgians and another shelf for mostly Germans and a few Japanese beers. They also have 3 more shelves towards the back with just 6 packs of micros 2 for American and 1 for English and Canadian (unibroue). They have a smaller (not small) selection of micros stored in coolers at the back. The lighting is pretty dim so lightstrike risk is slightly less.

Overall, a pretty good store for singles but be prepared to pay more.

There were quite a few imports that I had never heard of and a good collection of big bottles, too. The staff seemed knowledgable about beer, although, I didn't ask them any questions. Best selection of beer in Duluth, hands down. Unfortunately, the prices run a little high and the beer sits on the shelf for a while. The guys are very friendly and you can get plenty of singles. Unfortunately, there really aren’t any heavy hitting beers in the stores, especially in terms of Belgians. But, the regional selections aren’t bad.

There are some nice finds from time to time, including Bells. There's a "cellar" sometimes, from which comes things like Oatmeal Stout, Trumpeter Stout, Susie's Sweet Stout and such. When and where they come from, I don't know. The bargain bucket has some nice finds (a well-aged Victory Moonglow which was outtasite). They have a good diversity of American Micros, and decent local stuff.

So this is where they keep all the good beer in Duluth! What a selection! They have remodeled the place since I was there last and they’ve moved all of their beer up front so you can’t miss it. Their selection is impressive. If you consider where the next liquor store of this caliber is, it is down right amazing. I was startled to see Avery here and not in any other store in Duluth or Superior. They also had the big stone bottles of Rogue in some varieties I haven’t seen any where else. Also, they had a great representation of locals from MN and WI and the staples from the coasts. Truly a marvelous selection that forced my hand into buying a little more than I had expected to. The store also has a good selection of whiskey. From previous encounters, the guy behind the counter knew a lot about whiskey and today he knew a fair deal about beer. He was more than happy to chat with us about our selections. It was nice that the beer was right across from the counter, so we didn’t need to track down a cart, or have to look far for help. Great place to buy beer in the north woods. Nice stop on the way to the Boundary Waters in northern Minnesota. Easy to find in Duluth, near the mall area. Just head up the hill towards the mall. You can find them at two sets of lights after mcdonalds on the corner on the left. The store offers 300 - 400 kinds of micro and import beers by the bottle or six packs or case. They do beer in store tastings, usually every week.
Great selection! Clerks are very helpful and interested in beer. They are a small, locally owned store and always have one of the full time guys to show you around.
