0,5l bottle dated 21.06.23 for about €1 picked up at Heinrich’s Super Beverage Store 3000 just outside of Stuttgart during a proper German bier run. Kolsch section was small and I was about to pass it by but thanks to BA I looked up the style and saw that this was the best in all of Germany! Excited to visit the brewery when I make it up to Köln one day, as this is the real deal. Rated for the style, it’s a huge score.
Pours clear with a fluffy white head and more of a golden amber color compared to a Helles. Incredibly refreshing flavor and feel, with lots of floral and fruity hops and sweet malt throughout. Dangerously crushable. Can absolutely see this becoming a staple during the summer!
Update: made it to the brewpub in Köln. Amazing how different each beer can be within the same style. This one is much sweeter than others, in a good way, and very unique. Helps you understand why this place is special and well-known. A truly delicious beer that is easily consumed in large quantities (although .2 liters at a time)!

Not sure why, but this was my least favorite Kolsch I had in Germany. I'd like to try it again one day though to see if my bottle was just old or something.

My favorite kolsch. Had it at Brauerei Zurich Malzmuhle, Cologne while on tour in Europe. I have acquired a renewed taste for kolsch while in Cologne. I will look for it in the states.

Brauerei zur Malzmühle “Kölsch”
€1,90/,2L vom fass at the brewery on 26.09.21
Look: Crystal clear gold body beneath a standard head of bright white foam. Both the head retention and lacing are very good, and it leaves long splashes of lacing about the glass.
Smell: Clean. Fruity with apple. Grainy malt.
Taste: As the aroma suggests but fruitier over the base malt. Limited herbal hops. A stiff to firm bitterness anchors it and it finishes dry with some bitterness lingering for a moment or so.
Feel: Medium bodied and gently crisp with a seemingly natural, fine-bubbled carbonation.
Overall: Refreshing and highly drinkable.

Best enjoyed from a Kölsch glass, this beer is the epitomy of drinkable that consits of the perfect balance of sweet and bitter. I always notice a small hint of wheat in the first couple sips which seperates it in the taste category from many of its competiors. This beer truly does have one of the more unique tastes of any of the Kölsch beers that I've tried. With a good head retention and golden straw color, you can really notice the freshness of this beer. I have never seen it for sale outside of the Cologne Metro area, but if you are ever there, definitely give it a try.
Prost
