I seek this out for the shelves of my beer pantry. This is a consistently great IPA. To just pop the cap off the bottle and take in the aroma makes me want to purr like a cat. I went out and bought a Blue Point pint glass specifically to enjoy this in. I like it's color and weight and consistent taste and aftertaste. I particularly enjoy this paired with dark chocolate or salty snacks. Of all of the Blue point product line this is an absolute winner for me. One of my top IPA choices.

Hoptical Illusion is an IPA that finally does not leave you wondering why someone would have drunken a beer with this much hop bitterness in it! This beer pours with a golden color and leaves a white head that stays at about 1/4" from start to stop. The nose has a strong hop aroma as an IPA should and is indicative more spicy varieties of hops. The taste is something to savor. The beginning of your first sip strikes the nose with a burst of spicy hops and hits the front of the tongue with its IPA bitterness. As you pull the glass away from your lips, the aroma slowly dissipates leaving a distinct hop taste that reveals a subtle malty flavor. This beer has an excellent mouthfeel that is not thick or thin, but just right. Very drinkable, very hoppy, very good.

I just poured this out of a cask and it looks like crap. It looks flat...BUT IT'S NOT! It's cold out of the cask and it's delish. maybe I am bias cause I am a Long Island guy but this could be one of the greatest moments of my life. I am going to be at the Blue Point cask festival this month, can't tell you how hoppy I am.

Pours a golden yellow color with a thick white head. Appears a little lighter in color than most IPAs. Good nose full of hops, grapefruit, and pine. Taste is very smooth and hits you with creamy grapefruit and hop bitterness up front. A mildy lingering finish of hoppy pine and citrus. This is a really drinkable IPA, just the right amount of hops in here to have a bunch of pints but with still a lot of flavor. I love this.

Think I found my favorite beer from a local brewer. Poured into my glass with a nice head. Aroma was great. Big heavy nice citrus fruit. Even spicy like peppers. Wow. Taste was knockout slamming your palate with real flavor. Lots of good spice and bitterness here. Before I knew it the whole bottle was gone. Wow what a good beer. I am going back for more. This is my favorite beer so far from this local brewer.

Great tasting. Delivers hops as promised balanced nicely with high alcohol content. Really enjoyed drinking this one at the pier 97 blues festival (high alcohol content really got me grooving too).

12 oz. bottle poured into a chilled mug

Appearance--Golden copper with a slight foamy white head.

Smell--Citrus present in smell, but not overly present. Hops give it nice balance.

Taste--Brilliant balancing of bitterness and fruitiness make this brew very enjoyable. Hops also a strong characteristic (hence the name of the beer). Good medium finish.

Mouthfeel--Very good, crisp aftertaste. Hints of fruit and hops present.

Drinkability--Definitely worth having over and over again.

Overall, a very enjoyable and easy-to-drink beer, especially for an IPA. I'd highly recommend it to anyone interested in trying an IPA.

I've been drinking this for a couple months now. It's definitely my staple beer. I drink this more than anything. Now it's time to review it.

Pours a light amber / orange color, a bit hazy with a decent white head. Lacing sticks around for the life of the 12 oz.

Smells of big time hops with a bit of malt to back it up. Citrusy, piney, grapfruit....you know, big hops and all that comes with it.

The taste is awesome. Pretty much what I've been asking for in a hopheads brew. The hops are dominent with their piney floral citrusy flavours but you get some malt in the finish and some slight bitterness to balance everything out nicely. Very, very satisfying.

Trust me, it's drinkable. I drink them often, almost every day.

What can I say? I'ts my favorite beer right now. I love it!! Find it. Drink it. Enjoy.

Before I opened this beer I saw that there was 202 reviews for this beer with a 100% approvial. Now thats a statement!!!

Apperance: Amber in color, slightly hazy with a thick white head lasting awhile

Aroma: OH GOD!!!! This beer is just full of sweet and floral hop aroma...thats all.

Flavor: The malt is sweet but kinda hard to find over all the hops. The bitterness is just perfect with a earthy flavor but soon followed by a strong sweet hop flavor just as you would expect from the aroma

Mouthfeel: Mildly carbonated with hop oils lingering allover your mouth. This beer is far from balanced but this much hops they brewers did a great job.

Overall: This beer is great!!! Seems fairly light but at 6.2% this beer is packed with tons of flavors. Well done.

Bluepoint has some awesome beers and this is no exception. Being a huge IPA fan I had to try it.

It poured a nice light, golden color with a 2 finger, bubbly head. The lacing was decent as well.

The smell was of citrus and malt.

The taste was very similar to the smell with a powerful and delicious grapefruit flavor. You could also really taste those hops too.

Mouthfeel was light and refreshing without being weak. The beer has some definite substance.

This is a great, refreshing beer perfect for a summer afternoon. It's a beer that shouldn't be missed!

Poured from a regular 12oz. brown bottle into a Duvel Tulip glass. It poured golden brown in color, with a little haze in it, had a one finger head and winded down after 5 minutes leaving a ring around the liquid. decent amound of lacing.
Smell is a very rich mix of Citris, Fruit mabye, and surely Hops.. very nice aroma
This beer has an exceptionally Exquisit flavor, the first wave is citrisy and hoppy and in my opinion quite delightful. after the Citris and hops taste there is an intriging bitterness on your tounge, which is really quite right for this beer.. the aftertaste is bitter with a dry hop feel in the back of your mouth and throat. This is again quite delightful. Amazing taste.
The mouthfeel is just right. Again there is that bitterness on your though, which is porweful, but not overwelming, the carbination is just right.
Drinkability is a most definate, without a doubt. I am getting a case of this beer ASAP..!

This beer reminds of golden skies, partly cloudy. The sharp hop nose catches you buy surprise by its sheer intensity. The flavour offered a citrus, hop, pinapple punch, that was well balanced. Mouth-feel was hoppy and smooth. I had to drive to Buffalo to find this one, and it looks like I'm going back.

This poured a slightly cloudy orange with a touch of head, a bit of lacing. Smell is great, straight piney hops, very prominent, not watered down and very straightforward, just like the flavor, pure hop goodness. Flavor is much the same, a very straightforward unapologetic hop aroma through and through. Aftertaste in this however stays quite subdued and finishes clean. What makes this one special is that it has all the beautiful tasty hoppy qualities of an IPA, with the drinkability of water.

Blue Point brewed a winner with this one. Definitely recommended.

Poured a beautiful orange-amber, with a moderate head and decent retention. Smell is a nice balance of citrus and piney hops, with spicy notes of pepper and allspice. Taste is bright, with some maltiness up front, and a long, bitter finish. Primarily citrusy hops, but not the overpowering grapefruit taste you get with some American IPAs; this is a balance of citrus with pine and vegetal notes. The bitter finish is balanced by a bit of sweetness. A delicious beer, one I will drink a few more times!

Hand pulled pint at Pizza Plant. Listed as "Blue Point IPA" so I assume that this is the one. Poured a hazy golden orange with a thick, creamy head. Lots of lacing. Grapefruit hop aroma. Taste starts off sweet with fruity hop bitterness taking over for a balanced finish. As is often the case with cask beer, the mouthfeel is very smooth and the beer is very drinkable due to lower carbonation levels and somewhat higher serving temperature.

Poured from a bottle into a standard pint glass.

A: Light orange with a golden hue. Looks like honey.

S: Unbelievable aroma in this one, possibly the best beer I've smelled. Hardly smells like beer. I get big time notes of honey, citrus hops, cracker malt, flowers and light fruit. Fragrant but not overpowering, this one smells wonderful. 5 stars all the way.

T: Follows the smell pretty much to a T. Honey, malt, and a citrus hop hint that is complimentary, not overpowering. A faint trace of grains in the finish and absolutely nothing bitter happening at all.

D: Easily polishing off a sixer with this beer.

Value: This is a first class beer at a reasonable price, can't go wrong here.

Picked up a sixer, while enjoying my staycation-1st IPA I've had from the wonderful city
of Long Island, lets give her a go.

Appearance: Great tropical backdrop with some carmelized hue, great head retention, checking the label for an "optical illusion" nil..so far, so good.

Smell: That distinctive IPA scent, maybe more so an APA, but with a slight candied citrus hop smack to your nostrils.

Taste: Caramel malt/ pineapple citrusy backdrop/ Not a huge hop presence, but enough to foot the bill as a sessional IPA. I'd like to try this on tap.

Mouthfeel: Medium carbonation meets oxidized Hop phenols.

Drinkability: A great fallback IPA if Smutty FinestKind isn't on the scene.

Welcome to Florida BluePoint!

Tried this one on the recommendation of George over at Westy's. Pours a golden copper with a nice 1" white lumpy head. Great lacing and nice level of carbonation. The smell is hops, hops and more hops with a floral citrus edge to it, but it's not overpowering, just the right amount. Taste also shows the citrus hops but dosen't leave an overly bitter aftertaste. Medium bodied and smooth on the pallate. This is one of my new favorites, i will be buying more of this. The cool name and label add to the experience.

I got a 6-pack of this product from a Baltimore brewer friend and have been thoroughly enjoying each of the bottles. This IPA pours an orangy gold with a fine and lasting creamy head. Great citrus aroma hits you right away. Definitely hoppy but also well balanced unlike some of the more extreme IPA's I've tried. Crisp, dry finish. Frankly, I can't come up with anything negative about this product.

I've only had the opportunity to try 2 Blue Point products, both bottled by Clipper City, and thought both were superior products. Maybe some day they'll be distributed nearer my home area. If so, they'll have a regular spot in my refrigerator along with my favorite local micros.

Comes out of the tap a hazy dark amber with a fine-bubbled pale tan head. Tempting as everything! Rich, hoppy aroma has a malty underpinning and a good fruity note. Generously hoppy flavor has a nice fruity and malty undertone; bitterness is not minimal, but not ferocious either. Got some woody, apple and grapefruit notes in there plus a hint of fresh-cut pine. Body is firm, and fizz is quite lively and persistent. Another must for IPA fanatics!

A=Light golden with small head that fades rather fast, leaving moderate lacing.Very light for an IPA. Too light in color,H&L for the style.

S&T=Hops do come through, with some good malt balance. The hops are there and noticeable, so it is very satisfying, maybe not the best IPA, but will satisfy any hophead and IPA fan like me.

M=average IPA body. Average carbonation. So good.

An instant session IPA, to have more than a few overnight. Quality IPA, but then again what standard-meeting IPA isn't??

Will buy again, if I see it. Just the name alone is an incentive for me.

On tap at Burdick's in Kalamazoo while watching Thanksgiving football with the gf's family.

Pours a nice orange with a small white head that left some lacing down the glass.

Smells of citrus and piney hops. Malts shine through a bit, but definitely hop forward.

Immediately am hit with a good mix of a citrus and pine bite. Rounds into just a touch of malty sweetness in the middle before finishing resiny and dry.

Enough malt to kick the mouthfeel up a notch and good carbonation.

The perfect beer to wash down all the turkey and rhubarb pie. Resembles a good old West Coast style IPA. I'm curious to try this from a bottle sometime to see if the flavors hold up. It seems like something that may fade pretty quickly.

*edit 6/12/12* Had it out of a bottle last week. Still delicious. Now if only they'd distribute here.

Overall it was just a very good beer.

Poured from a bottle it stood with little head retention and a translucent off orange tone.

It smelled of hops and sweet fruits, partialy figs and somewhat apricots for some strange reason.

The taste was exceptional and deep. The hops bleneded nicely together with the beer and served as a conduit into deeper flavors as the beer lingered on your pallet, past the initial taste. I got notes of oak and pine, along with the hops and ethanol burn, with a slight pitch of gratefruit coming in with the oak. It was more then a pleasure to keep it on my pallette for as long as possible. The carbonation was light and it was just an overal positive experience.

The beer is not very heavy and has an extremley good flavor, it leaves you very refreshed after drinking it. I would reccomnd lemon seared tuna or light pultry to accompany this.

This is by far the best offering that this brewery has put out. This is my favorite beer this Fall season. I usually live on SN Celebration Ale this time of year, but this IPA has become my new favorite. The bottle emits a wonderful aroma upon uncapping. I don't think it's a Cascade aroma. Smells like Columbus hops. A nice full mouthfeel and not to bitter. Excellent drinkability, as I had no problem polishing off a sixer in a night. I've drank virtually every IPA on the market and have to say that at $8.00 a six pack(including tax and deposit) this beer is an absolute steal. Blue Point has a winner with this beer.
