Style: American Amber / Red Lager

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our flagship and most popular brew, Toasted Lager is the best American Amber Lager you’ll ever taste.

To back up that claim, we use six different grains to perfect a balanced flavor of malt and hops, and a special proprietary lager yeast to give Toasted Lager an exceptional, long-lasting smooth finish that’s meant to be enjoyed year-round. Pairs perfectly with fresh seafood...or any food for that matter.

The color is a clear, coppery dark orange. The head is airy and foamy but settles in nicely at just more than half a finger. It's slow to fade and not too hesitant to drop down both spotting and patching moderately.
I expect to smell much more out of an award-winning beer, but both times I try this beer I strain myself to get much. What I do get is mildly toasty, as expected, with a bit of caramel, grains, and a hint of grass.
Fruits and earth are strongest in the flavor, and the toast doesn't seem to be the focal point. It does have some, mingling with a bread crust taste, then grass and herb with more grains and a very slight astringency.
It's easy-drinking and fairly clean, though not completely, in a firm medium body. It's moderately smooth and very crisp. Dryness continues to build off the grains and a certain huskiness, but never too heavily.
It's a pretty good beer, but I can only say that if this is the same beer that was given a number of medals, there may have been a lack of competition. There are too many good, flavorful ambers now for one so light in aroma and flavor to compete.
