Delayed PilsnerDelayed Pilsner
Notes: Brewed with a blend of floral, spicy hops for subtle apple and lemon-lime aroma, Delayed Pilsner is balanced by slight honey notes from a creamy malt body—a crisp, refreshing pils with just the right amount of bitterness to keep you critical of travel delays.

Only available at Penn Station for us long suffering LIRR commuters.

Pours a clear honey straw color with a small wispy white head. A shade or two darker than most pilsners.

The aroma is grassy with a slight fruit note. Subtle grain with a hint of pepper.

The taste is of a dry cracker like malt and grassy hops. Some honey from the malt and some spice from the hops. Solid pilsner flavor.

The feel is light and dry with tingly carbonation. Slightly bitter. Drinks quite easy with a clean finish.

A decent pilsner. Nothing fantastic but drinks very nice.

This is a really nice pilsner that I was surprised to find fresh (stamped Feb 19 on the bottom) while on vacation visiting family for the holidays on Long Island. Maybe it has been un-retired, but I am not sure. Attractive in the traditional way and featuring a mild spice note to the nose. Flavors are broad wheat and cracker throughout the front of the sip and a finish dominated by noble hops. Surprisingly flavorful at spots, but finishing dry.

A: The beer is crystal clear golden yellow in color and poured with a half finger high white head that died down, leaving only specks of lacing on the surface and a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of cracker malts are present in the nose along with hints of grassy hops and apple esters.
T: The taste follows the smell, but seems to have more in the way of grassy hop flavors along with notes of cracker malts and a light to moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This pilsener has a nice grassy "bite" to it, which helps to take some of the edge off the stress you may feel commuting through New York's Penn Station. It's too bad they don't offer this on the beer carts on the LIRR trains.

Blue Point Delayed Pilsner seems to be resurrected: a16 oz can expiration date 25 Dec. 2018 was purchased at a grocery on Long Island, NY, on Dec. 2 for $6.69 a 4-pack of 16 oz. cans. The can indicates it was produced in Patchogue (probably at their new brewery?) It was sampled from a simple glass at about 50F. The beer has a medium gold color and a definite haze.

The head is very substantial, fairly long lasting, and leaves a lot of lacing on the glass. The mouthfeel is fairly smooth. These properties might be due to the presence of wheat.

The flavor approximates the general character of malty mid-sixties American lagers (vintage Pabst Blue Ribbon might be a comparison). There is a sweet malt body with just enough hop character. I didn't detect much of the citrus hop flavor promised in the description. That's a good thing, from my point of view.

I would call Delayed Pilsner a pretty good "throwback" beer. It reminds me that I could enjoy a good modest (and cheap) American Lager in the old days. Greenport Harbor Tidal Lager is another modern example of a throwback beer.

Poured from a can into a glass. Pours copper and almost entirely clear. Aroma is mild and malty. Tastes melanoidin-y with a some malty sweetness and moderate bitterness. Hops not very prominent. Medium body. Decent option but I'd like more hop finishing.

16 ounce can best bu date of Sept/2020. Looks golden, and the nose is grains, some lemony hops, and pale malts. Taste is similar but I'm getting more sweetness and a slight touch of citrus on the finish, which is on the dry side with a light mouthfeel. This drinks like a four percent beer. Hard to believe it clocks in at 5.8%. Not as spicy as other German pilsners, but it's quite flavorful. Much more so than their Pinstripe Pilsner.

Sampling a cold 16 oz can poured into my mug. The beer pours a bright clear golden hue with minimal bleached white, densely packed head foaming up. The foam remains as a sturdy edge layer and some wispy islands on the surface.
Can says best by Sept 2020
Aroma is mild with some grassy notes and a bit of spiciness too. I get hints of cracker too, but overall the aroma is more faint than I had hoped but is fine for the style.
First sip reveals a light and crisp textured body with very fine and tingly carbonation. Beer drinks very easy, which also works for the style and this humid evening.
Flavor is a bit of grainy malt and then a bit of a fruity flavor like an apple or pear, this is very mild. The flavor next moves to hops with grass and a sweet floral note covering the finish.
Beer is drinkable and the fruit note surprises me the most here, although I think it works. Nothing outstanding about this brew, but no obvious flaws either.
