While birds of a feather stick together, their wings should not. We blew our cap seeing images of oilslick seabirds and thinking about what may happen to more of our fine, feathered-friends as they migrate south this fall, so we hatched this flighty idea for a specialty brew called 'Toxic Sludge'.
All of the proceeds will benefit Tri-State Bird Rescue & Research's "Spreading Our Wings" campaign and their efforts to build a Wildlife Response Annex. To learn more, please visit: www.tristatebird.org
In times of crisis (like this) we figure you can either hibernate or participate.
Try this tasty, dry-hopped black IPA. It's as smooth as water off a duck's back. So everytime you drink one, please let out a loud squawk in honor of our beautiful, beaked brethen.
We hope you can dig deep in your hearts (and pockets) to help support the effort.
Be Well,
Mark & Pete

Pours a dark mahogany brown where only the brightest of light can pass through the center on the glass. Ample beige head which leaves a web of lace.
Dark, burnt toast aroma. Light lactose and unsweetened cocoa to the nose as well.
Lots of black patent malt to start the taste. The bitter swallow comes mostly from this but I get a touch of hop bitterness as well. The aftertaste I would describe as unsweetened cocoa. Lots of carbonation with a moderate body. Overall, a dry and bitter dark ale that doesn't give one all the elements of a black IPA.

The beer comes in a deep brown color.
The beer offers resiny hops up front, fresh pine, hints of grapefruit peel, hints of black coffee and bittersweet chocolate. The mouthfeel is smooth with a medium texture. The bitterness is medium to medium plus with some lingering leafy green flavors complimented by medium minus malty sweetness.

Poured out of a pint can. A tar-like appearance yields a hoppy, citrus flavor with a strong malt backbone. Somewhat sweeter than I was expecting, but solid overall

It was more of a dark reddish color than an IPA and the taste was not what you would expect from and IPA.
