I visited this place on three occasions while on a weekend in Cologne (End of November 2010). The first occasion was when my wife and I went in during the day just for a couple of kolsch. The kobe was pleasent and efficient. This experience encouraged me to go back there with another couple for lunch and dinner (with beer, of course). The food was excellent. but the place can get very busy on weekend nights, and prebooking is advised. This is done with your waiter, and you ask for him when going there at the appointed hour.

The place itself is a beautiful interior with plenty of wood and a beautiful stained glass ceiling in the second room. This is a must visit in Cologne.

I loved this place. It manages to capture Koln for me. It is traditional but not stuffy.

We sat inside and the interior is beautiful. There is nice wood, classic old windows and window seats, pillars, multiple rooms, etc.

The service was very friendly and was good with food recommendations. The food was good and this was one of the best lunches I had on my trip.

The beer was good. Crisp, malty and oh so easy to drink.

I would be a regular here if this was my home base.

Peters Brauhaus is probably the most centralized of the Kölsch breweries in the old city, south of Gaffel, Früh, and Sion (but only by just about a half of a block), and north of Malzmühle, Sünner, and Pfaffen. Interestingly enough, it doesn't seem to get as much attention as the others, except during dinner.

It's in a beautiful building on a beautiful street, and the inside is quite nice as well. It has the usual German feel with wood floors, all wood tables and chairs, and wood paneled walls as well as chandeliers, old paintings, old photos, and a stained glass ceiling. It really is one of the more comfortable places to enjoy a meal.

As is normally the case there’s only one beer but their Kölsch is very good. As of October 2021 it cost 2.10€ per glass.

The menu is typically German with items such as potato soup (6.20€), pork schnitzel (17.30€), pork knuckle (18.90€), and pork medallions (22.90€ - the most expensive item on the menu). Did anyone say pork? There are salads, of course, and a few other non-German items but for most Americans the menu may seem limited. The food is very good though, and if you’d like to enjoy dinner you should make reservations early as it’s very popular with locals and it fills up quickly.

Although I'll certainly suggest that you make it a must-see I also understand that not everyone has a lot of time, and each of the different breweries has its own merits. Pfaffgen is also beautiful and comfortable, Gaffel has a more open bierhall feel, and Früh feels almost ancient. Enjoy!

More out of the way than Fruh, but still very much in the tourist area, it was crowded on a Tuesday night. Pretty standard German beer hall, lots of wood, steins on shelves, etc, not as striking as Fruh, but still a neat place. The selection was limited, as expected, but the beer is good. Probably my least favorite of the three kolsch houses we visited, but still well worth while.

Didnt manage to go into the brewhouse so this review is based on the beer garden around the corner on the Alter Markt.

Location is in a corner on the square covered by overhanging leafy trees and umbrellas giving a nice shady spot in the sun.

The area was quiet and sleepy with the occasional stag do wandering by or sitting down for a few Kolsch.

Service was slow to be honest, i dont think the Kobes noticed us as we sat down as we waited 10 mins or so for a beer, but once ordered it was very efficient.

Only Peters Kolsch available along with Schofferhoffer hefe-weizen.Definitely not the best Kolsch but was fresh.

Didnt try the food nor see anyone else partaking!

A nice location to sit and have a sleepy afternoon but otherwise better places to frequent.

Will definitely go into the pub next time!

Stop number 3 on a Kolsch bar-hop through the center of Cologne. We didn't enter the brauhaus, so this review is based on what I'll term the beer garden in front.

There were shady tables with seating for maybe 150 people, very comfortable at the end of a long day of travel. The servers were extremely fast, and although we only ordered beers I saw that the food menu looked extensive. It included all the great classics, pork knuckle included.

The Kolsch was surprisingly good. I'll leave my decriptions of the beer to the beer review, but I'll say here that it's a great reason to come to this particular brauhaus. Among the best I tried while in Cologne.

This was the first place I visited after arriving in Cologne. The food was good - we had Pork knuckle with sauerkraut and mash. The Kolsch was a shock to begin with, but it was first experience with kolsch vom fass, so I soon got used to it and found it quite nice.

The place is your typical beer hall type arrangement with some nice lights and decorations for the current carnival going on in the city (clown related?)

Solid, but nothing exceptional to make it a stand out. I would definitely go back in if I was passing.

The food here was exactly what we were looking for...meat and potatoes cooked perfectly. I ordered the Brauhaus-Teller which is two veal schitzels served with fried potatoes and my girlfriend got a Bratwurst with Potato Salad. All of the food was extremely delicious and I would definitely go there again. Their only beer is their Kolsch, which is the standard for all brewpubs there. It is served in very small .2L glasses and is very light and refreshing and went well with the meal. The waiter was extremely helpful and spoke English very well.

Has a real old world feel to the place, lots of dark wood, ancient decorations, beautful chandeliers. The menu consisted of lots of boiled meats and vegetables, if you want to play it on the safe side, order the Brauhaus-Teller, two pork schnitzels served with a salad and some home fries. There is only one beer here, the kolsch. If you're in Koln, you're drinking kolsch, and you could do a lot worse than Peters. The waitstaff is helpful and generally speaks English. This is a bit of a tourist stop. The locals stick to one of the many many other local bars for the most part, but they drink here too. Overall, a traditional German brauhaus experience with good beer, good food, and a great atmosphere.

One of the most 'up-market' by external appearance of brew houses in Cologne, though once inside you realise it is relaxed and easy going as most of the other brewery bars. Service was about standard for Cologne, efficient, and the guy who served us was fairly friendly and spoke to us in English. The Peters Kolsch is not one of the best, but good non-the-less, medium dry, clean and fresh, but not outstanding as one or two are.

Interesting interior with the usual bare wooden tables, and one room at the rear has an interesting ceiling worth looking at.

Definately worth a visit when in Cologne, unless you only have time to visit three Brewery Bars, in which case Malzmuhle, Paffgen and Paffen are the ones to enjoy!

From the outside, the place almost looks like a palace and makes you reluctant to enter just for a beer. Once inside, you find yourself in a rustic German restaurant, with a 100% wood decoration, many paintings on the wall, a small souvenir shop on the right next to the kitchen, and a nice if not cheesy colored glass ceiling in one of the rooms on the left. The long wooden tables make the place quite convivial. I ate there, and got pretty happy with my sausages. The waiter I got was maybe the nicest I got in Köln; not that he was super friendly, but very good for Köln… The crowd seemed to be a mix of locals, business people and tourists. Not fancy, pretty low-key, a nice place to relax.

Peters Kölsch is not my favorite of the bunch, yet Peters Brauhaus, right adjacent to the old market square in Cologne serves up a great atmosphere and very good regional (and some not so regional) cooking. All this in various pleasantly designed areas within the building (although a rather new place, they have succeeded in its design I think). And service in my experience (three visits) has been also good to boot. In my visits (3 total), there have always been quite the number of wiaters (Köbes) to go around; a good thing, too, since this place is fairly huge.

On my last visit, I enjoyed a relaxed lunch, starting with an obligatory five or so beers (ie: .2 L Stange glasses). I started my solids with a "Halver Hahn." A regional snack, this consists of local mild cheese and a crunchy roll served with butter (!) and NOT something of a half-chicken variety or other (gotta love their food slang). Although it sounds simple enough, you do not eat it like a sandwich (unless you want suspicious looks directed your way). No, indeed one must slice the roll with the knife, then proceed to butter each half on the plate, also some obligatory mustard, then divide the cheese atop the two halves. Then you use a fork and knife to eat. Really.

After more beers, I ordered a very tasty dish which basically consisted of a bowl in which beans and thick bacon were simmered in a mildly-spiced brown sauce. My brother also partook. Yummy. And, yes, a spoon, knife and fork did suffice...
Prost!

Very professionally run.

Like any Kölsch brewpub or bar it is completely seat yourself but if one feels akward wandering the vast area this brewpub/restaurant covers (believe me, its huge) one can go to any 'kerbie' (waiter) and ask if he knows of any free tables. They'll quickly show/tell you where and get back to their work. They bust their butts, but its not atypical for a Kölsch brewpub. I really tip my hat to their employees. Once seated beer is served almost in a ritual like fashion. Nod your head and bamm another beer. Food is order by number (especially if your german isnt so good) in order to specify better what the customer wants. Note I didnt order food on this visit but had watched the process a few times.

Selection of course is limited to house beers which without surprise is solely Kölsch. There is a small wine list and small top shelf liquor list as well. None the less they offer quite a few Kölsch mixes to liven up any monatny (sp) that may come about.

Atmosphere is typical of Kölsch brewpubs. Its meticulously kept and designed. Though it is a newer building its decor would fool anyone. The whole ole Kölsch decor is there. Wood tables, wood this and that, and traditionally dressed waiters. Also old pictures of the original business cover the walls. Cool place.
