Appearance is very pleasant, open and clean. Been here a few times and the service is always good. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and courteous. The beer selection is decent. I've had most of their brews and they are just OK, nothing special but certainly not bad. Beer flights are a great way to go here. The food is pretty good, the burgers are probably the best thing on the menu. Prices are good for this part of New York City.

I stopped here for lunch on a Thursday. The place is large, so even with a decent sized crowd we had no problem finding seats at the bar.

As you enter there is a hostess station. The L shaped bar is to your left and multiple dining areas off to your right. The tanks are also on display in the dining area. There is lots of dark wood and older brewery memorabilia on display. The bathrooms are downstairs.

The bartender was pleasant and pretty spot on for service. He was able to offer suggestions on the house beers so that is always nice to see.

Speaking of beers, they had 6 regulars and two specials. The specials were a DIPA and a Black lager. I liked what I had and really enjoyed the oatmeal stout on nitro.

The food was decent with the burgers drawing the biggest raves.

Prices seemed about right considering the neighborhood. Pints were $8 and a sampler of 5 was $15. They offer happy hour with $2 off the pints, so that maybe the best time to go.

This is an old school brewpub. I enjoyed my visit here.

Had a Bachelor party here. The staff was great; they roped off a part of the bar just for us. Of course I called ahead. The bartender was very knowledgeable and helped pair us with the right beer. They have a great selection of beer and if you can't decide you can always have a flight. Great place to go just to hang out.

Visited this brewpub at noon on a Friday, during a little family trip to the City. Nice atmosphere...upscale, clean, and attractive. We didn't have to wait for a table, and the service was prompt, friendly, and attentive. The beer was average. I had a red lager, which was clean and flavorful. The stout was disappointing. Food was pricy, but reasonable for City standards. It was average pub fare, and not spectacular.

Not as crowded and noisy as the union square location. Was able to get seated right away in a nice private booth. Waiter was prompt and courteous. He was quick to bring us our beers and take our food order. Tex mex nachos were very good. Only complaint is they could have had more cheese. But no big deal. Had the Indiana pale ale and the seasonal Not Tonight Honey porter. Both were delicious.

Went here for dinner before a show. Made reservations ahead of time so we did not have to wait. Large open room with breweriania on the walls. Service was slow and kept taken food to wrong tables. Beer selection was a wide range of styles. I had a flight od their stuff always on. Beer was ok, the stout and red lager were the best. The light lager was un drinkable and eberything else was bland.

Food was mostly steaks and burgers. My and my wife both got steaks. Mine was over cooked and just generally disappointing.

As far as cost, it was about average for Nyc, but with the other dings on food and quality, it is over expensive. Will not return.

This macro/brewpub is right near Times Square
and my family and I decided to rest our feet
and grab a few pints.

The decor is nice, upscale, clean, friendly.

The service was a little slow considering it wasn't very crowded.

My wife and I ordered 2 pints (her: Pumpkin + me: IPA)
I ended drinking all of mine and most of hers. They were
very thin and bubbly, a bit disappointed.

Our family ordered dessert, which was quite good.

This is not a must visit location and beer nerds/snobs
will be disappointed. Great place for a newbie to craft beers.

Six locations in NYC. Out of the three I've been to, my favorite is the Chophouse at Times Square (43rd between B'way & 6th). Classy joint, nice casual atmosphere, lots of tasty homebrewed beer, pleasant seasonals, and good good food. I'd imagine that really serious beer pursuers wouldn't bother with this place too much, but I think it's definitely worth hitting up when you're in the city, and I go there very often. They make a mighty good bison steak at the Chophouse. Other tasty entrees include the meatloaf and the mushroom or lobster ravioli. A little on the pricey side, but not too bad. Friendly staff.

Pleasant enough dining area with its selection of light inoffensive beers. Bright and well lit up by signs. Conveneinet location. Nothing special on tap in the seasonal department, one does not go out of their way for th beer here. Did have something brewed with thyme as a seasonal that had a minimum of my interest, outside of their regular so-so beers all served a bit overcarbonated. Occasionally Heartland will bring out a higher abv seasonal, and then its worth a stop in. Even for the food, its fast and efficient service but nothing to write home about.

I've been to this Heartland many times, as it is close to my house and right across to what used to be my workplace.

All Heartland locations are touristy, overpriced and just plain average. They're OK if you're visiting New York, or if you're with a large group of friends or coworkers during happy hour.

But otherwise, there are better places out there than this so-called "brewery" with an acceptable (but not great) selection of staple beers (IPA, Stout, Red Ale, Light, Lager) at outrageously high prices.

The occasional seasonals are the real deal, like the nice oatmeal stout, the Double IPA and the barleywine. Go for those if you can.

Service is fine (not great) and atmosphere is not bad for a chain restaurant. A bit generic but surprisingly cozy and warm.

Food is blah. Generic American pub food at high prices.

All in all, this feels like going to a TGI Friday's with beer in the heart of Times Square. Expect the expected.

I like HB Burger much better, just down the block from the main Heartland and specializing in tasty burgers. Beers are the same (if not better) and food is better, plus it is much less crowded than the Heartland "Chophouse". I should add HB Burger to BA soon.

Went to the Heartland Brewery in Times Square last Friday night. I was with a group of friends and we were scoping out a place to pre-game before going to a concert at the Best Buy Theater (formerly the Nokia Theater).

Before entering, one must take in the bustle and intensity of Times Square, especially during my visit which was in the early evening on a Friday night. The energy in the heart of Times Square is awesome. Heartland was fairly crowded when we arrived, but could have been worse considering the circumstances. Most of the people there seemed to be the after work crowd and tourists, to be expected for the location.

A long bar runs down the left side and curls around with an ample amount of bartenders ready to take your order. There is a huge open area to the right with a ton of tables for dining. We stayed in the open bar area. Atmosphere was pretty chill, dim lighting, breweriana decorations and dark wood.

Beers were solid. I started off with the Smiling Pumpkin Ale, which had some subtle ginger and nutmeg flavors. I also had their Oatmeal Stout (Farmer Jon's Oatmeal Stout) and their IPA (Indiana Pale Ale). All beers were fresh and tasty. Reasonable prices too.

Originally Reviewed on 12-14-2009, but I had the wrong location, so I'm switching it to this one, the right one, now.

****

After some time walking around the city, we stopped at the location in Times Square, which I'm not sure is the only location or not.

We went close to 2, so it was pretty packed, and it was a Saturday. That said, even though it was without stools, my wife and I found a spot near the end of the bar, somehow where no one was congregating. What impressed me here was the bartender who switched from pouring pints, to a Mojito, to a Bloody Mary, to a Shirley Temple, back to a pint, etc., without skipping a beat. He didn't need any kind of notepad, never got flustered, and seemed to get everything exactly right. Not only that, but he was extremely friendly and attentive in the chaos. I never would've imagined that kind of service at a place so packed, right in the middle of the city.

They had maybe 10 of their beers on tap, and I tried a few pints before I realized my wife and I could see THE ROAD, which opened around Thanksgiving for a limited release. The atmosphere, though packed, was good. Lots of people drinking beer, a lot at the bar, many waiting for tables. Decent music, nicely decorated, and it seemed like they had a vast menu if you were eating.

There are better places like this, but overall, I'd come back. I think pints were around $6, but considering the location, that really isn't too bad, and I thought the beer was pretty tasty.

Glad I got to go to a place like this right around Times Square, and I'd go back next time and maybe try to grab a booth and have some lunch also.

Heartland breweries are always very inviting places that are fun to see for the beer pariphanalia but, in general the beers aren't that great. There's a broad selection of styles but none really stand out

Their stout is probably the best for it's roasty character and none of the beers is too strong to dissuade first timers. This particular location had a double ipa, which was actually pretty impressive.

Food is a little better than typical pub fare at most of these places, but this place in particular has a slightly more upscale selection.

When we got there, the place was almost empty. We had some food and tried their seasonals. Beer was decent, but barely more than average. Service was not the best and food was way below average. My girlfriend's pasta was actually pretty bad and barely anything on the plate - even for a woman.

The beer selection seemed ok and I wish I had tried more of their beer, unfortunately, I didn't have more time to try more.

Went here on a recent trip to NYC.

A: Was a fairly chill place to go to and seemed like a nice place to hang out with some friends or to jsut go in, catch the game and have a few.

Q: The place itself seemed well kept and maintained. The bar and restaurant area were very clean. The Heartland beer quality seemed a little bit sub par, which was upsetting.

S: The service was pretty exceptional. When I went, there weren't too many people there, so the bartender was available to answer some questions about the brewery and what the brewery offers. While I was drinking my beers, I was offered some of their mixed drinks, which was typically one of their beers or a combination of them and some mixers.

S: The selection was ok. About 10 or 12 of Heartland's beers with 4 other craft bottles. Had the major macros on tap. Overall, I was not too impressed with the selection, but it was fairly decent.

The value of the place was fairly reasonable, especially for a brewery in the middle of Times Square in New York city. They had some samplers or 5 or 7 beers available consisting of 5 or 6 ounce glasses that seemed reasonably priced.

Stopped into the Heartland Brewery on 43rd after a quick brew and a bite to eat at BXL. The restaurant was alive and packed on a rainy Sunday afternoon. My buddy and I ordered the "Seasonal Voyage" 8 beer sampler. Out of the 8 brews presented I would probably only re-order 3 of them (Indiana Pale Ale, Harvest Wheat and one of their summer seasonals the Apricot Ale). My girlfriend did not drink and said the food was so-so. Our waiter was decently knowledgeable. No expert, but he was able to give his speech explaining the 8 beers without a hitch. The guy compared their Oatmeal stout to a Guinness though...huh? Just because its a stout does NOT mean a Guinness drinker would appreciate it, in fact i'd think the exact opposite... Would I go back? Sure. Would I call this a must go-to bar while in NYC? No way.

Stopped in the Heatland Brewery to grab an appetizer and the sampler. Frankly, I was disappointed with both. The chips and salsa were average at best. And, we had been told that was one of their signature items.

On to the beer... I had a hard time finding one in the sampler that I would have wanted to order in a full pint. And, for the Oatmeal Stout to have won several GABF Awards surpised me. I just didn't find that it had much character. The light and lager were barely drinkable. Probably the best was the IPA. Although I would not say that it was generously hopped.

If you are in NYC, skip Heartland and head to either the Ginger Man or Stout for a superior beer experience.

The wife and I wanted to grab some lunch and beers before we hit an afternoon Broadway show. This place was most logical since it was close to the theatre area.

Upon entering, the bar is located in front of you with a hostess station. The bar was relatively small with only fifteen stools and located right by the front door, so every time someone walked in you got a draft of cold air. The dining area is large with plenty of large booths and some tables. Some brewing kettles are visible from the dining area. Plenty of brewery signs line the walls.

The beer selection was decent - 8 in total. Cornhusker Lager, Indian River Light, Harvest Wheat, Indiana Pale Ale, Red Rooster, and Farmer John's Oatmeal Stout are the standard offerings. Two special beers were available- the Not Tonight Honey Porter and Buffalo Bock. We had several pints and each one was fresh but varied in flavor quality. Pints are $6.50 and a six 5 oz. sampler goes for $11.95.

Food wise they had standard pub fare with a special Buffalo menu with options like Buffalo burgers, Buffalo medallions, and Buffalo meat pies. The food we had was decent but not overly exciting.

Service was quick and friendly, but didn't exude beer knowledge.

This place is very similiar to any other Heartland Brewery in NYC, so if you are looking for a brewpub this will hit the spot.

The atmosphere is pretty good, there are plenty of tourists here, but friendly.
Quality is mediocre with about 8 taps, a decent selection of varieties.
The service is good, but do not expect most of the staff to be well-educated beer drinkers.
The food is the stand out here, very good bar food, exceptional burger and fries.
A good brewery with convenient locations.

A well lit steak-house atmosphere greets you after entering. Bar on the left, with tables on the right. I stopped in early in the evening on a Saturday, and it was getting pretty crowded. The service was acceptable for the amount of customers. The bartender was friendly (though he didn't know the name of the barleywine - I had to look at the menu for it.)

There were the six standard beers(nice variety) and two seasonals (one of which was out. The website needs to be updated (The winter beer I was looking forward to trying was already off the menu - but was available as their only bottled beer - which I did buy). I didn't try the food.

Pints were 6.50, half-pints 4.50 and 23 oz for 8.50. 11.95 for sampler (a couple bucks more to include seasonals/specials). Prices a bit higher for the Oatmeal Stout and seasonals.

The beers are the same at all locations - I'll save my review of the barleywine and the wheat that I brought back in a growler for the individual reviews. Overall, the beers are decent (mostly average to above average for what I've had).

I'll have to try the food there (as I do love steak) and report back in the future.

Went in for dinner last night before hitting the Nokia Theater for a concert. Have to say I was most impressed.

A - A Huge place with nice decor. Lots of nice woodwork. All different beer posters hanging up. Very cozy despite its size and the NYC buzz going on all around. Only sat at a table for dinner, and had to make it quick as our train was delayed. Can't wait to saddle on up to the bar and get cozy, and plan to after the holidays.

Ser - Haven't been to the bar yet, as noted, but the table service was excellent. Top notch waitress who was quick and attentive, despite the fact that we were a walk in table on a busy Friday night.

Sel - Seems nice. They have a Light Ale, American Lager, Belgian Wheat, Red Ale, IPA, and Oatmeal Stout on tap at all times and two seasonals. Gotta say that's a decent range of styles. They also have half pints in addition to pints, 23 ouncers and the sampler. I didn't go for half pints but it sounds like a great way to try a new beer, as sampler glasses are too small for the full experience and sometimes you don't want a pint of something you've never tried.

Qual - I had a pint each of the Red and the IPA. The Red was one of the nicest roasty reds I've ever tried. The IPA was good, not the best IPA ever but a nice as advertised grapefruity ale with some bitterness. I usually ALWAYS try any stout a brewpub offers after dinner but NJ Transit made my trip more rushed than most. I also took a sip of my girlfriend's wheat and it was nice.

Food - Food was fantastic. I had a great Cajun Rubbed/Blackened Ribeye. Came out with nice chunky mashed potatos. Buddy had the filtet mignon and said it was excellent which leads me right into value...

Value - excellent for NYC. Beers are pricey ($6 a pint) but that's pretty normal for the area, but the food is soooo reasonable. Not a menu item over $30. My steak was 23 bucks, which is ridiculous for such a top-notch piece of meat.

Overall - Can't wait to head back

Great location right off Times Square. Pretty typical Brewpub/Chophouse feel with a big bar to the left where I hung out.

Don't expect much in terms of service at the bar ... typical NY attitude where they expect you to be grateful you're being served while talking to their buddies about their latest sexual conquests. No effort made to chat much about the beers other than to tell me that all of their beers are brewed out in Brooklyn somewhere.

They only had about 6 beers on tap ... It think I skipped the Light lager and they were out of their Red Nose Seasonal (bummer). I had the Harvest Wheat, Rooster Red, Black Lager (seasonal), Indiana Pale Ale, and the Oatmeal Stout. All of them were very good. One of the few places where I rated every beer I tried at least a 4 or above.

A good place to stop for a few quality brews...

At first glance this place strikes me more as a chophouse that a brewpub but being right in the heart of Time Square I guess that is to be expected. There is a nice L shaped bar on your left and a good sized restaurant to the right. I took a seat at the bar and started to sample some of their beers. I got a pint of the Old Red Nose, the oatmeal stout, and 2 others. All the beers were good, not great. I also ordered a buffalo chicken app that was really good. The atmosphere was more of a NY bar not focused on beer but again that is probably based on the proximity to the heart of Time Square. I would say that if you are looking for a good craft brewed beer made in NY and you are near one of the Heartland Breweries, give it a try for a pint or 2.

The food is amazing, I've never been let down. The burger is fantastic for lunch, and I can always get a good steak. Their beers are great. As I tend to do with most places that offer their own beers, I start off with a sampler and usually pick one of them to stick with. The Oatmeal Stout is real tasty.

Service is prompt and professional.
