500ml bottle into goblet. "YR:2014". consumed on may 19, 2015. previously had a rating of 2.5 due to an infected bottle, so this is kind of a re-review

a: pitch black with a finger of creamed-coffee head that disappeared as i typed this sentence

s: dark chocolate, pine & grapefruit, alcohol, caramel, slight woody notes

t: roasted/burnt malts (bitter cocoa, charred wood, and slight black coffee) up front, backed by an earthy, citrusy, and piney hop presence mid-palate. finishes with cocoa-like bitterness. slight alcohol presence throughout

m: medium-ish mouthfeel -- thinner than expected but still not bad. little to no carbonation

o: a full-flavoured, super roasty imperial stout that could use a bit more work in the mouthfeel department

2013 vintage.

Very dark brown with amber brown highlights. 3/4 inch dark beige head. Few fine bubbles at the surface. Left lots of lacing in the glass.

Strong aroma of dark roasted grain. Sharp bitter chocoate with that Russian smell. Some creaminess to the aroma.

Full flavoured stout. Semi-sweet chocolate. Thick creamy taste. Nice herby hops at the end with the bitter roasted barley. Strong but smooth.

Full feel. Thick oily/creamy but no carbonation.

I cellared this a year and enjoyed it as a special stout on New Years Eve. And I have a 2014 bottle that will wait for next year.

Looks like a nice RIS, nothing exceptional on either side of the spectrum about it. Poured out to mild chocolate aroma, glass seems to transmit no smell beyond that.
Has that good oily texture in the mouth I expect from this style.

Tongue is left hanging a bit, instant coffee and roasty flavours, ending with bitter hops and an astringent feel. Mild sweetness if you let it hang around.
Solid, though typical RIS. For the price, I'll still be picking up Wellingston's RIS.

Draft, served in a snifter at Amsterdam BrewHouse.
Poured a pitch-black color, with a tall dark brown, foamy head. Good retention and leaving chunky lacing.
Aroma of roasted coffee, cocoa, dark chocolate.
Taste is of same roasted coffee, dark rich chocolate, slightly bitter to finish.
Body is quite full, with good carbonation keeps it smooth not bloating.
High alcohol is hidden, well balanced, very drinkable.
2 thumbs up.

Dark and bold! The beer pours a thick dark black with tan foam. It has a strong coffee and dark chocolate aroma. Taste is bitter with a warm spicy quality, mild coffee undertones and a sour fruity finish. Surprisingly smooth and creamy mouthfeel even though it is listed as 9% ABV. Another superb beer from Amsterdam, I always look forward to trying out their unique offerings.

Purchased at the LCBO for around $6.00 for a 500ml bottle. Served at 10deg C in a tulip

A- Opens well and pours a small brown head. Very brown

S- Lots of chocolate and coffee. Bit hot

T- Pretty good. A bit hot though. Blended well

M- Pretty creamy. Not hot at all. Smooth

O- Not bad. Enjoyable and sweet. Looking forward to the 2013 vertical to the 2014.

Food Paring

This pretty good stout went well with.... Chocolate cake. I know it seems simple but it is good.

Enjoy
