Got this one from Hopsolutely this past summer. Cheers guys!

From a bomber into a snifter
Brewed 1 October 2013
Bottled 4 November 2013
OG: 19 degrees
FG: 4 degrees

APPEARANCE: A deep burgundy brown/red, clear, with no real carbonation evident. Yields a two finger, medium looking, slightly foamy, light tan head with very good retention. Slowly fades to a full wisp and clings a bit to the glass. A slight wisp and ring remain leaving some falling dots of lacing down the glass. Lovely color and a mediocre head.

SMELL: Nice, fruity nose of dried fruit, dark fruits, grapes and dates, caramel and toffee, with notes of leather as well. Nuts and a touch of tobacco as well. Good stuff, and plenty forthcoming.

TASTE: Dark fruits, dates and grapes, with caramel and toffee sweetness up front. More sweet malts into the finish with a bold and lingering finish of sweet toffee and fruit. Some tobacco, leather and notes of nuts and chocolate bitterness as well. Very flavorful and complex. Great stuff.

PALATE: Medium-fuller body with medium levels of carbonation. Creamy on the palate, smooth as well, goes down smooth and finishes a touch mouth-coating. Really good feel.

OVERALL: Excellent stuff. Maybe the best brew I’ve ever had from these guys. Lots of nice aroma and flavor with a solid feel to support it all. Good stuff and highly recommended. Thanks again for the brews guys. This one was stellar.

From a 650ml bottle into a stemmed, tulip glass, it pours a dark garnet-black, though it appears filtered; low head retention; sweet aromas of smoke nuts, toffee pudding and apricots; moderately sweet, full bodied, but mouthfeel is a bit thin; there's a core of dried orchard fruits here, but a grainy astringency and heat linger at the back of the palate - could use some balancing bitterness. OK.

22 oz.

Pours jet black like a stout, half inch of yellowish white head is fine and retains well.

Smells of oak, brown sugar, buttered biscuit, and plums.

Tastes of brown sugar malt with a hint of fruity sweetness.

Full body with tingly carbonation on the roof of the mouth.

This is a really pretty aromatic old ale with some nice body, but it comes across as strangely bland in the flavor. It tastes good, but there just isn't as much there as there ought to be given the rest of the beer's characteristics. That aside, quite tasty and enjoyable.

Appearance: It has a nice dark brown/black color to it. It has a nice creamy beige head that dies down moderately and leaves light lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of sweet caramel, sweet dark fruit, some roasted malts, a slight nuttiness and very faint chocolate.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has some sweet caramel, some nuttiness, light dark fruit, roasted malts and faint chocolate. Quite dry on the finish.

Mouthfeel: It has a low carbonation with a nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied by decent flavors and aromas. Not something that I would buy again but it's not terrible.

I know many love the chocolate, toffee and coffee flavours in beer but I don't. I am a trapist beer type of guy.
Having said that, I will try them nonetheless and this one is okay within that category. Still, I won't try it again.

Purchased at the LCBO for around $8.00 for a 650ml bottle. Served at 4deg C in a tulip.

A- Opens well and pours a small head that is gone in 30sec. Very dark brown almost black

S- Lots here. A touch of sulpher.

T- Unusually lacking. Good blend but missing something. Roasted malt. Caramel but not much.

M-Dry, very dry. Bites the tongue a bit.

O- Not bad but will not buy again. Just another to put under the belt.

Food Pairing

This decent brew went well with...... BBQ Sausages top 'em the way you like 'em.

Enjoy!
