June 2016: 330 ml bottle, batch #1374, from Vinmonopolet Verksgt., Stavanger. ABV is 11%, 30 IBU. Pitch black colour, low tan head. Pleasant aroma of roast malts, exotic woodwork, aquavit, chocolate and vanilla. Smooth mouthfeel. Excellent flavour, slightly sweet but not too much, notes of aquavit, oak, chocolate and vanilla. Moderate hops. Would happily buy again.

Pours a very dark brown, near black, with quite a small head that still leaves some lacing and a ring. Nose is soft roasted notes with some wood and a touch of booze. Note...I have no idea what Aquavit smells or tastes like. Flavor s a bit more pronounced, but still soft for a 12% beer. A bit of dark chocolate, some pleasant booze notes which I assume come from the Aquavit...but not what I'd call a boozy beer even at 12%. Also woody, particularly in the mid palate and as it warms. Quite rounded and some depth despite being soft. Overall, a pleasant sipper that is still reasonably easy going for what it is.

Nose is roasty, woody, and chocolate forward. Taste brings a fruity quality resembling cherries (though I have no aquavit frame of reference). A bit thin, but pretty nice overall.

330ml bottle - wow, a very wintry-sounding brew to show up now, right at the beginning of summer. And yeah, the yokel who added this one here probably did it by jumping the proverbial gun, once again.

This beer pours a solid black abyss, with some very spare basal red cola edges, and one skinny-ass finger of weakly puffy, finely foamy, and somewhat bubbly brown head, which leaves a bit of swollen rain cloud lace around the glass as things slowly sink away.

It smells of bready and doughy caramel malt, bittersweet chocolate, a twinge of cafe-au-lait, black licorice, and some well-perfumed floral hop bitters. The taste is milk chocolate, grainy and slightly roasted caramel malt, some muddled dark berry fruitiness, a subtle barrel-borne woody thing, some steady dime-store licorice candy, and more plain leafy, earthy, and floral hoppiness.

The carbonation is fairly light on its frothy and fizzy feet, the body a solid medium-heavy weight, and quite smooth, with a gentle airy creaminess there right out of the starting gate. It finishes off-dry, the lingering toasty malt, cocoa, and weirdly floral fruitiness carrying us out at last call.

Overall, a pretty heady and well-focused strong (and I mean strong) porter, with the aquavit showing up exactly how I expected - it's the watermelon of barrel treatments, as in you really gotta strain to get it into the end product. Anyway, a decent warming tipple (the 22-proof booze generally obfuscated), with lots of flavour abounding, and worthy of the sort of dear price commanded around these parts.

Label says nothing about rye but I'm just gonna go ahead and throw this in here anyway. 330ml with a bottled-on date of 2-18-15. Not a whole lot of aquavait presence (maybe due to age?) but there is a slight general spirit/barrel presence in there. Otherwise this really just gets by with Nogne's porter/stout skill: great mix of milk/dark chocolate, roast, some licorice. The feel is definitely a highlight, extremely smooth with impressive carbonation, a bit of booze heat but very easy-going for a barrel-aged 11%er. Also maintains that porter slickness rather than the heft of an impy-stout which is nice. It would've been nice to see the aquavit shine through, but pretty nice as is.
