Pours black and opaque through it's center. Suprisingly, there are light brown edges on this beer. A quarter inch of brown head forms on top and lingers with nice retention. No real lacing to speak of.
The arom ais gorgeous. Some coffee notes, chocolate, vanilla, and as EmperorStan put it - Cookie Dough. Really just delicious!
The taste is awesome. Some coffe and chocolate for sure. But chocolate certainly takes the lead. Notes of vanilla are also present as well as an overaqll sweetness with a bit of roasted maltiness. Really tasty and balanced.
The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied and lightly carbonated.
The drinkability is high with awesome flavors, and undetected levels of alcohol. So smooth and easy drinking for a High abv beer. A true feat of beer brewing.

Battle at share. Inky black pour with a thin, creamy beige head. Aging has done this beer wonders.Candy bar aromas of chocolate and almonds. Taste adds vanilla, molasses, deep roasty grains and anise. Sugary sweet and smooth.

Split a bottle with my brothers tonight as a way to celebrate a bit coming home to see family. Bottle # 04061.
This beer is at cellar temp and we are sampling from a series of stemless wine glasses.
The beer pours a pitch black color with a slightly frothy tan head that fades to a significant edge layer that remains for the entire sampling.
Aroma is dark chocolate and some rum soaked raisin hits. I also get a good whiff of booze and some other dark fruit, no hops to be found on the nose here.
First sip is a fairly thick body with spaced carbonation that provides a bit of a tickle as it rolls across my palate. Flavor is what I expected but there is no coffee presence anywhere to be found.
Big robust malt profile includes dark cocoa, raisins and plums, a little bit of rum notes and some red grape too. Some slight port wine or sherry quality to this aged brew. A little bit of harsh alcohol that warms on each swallow, the booze impact fades as consume my glass. No hops anywhere on this beer.
This is a big complex boozy beer that I am glad to have shared with my brothers tonight. Definitely a sipper and probably best to share with others. Worth every penny I paid many years ago.

crazy beer to get to drink, thanks to a new beer friend for busting this out of his cellar after all these years (six or seven!). actually has a little carbonation in the glass, some real struggling bubbles lurching through the gelatinous fluid to the surface, arriving tired and barely popping through into thin, coffee colored air pockets before bursting and leaving the beer looking dead still, in all of its obsidian luster. the aroma here throws me way way off, grape juice, koolaid or gatorade or something. i can see stone fruit and port wine if i try too, but artificial purple grape drink or candy is what comes to mind first. minimal bitterness from the roast, very low alcohol presence for its strength, and zero coffee at all, considering the label calls this a coffee stout, i assume its dropped out over time. the flavor starts with the grape thing, but it is indeed more port wine like in the flavor than the smell. dark cherry and figs give way to rich dark chocolate syrup, which is fully in line with the texture of this cellar masterpiece. i am amazed how mellow the alcohol is, and how smooth the overall beer is. the coffee is gone, but the character is still robust and dynamic, and may still hang on a few more years if unopened and stored correctly. very little carbonation on the palate, but its not dead flat either. going down way too easy, almost tastes distilled at times. this is proof that we dont need oak barrels to make beer suitable for extended aging in the bottle. a real treat, and i am honored to have tried this beer, maybe one of the oldest and hardest to acquire bottles ive had. first edition of stuff like this is always extremely fun, and i will remember this one for a long lone time.
