Bottle: Poured a cloudy dark brown color ale with a average size light brown head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of earthy hops with solid caramelized malt. Taste is also a solid mix between some caramelized malt with notes of earthy hops with a medium bitter finish. Body is quite full with limited filtration and good carbonation with no apparent alcohol. Well brewed though more floral hosp presence would have provided increase enjoyment of this beer.

Served in a tulip glass at Local Option 4/2/11.

A: Served a dark amber, relatively clear, with one finger of khaki colored foam on top that stuck around for about a minute before it evaporated down to a thin skim and collar. A few flecks of lace were left behind for good measure.

S: Pretty sweet on the nose. Caramel and toffee at the beginning with a nice dose of pine and black cherry as it warms up.

T: Same as above. Hops get way more apparent as it warms...piney with a touch of citrus.

M: Slick and sweet with a creeping bit of hoppy burn that takes a while to emerge.

O: A nice effort and I'm glad to have tried it on draft. Bring on batch # 1000!

Thanks to Mike for sharing this one. Served in my Kuhnhenn tulip. Bottled April 2010, best before April 2013.

A - Pours with a finger-plus of light tan foam that settles to a thin cap leaving behind copious tiny spots of lace that coat the glass. Hazed ruby-amber body.

S - I was expecting this to be faded, and that's a pretty fair assessment. What's left of the hop character is very much herb, pine and grass. The other thing I immediately noticed is rye malt, which was a bit of surprise. A quick trip to the ingredients list revealed there is indeed rye, wheat, and oats. In any case, there's some caramel and honey flavor in addition to the rye zest.

T - Big flavor of rye and toffee as well, with less hop flavor than the nose suggests. Initially there is little bitterness, but it creeps up pretty quickly after a few sips. Not bad, just kind of dull.

M - The feel is maybe the worst part of this beer. It's grainy, harsh, and rough. Medium-full body, syrupy, alcohol warmth, oily, with low carbonation.

D - This isn't very compelling after 8 monhts, and I doubt I would have enjoyed it much fresh either, seeing as it was heavy on Chinook hops. These European IPAs and DIPAs are getting better on the whole, but they still haven't totally figured it out.

Bottle. Courtesy of bosse. Poured into a pint glass a deeper copper orange color with an antique white 1 finger head. Lots of fruit notes in the nose including mango, pineapple, and orange rind. The taste follows the nose in that it has a strong citrus and tropical fruit flavors. Medium mouthfeel. Bitterness in the end. Balance is a little on the sweet side but other than that a pretty good ipa.

The beer pours a dark mahogany colour with a fluffy light tan head. Head retention could be a bit better.

Rich and nutty malt aroma with a piney, citrussy hop aroma. There's a strong ripe tropical fruit note as well.

Beautifully balanced malt and hop character with dark, lucious malt playing against fruity, piney hops. Nice, solid bitterness in the background.

Medium body with moderate carbonation. Good.

A luscious, full flavoured IIPA in the European style which has a bit of malt to it. A great celebration beer for this brewery's 500th brew.

A clouded dark amber beer with an off-white head leaving good lacing and curtains.

The smell is earthy, dust, some honey sweetness, but mainly hoppy grassy tones.

The taste is initially sweet, toffee and caramel, then some porridge with honey, bitter oranges, a sherry nuance, and of course an abundance of hops!

Medium carbonation, soft and dry.

A really, really nice DIPA.

For me, this Norweigan brewer can do not a lot wrong. I have tried almost every brew they have produced and there is barely a bad one between them. This one is no exception either!
Big bold and hoppy with plenty of alcohol bite on the finish. Loved it, but I don't think I could drink too many in a sitting.
Great beer :)

This is this breweries 500th batch of beer which contains 5 hops,5 malts,100IBU's and 10% alcohol and it was brewed while a TV station filmed it anyway it pours a murky amber hue with nice carbonation that leaves behind a creamy tanned two finger head and nice lacing here and there, the smell is strong pine, medicinal hops, toffee malts and some dark fruit,it has a rather sticky lightly carbonated mouthfeel to it with tastes of medicinal, herbal hops on the forefront followed by some caramel malts, dark fruits and finishes with a rather roasty bitterness, overall not bad but have had better but in saying that you have to at least try it as it is an interesting intepretation of an IIPA.

A - Poured into a oversize wine glass a hazy amber colour with a 3cm dense light beige head that slowly falls away.
S - Pine sap, toffee, stewed dark fruit & a bit of spice; not what I was hoping for.
T - Much like the smell with the toffee malt taking over & the spice more noticeable.
M - Low carbonation, higher side of medium bodied. Bitterness is there but balanced by plenty of malt.
D - A Imperial/Double IPA that is crossing over into an American Barleywine territory. It certainly is a good to very good American Barleywine but can't be reviewed as such because the label clearly states Imperial India Pale Ale.
Worth trying but do not expect an American Hop Bomb.
