look: 4.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 1.5 | overall: 3.5

Eyes: Funny but points for a very classy bottle shape. It feels right in the hand, low center of gravity allows controlled pours.
The beer itself is dark brown that glows ruby with back light. The head lasts and slowly drops into a clumpy dark tan cover that laces the glass.

Nose: Rich Dubbel profile, toasted black bread malt, Earthy nobel hops, light ester raisin and floral fermentation notes with a thin alcohol ribbon.

Tongue: (see Feel) Toffee sweetness. Burnt sugar, purple grape skin tannins, light tonic water, a lot of complicated flavors going on in a fairly unified package. The total flavor is fairly subdued, almost watered down a bit, but what's here is nice. A light bubblegum finish encourages the next sip.

Feel: Fizzy to the point of distraction. Going to have to swirl this a bit just to get liquid instead of gas. Crazy carbonation, surprised I didn't get more of a report from the cap (kind of expected a cork, but all good). Very light body and watery texture, just a hint of alcohol numbing.

Overall: Only picked this up because it as on sale for half price. For the price I paid ($5) I enjoyed the beer and felt I got good value. I just couldn't see spending $10 on another, unless there was an Italian angle to some event.
Still, would be a good option to a bottle of wine for an Italian meal and is mild enough to be accessible to non-craft beer fans.

Poured from bottle into tulip. Deep amber brown color with thick creamy head. Nuce sugary and dried fruit aromas. Taste is sweet raison and sugar.. a bit of dried fruit with some caramel vanilla finish. Its a bit thin but rather smooth. Overall a very good dubbel..while its not the best its pretty tasty.

Appearance: Hazy dark mahogany in color, impenetrable to light, with a moderate, lingering off-white head, and lacing that resembles an alien tract.

Aroma: I have read certain reviews which described the beers in question as cola-like. I was quite dismissive of such reviews. However, now I find such an example, where there are surprising cola notes, like coca-cola without any sugar. There are also moderate dark fruit notes.

Taste:Opens with a cola-like caramel note, like unsweetened cola. As the taste progresses, there is mild roasted malt note, with an undercurrent of caramel. Faint, spicy alcohol notes are present throughout. Finishes with a lingering burnt caramel note.

Mouth feel: Smooth, soft and very full, with understated carbonation.

Drinkability/notes: Pleasant and drinkable, but a bit nondescript.

Presentation: Packaged in a custom twenty-five point-four ounce green glass bottle with a pry-off crown, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.

Color- dark sassafras. Huge head.

Aroma- gentle caramelized sugar, hint of custard, and floral backdrop.

Taste- Starts with a mildly roasted malt, but has lager-like elements, very mellow finish.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle into a Liefmans Goudenband glass (my preferred all purpose beer tasting glass). Tasted 7/20/2013.

A dubbel from Italy, interesting.

Pours a fizzy foamy 1 finger head that fades at a fairly quick rate, leaving nice soapy lacing, over a dark hazy auburn mahogany red colored beer with hints of ruby light coming through.

Nose brings the fruit I expected, dark dried fruit, fig, date, touch of candied raisin with brown sugar, and some fleshy stone fruit like plum, and a light syrupy molasses, then a bit of a yeasty bready aroma, a touch of phenolic booze, mild esters, a sweet raisin molasses bread.

Taste starts with more candy flavors, candied raisins, brown sugar, molasses, little syrupy, etc. Plenty of fruits again, a nice plum flavor, some fig and date, little sweet syrupy flavors, then with that comes mild esters again, little phenolic booze as well, and little booze warmth, as well as light bready yeast characters again, almost mirroring the aroma except more plummy. A mild bitterness comes through with touch of hops. Finish is drier and a bit more warming booze, slight dark fruits with more plum, light brown sugar fig and raisin.

Mouth is med bod, decent carb, light warming booze.

Overall not bad, nothing too special but a nice dubbel, good amount of esters and nice phenols, booze is in place but a little boozier than 7.5%, nice dark fruits and sweet characters, pretty tasty.
