Ruddy chestnut hue with a slight haze. Thin, but persistent light tan head leaves loose lace. The aroma is dominated by dilute chocolate and dark toffee. Woody, bark like hints along with a slightly sour citric twang are secondary. In flavor, an agreeable roasted nut, brittle like component is prevalent. Steady, stately dark lovibond caramel malt with a softer biscuit tinge complements. Mild earthy hop flavor with definite woody sweet tones mirrors the hop nose. Typically lightly bodied for a brown. Mostly clean and quaffable. Sours a bit towards the end, with underripe prune hints lending soft acidity. Finishes dry, with both hop bitterness and semisweet chocolate hints fading quickly. An enjoyable brown that presents more overall character than the norm. Not outstanding, but it's certainly hard not to inhale this one. Fine drinkability.

Poured from a 12oz bottle that was bottled for the NABA competition. Thanks to mrmarmot for bringing this one back.

A: Crystal clear, copper color. Aggressive pour leads to a thin half-finger head that fizzles out pretty quickly.

S: Not much of a nose, grainy, some malt, no hops really to speak of.

T: Follows the nose in that there really isn't anything distinguishable in the flavor.

M: Fine feel, ample carbonation.

O: A very average beer, nothing to write home about.

This was poured into a mug.
The appearance was a hazy copper color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated immediately. There wasn't any lacing.
The smell had some burnt sugars, and had a weird graininess about it.
The taste was basically the same thing.
The mouthfeel was light bodied. Carbonation hits my tongue a bit higher than expected for an English Brown ale, but nothing too overbearing.
Overall, as an English Brown ale, eh, nothing bad, but I think I'd rather seek out other English Brown ales before this.
