Appearance: Pours a burnt caramel color with a modest head that quickly fritters away to a ringlet; leggy, with spots of lacing drizzling down

Smell: Beguiling aromatics of Armagnac, fig, currants, brown sugar and caramel

Taste: At the outset, the Armagnac bursts into prominence, bringing a boozy blend of fig, raisin, cherry, brown sugar and caramel tones; this melange of flavors builds, after the swallow, along with a bit of a burn, in the gullet; spice cake flavors linger, in the aftertaste

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with low carbonation; considerable burn

Overall: I recall the days on BA where the big Belgians were among the most highly rated beers; these days, it is all big stouts, IPAs and sours; this beer harkens back to those early days and I would stack this up against any of the Belgian quads, including Westy 12

found this in the back of the fridge, had it there since it's release. real nice label, i believe this was released at the same time as calico jack. bottled 9/10/15, a bit over a year as i'm drinking it now

poured into a perfect stout glass

looks pretty good, about what i would expect from a ba quad. very small head

ok the nose comes through right away all of it good! quad sweetness upfront, brandy raisin and some vanilla.

flavor comes through nicely! huge chewy sticky brandy covered raisins. the base quad comes out excellent. as it warmed it really improved. very tasty beer

mouthfeel is fantastic, huge and think. was surprised by the abv OH likes to hover around 10% for the beers this one is a big boy at 14%. probably the biggest OH beers i've had

overall this was a winner! during the tail end of the golden era of the OH barrel program. lately some of their ba beers have let me down. however this one is everything i want from a ba quad.

A - Poured into a Teku glass. Very dark, opaque, copper/ amber. Head quickly dissipated into a thin ring, and all together 30 minutes in.

S - Raisins, figs, brandy.

T - Caramel, dark fruit, grapes, brown sugar, oak, alcohol.

M - Medium body with light carbonation.

O - Opened nine months after bottling. Could have waited a touch longer, but impressive overall. Beautiful blend. Boozy all the way through. Warming. Armagnac really shines. A sipper for sure at 14%.

Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of figs, raisins, booze, toffee and caramel. A little sweet, but not overly sweet. Medium body with low carbonation.

Pours into a chalice a deep rich ruby color with a creamy lighter beige colored head that settles like a pillow, dark fruit soaked in brandy really jumps out at ya,I get a slight yeast phenolic note but it's not real big.Like an alcoholic fig newton upfront on the palate with some spice cake-like notes, the alcohol gets bigger and bigger as I drink more, there is a bit of drying in the finish,I wouldn't say earthy but it does dry out a little in the back end. This is a whopper of a beer,a full on sipper but a great one at that.Well OH.
