Appearance: Pours a clear burnt caramel color with a modest beige head that fades quickly; dots of lacing hang around and dribble to the liquid
Smell: Caramel, dried orange peel, raisin and black cherry; redolent of the Armagnac barrel
Taste: Caramel, raisin and black cherry forward, with the Armagnac flavor building; oak and dried orange peel flavors add complexity, after the swallow; with a sweet, mellow finish
Mouthfeel: Full bodied with low carbonation to mimic the cocktail
Overall: I enjoy about 12 oz of these faux cocktail beers and then I have had enough; this one is good but fits that mold

Appearance - Pours very dark plum brownish color with thin tan head that quickly dissipates no lacing.
Aroma - Tons of whiskey and oak, dark fruit plum and cherry. Sweet caramel you can smell some of the brandy as well.
Taste - The first thing I get is the dark fruit and oak, this may be the beer with the most noticeable barrel flavor I have had. The whiskey/armagnac is present but not as strong as the aroma. There is also caramel and vanilla as well.
Feel - Medium body well carbonated just a hint of burn.
Overall - I really enjoyed this beer, very well done. The alcohol is not very noticeable in the taste and all of the flavor are very well balanced.

650 mL bottle. Pours a deep brown with almost no head. Smells of whiskey, lots of oak, and a ton of caramel. I think I get some of that French Armagnac. Very strong barrel character. Taste has a lot of barrel character too. Whiskey, oak, definitely something like brandy. Maybe some orange in the back end? Heavy, very oaky. This beer is 90% barrel, but it's nice.

Poured into a Duvel tulip. Label says 4/13/16.
A- Pours a medium brown color with a 1/4 inch dark tan head that retains decently before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a half sheet of sheer surface foam. Semi-resilient lacing leaves large clots behind.
S- Lots of cherry and hazelnut with some oak backing. Also some roasty malt characteristic tying everything together.
T- Sweet with notes of dark fruit, raisin and more cherry. Not really getting much orange peel. Just a lot of fortified wine taste from the Armagnac barrel. Very smooth for the ABV. As it warms, the cherry and Armagnac become more integrated in the flavor profile.
M- Somewhat slick with medium carbonation and a body leaning toward the fuller side.
O- Very good but I honestly was expecting a bit more intensity of flavor. You basically get the Armagnac barrels and not much else. Also, it doesn't really taste like a Manhattan. There's no bitter, herbal or whiskey component. I would liken this more to a cocktail that happened to feature Luxardo and fortified wine. Not sure that such a cocktail exists but it's closer to that than a Manhattan. Good? Yes. Would I pay $20 for a bottle again? No.
