Poured into a snifter

A: Dark black with a tan ring instead of a head. No lacing.

S: Licorice, malts, chocolate, caramel, smoke.

T: Robust, strong. Malts, anise. Dark chocolate. Smokey. Definately a stout with legs.

M: Medium to heavy with medium carbonation.

O: A great stout, but one that needs to be sipped. A bit much for me. Quite a bear.

Picked up a 12 oz single from the Appalachian Vintner 8-4-22 for $5.22. Bottled 10-28-21; consumed 10-30-22.

Beer poured black with a smaller tan head.

Nose is nice, roasted malts with a touch of licorice are front and center.

Taste is a large roasted malt base that provides a licorice and dark fruit profile. Finishes with a touch of honey sweetness yet remains balanced from adequate hopping.

Mouthfeel is medium to large bodied and very smooth.

Overall a solid imperial stout that i would have again!

Imperial Stout from Olde Hickory Brewery. Received 10/8/20 from @nc41 in BIF 12. Reviewed 11/4/20.
12 oz bottle stamped on front label “bottled on 06/12/19”. Stored at home at 42 degrees and served at 57 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Final temperature 59.5 degrees.
Appearance – 4.
First pour – Amber brown (SRM 18), clear.
Body – Black (SRM 40), as light-absorbing as a black hole. When held to direct light, same.
Head – Large (Maximum four cm, aggressive center pour), fawn, fizzy, short retention, diminishing to a one to three mm crown and a thin partial cap.
Lacing – None.
Aroma – 4.5 – Light sweetness, toasted malt, molasses, coffee, maybe some bitter chocolate (?), no hops, no yeast.
Flavor – 4 – Begins slightly bitter with toasted malt, otherwise none of the nose transfers to the taste buds. No hops, no yeast. No alcohol (10.5 % ABV, as marked on container) taste or aroma but gastric warming occurs. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl.
Palate – 3 – Medium, a little thicker than watery, short-lived but fizzy carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 4 - Seems closer to the porter end of the spectrum except for the well-hidden ethanol. Exceptional aroma, not so exceptional flavor.

Bottle from the pretty much defunct any day now, Bruisin' Ales. Bottled: 9/13/17.

Ommegang anniversary glass. Brown, fluffy head, red tinge on a not quite black body.

Lightly charred sugar, soft meat smoke, heavy dark bread, brown booze, stone.

Tastes is old hops, brown sugar, charred coffee bitterness, burnt cookies, light whiskey, ashy finish. Low carbonation, thick but not oppressive. Alcohol is on par.

Tis okay.

22 oz bomber from 9/13/17 poured into a tulip glass. Pours pitch black, with a one finger dark tan head that moves quickly to a bubbly lace that retains well. Smell is roasted chocolate , cocoa, vanilla and honey. The taste follows suit, more weighted towards chocolate, with a mild amount of bitterness on the finish. The heat is well masked. The mouthfeel is medium heavy, creamy, medium light carbonation. A recommended imperial stout, especially if you like it slightly sweet and chocolately.
