Poured into a weizen glass. "Enjoy before May, 2011" on the label. Guess I should have looked before buying, but it's only a month older than prime.

2.5 A: Hazed golden wheat color. Three fingers of frothy white head that falls at a ridiculously fast rate and leaves no lacing.

2.0 S: Not quite a fan of this. Strongest aroma is a sharp, almost vegetal clove. It's really hard to put a description on what is left. Maybe rotting peach is close. This doesn't have the clean wheatiness that I come to expect in a hefe or any banana for that matter.

2.5 T: Taste is a bit like the nose, but the unappealing rotting peach flavor isn't nearly as strong. Otherwise, this is strikingly boring. Just a hint of clove and very little banana.

3.0 M: Lighter to lighter medium body. Carbonation is a bit light for the style. Not particularly creamy, but enough so be keep me happy.

2.0 D: This is a pretty disappointing beer. The quality from Olde Hickory has been all over the place and this has easily been the worst of the bunch. Based on the other reviews, it looks like the extra month on this didn't make a good beer bad, but it's possible that it made a bad beer worse.

Bottle says best by August 2014. Tasted 19 June 2014.

Pours a murky medium yellow-amber. One plus finger of fuzzy white head, good retention and lacing.

Smell has some, but not all, of what I want. Lots of fruity yeast esters, not much spice. Like banana bread without the spices, which makes it feel sorta empty.

Taste is analogous to the smell, though I find it duller. It has an unusual bend, like seltzer water - that kind of dried-out watery bitterness. I only get a shadow of hefeweizen. It tastes fine, but it's sorta weird.

Feel is fine. A little on the heavy side, but fizzy enough to make up for that. Fades out pretty quick - not exactly dry, but sort of vanishing.

A decent beer, though it's weird for a hefe. The taste tilts bitter, without the big flavors hefeweizen yeast usually brings out.

Served from a 22oz bomber.
Vessel: Paulaner Weizen Glass

A: Pours an expectantly cloudy yellow topped by a thick meringue like white head. Bubbles of carbonation violently race to the surface.

S: Lacking in the aromas you would expect from a Hefe. Where is the clove and banana? A bit wheaty with just a hint of band-aid deep in the nose.

T: Pretty bland for a Hefe. The tell tale banana and clove characteristics for the style are very muted. You get plenty of wheat, grainy character but thats about it. Possibly fermented too cool for the yeast.

M: Creamy mouthfeel with prickly carbonation.

D: Drinkable but not what I was expecting from a Hefe. Little disappointed in fact after really enjoying other beers from Olde Hickory. Maybe I set the bar too high. Anyway, if you like a middle of the road Hefe's without too much banana or clove character then this is a hefe for you. Sadly, not my cup of wheat.

Appearance: Pours a clear honey color with a modest head; not much lacing

Smell: Banana and clove, with hints of lemon and coriander

Taste: Tart wheat flavors, up front, with hints of lemon, banana and clove; lemon and coriander pull through the finish

Mouthfeel: Light bodied with moderate carbonation

Overall: Not up to the standards of the other Olde Hickory beers, this beer lacks the mouthfeel, carbonation and banana dominance of the great hefes

A: The beer is slightly hazy pale yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a thin white head.
S: Moderate to strong aromas of bananas are present in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell and has lots of flavors of bananas from the yeast along with notes of wheat and hints of clove.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This hefeweizen has lots of nice banana flavors and is a good representation of the style.

A- yeasty unfiltered that is light green to yellow color. minimal head that dissipates quickly.

S- esters and lemongrass. a tangy citrus scent as well

F- tangy citrus dominates the mouth and the lemongrass comes through as well.

M- medium bodied with chewy wheat feeling.

O- a decent hefe but the sour tangyness i taste is lil overbearing at times.

Pours a slightly hazy straw yellow with a white head that doesn't stick around for long. Aroma is wheaty and yeasty with just a touch of citrus, typical for a hefe. Wheaty flavor has a firm yeasty note and a subtle undertone of somewhat sweet fruit - I get hints of orange, lemon and banana. Texture is fairly smooth, with above-average body and a strong fizz. Overall, an average but still pleasing hefeweizen.

Poured a cloudy yellow body with moderate head and lacing. Aroma has very little going with just hints of yeast/wheat twang and a little bit of bitter citric notes. The bitter citric/orange flavor in the beer overpowers everything and there is very little fruit sweetness, very little yeast to keep things smooth as at times the beer is just a bitter mess and very little spices to perk up the beer.

A: Pours a very lightly hazy medium golden yellow in color with light amounts of visible carbonation and some brassy highlights. The beer has a finger tall fizzy (almost soda-like) head that fairly quickly reduces to absolutely no head whatsoever. No lacing is observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of banana with some lighter hints of clove. Minimal aromas of wheat are present as well.

T: Upfront there are light flavors of wheat that is followed by much stronger flavors of banana (one of the most banana tasting hefeweizens I have ever tried). There is a light hint of clove towards the finish but overall the beer is slightly sweet.

M: On the lighter side of medium bodied with moderate to heavy amounts of carbonation. Slightly effervescent carbonation (like in a champagne).

O: I was a little disappointed in the appearance of this beer - I was expecting something more slightly orangish in color, cloudy, and with the huge head that I expect for the style. The mouthfeel was interesting, a little lighter and more effervescent than others in the style but the banana flavors were quite nice. Easy to drink and easy to enjoy.

On-tap in Asheville in a shaker pint. Lightly hazy gold with one finger of white foam, thin lace for an inch. Smell: soft banana, clove and some other pie spice (nutmeg?). A little sweet caramel. Taste: grainy wheat, more clove, sweet pale and a touch of caramel. That spice again. Active carbonation, creamy with a sticky finish.

Great to see another beer from these guys in the area. Poured this into my weizen glass. Pours a very murky pineapple juice-color. There's a big frothy white head on top at first, but this disappears quickly, leaving behind some sticky lace. Scents of pineapple, yeast, sour mash, and hints of bubble gum.

The body is crisp and refreshing. Carbonation level is moderate. Good for the style. This is a very bready Hefe, and I like it. Some nice sour citrus notes at the onset, mild coriander, and a great freshly-baked sourdough bread taste on the backend. This is very drinkable. Not my favorite style, but I downed this bomber quickly and happily. Recommend.

Appearance - big fluffy head that quickly subsides, leaving beneath it a very cloudy golden-peach-orange-yellow sunlit brew. When they say unfiltered they are not kidding.

Smell: Breath deep. A nice yeastiness, followed by banana, cloves, orange, and wheat.

Taste: I was shocked by how good this was, at $3.99 and having had it just hit distribution here I wasn't expecting too much. Tons of yeasty, banana, clove, and wheat flavors. This stuff gives live oak hefeweizen a run for its money and likely trumps it.

Mouthfeel: soft and creamy, the carbonation here is perfect - smooth, not aggressively bubbly. Full body.

Drinkability here is off the charts, although the full body is going to keep it at 4.5 instead of 5. I am going to be buying many of these next time.

Pours a hazy straw yellow color, but it only has a modest head for the style, and what is created quickly disappears to nothing. The aroma is a typical hefeweizen combination of wheat and yeast, but there is also a biscuity character and some apple cider sweetness. The flavor has a more pronounced yeasty tang that is contrasted by a dully fruity/starchy character of unripe bananas. The fine, light carbonation and medium body works well with these soft, subtle flavors. Overall, despite the sub-par appearance, this is a solid, above-average hefeweizen.

Very basic wheat beer with faint German flavors.

Quite pale and looks nice with foamy lacing swirling around the glass. Pleasant at first taste with some malt and woodsy flavors. Aroma is more of the barnyard. Touch of esters with a little clove or old cinnamon. Just not much malt. On the acidic side. Definitely not mouth filling.

I wouldn't recommend this if looking for a good Hefeweizen. It's a serviceable beer and might be appealing if fresh on tap and really cold.

Bottle into my Narke glass...The beer pours a very light honey gold, kind of bright. About three fingers of off white head rises but gone instantly to only a small ring. No lacing...A blah aroma of clove and wheat, not much going on...The taste and feel are blah. The taste is totally dead on the front, midway through you get a bite of bitterness, then some cloves. Doesn't taste bad, just boring. The feel is super light.

This doesn't taste bad, just simply blah. Don't waste your time with this.
