Served from a 22oz bomber.
Vessel: Paulaner Weizen Glass
A: Pours an expectantly cloudy yellow topped by a thick meringue like white head. Bubbles of carbonation violently race to the surface.
S: Lacking in the aromas you would expect from a Hefe. Where is the clove and banana? A bit wheaty with just a hint of band-aid deep in the nose.
T: Pretty bland for a Hefe. The tell tale banana and clove characteristics for the style are very muted. You get plenty of wheat, grainy character but thats about it. Possibly fermented too cool for the yeast.
M: Creamy mouthfeel with prickly carbonation.
D: Drinkable but not what I was expecting from a Hefe. Little disappointed in fact after really enjoying other beers from Olde Hickory. Maybe I set the bar too high. Anyway, if you like a middle of the road Hefe's without too much banana or clove character then this is a hefe for you. Sadly, not my cup of wheat.

Bottled 2021/05/11
Pours a light fizzy head covering with med retention, touch of lacing, hazy slight cloudy pale to straw color a little yeast sediment at the bottom
Nose has some decent banana, cracker and bread dough notes, a weird herbal grassy character, light herbal spices as well, little citrus
Taste brings creamy wheat, a little cracker and dough, light banana and citrus, generic fruit into light herbal floral spices, mixed spices and a little grassy earthy thing, drier finish with fair bitterness
Mouth is med to a little lighter bod, med to lighter fizzy carb
Overall it's OK but not that good, weird characters, not a ton of creamy wheat or banana, clove, etc

This home-state hefeweizen pours to a disappointingly thin, brief-lived white head that leaves a very few thin swoops of lacing; the pale-straw-colored body is surprisingly clear for the style, showing just a slight haze, and is very, very effervescent. The aroma is an improvement: light-medium in intensity, it is a blend of tartish citrus and muddy wheat, with a significant yeast presence and the slightest hint of estery spice; slight alcohol overtones ride atop everything else. The flavor is a bit thin, and mostly follows the nose, but the banana/clove spice, though subtle, is now strong enough to be identifiable. The wheat foundation is notably missing the characteristically light, low-end sweetness that a hefeweizen usually has; I think that this contributes to the perception that the flavor is thinnish. The finish is pretty clean, just a bit of caramel, and has a watery feel; the linger is a very light yeast/wheat flavor that lasts for a minute or so. The mouthfeel is light, even for the light body, and somewhat watery; the texture is distractingly prickly from the aggressive and soda-like carbonation, and lacks any degree of the creaminess that one would expect from the style. Poured into a Creature Comforts nonic pint. Label says Bottling Date: 05/10/16.
A- Pours a semi-hazy light golden color with a 1/4 inch white head that doesn't retain long before becoming a paper-thin ring around the edge of the glass and minimal surface foam. Nearly no lacing.
S- Usual yeasty whiff of banana and clove.
T- Plenty of banana flavor from the yeast with some wheat malt presence. The flavor is short-lived and fades from the palate quickly. Slightly sweet and easy to drink but not exciting.
M- Thin, even for the style, with medium carbonation and a light body.
O- Pretty average Hefe. Would recommend seeking out authentic German versions before trying this.

A: Poured a slightly opaque straw color with limited head and lacing.
S: Nice traditional hefe smell, I am getting the bread along with both a little of banana and clove, interesting.
T: Followed the nose for the most part, more sweet with the banana then clove. Overall it was a muted taste.
F: Light feel, carbonation was okay but the beer was thin.
O: Well, reasonable representation of style but not a lot there. Would take it over a lot of brews but would not look for.
