Pours about as black as any beer i've ever had. Looks a little thin in the pour. Slight brown head that goes away pretty quickly. Strong lacing, a nice looking beer.

Smell is bourbon upfront followed by nice roasted notes and dark chocolate. A pleasant smell though the bourbon dominates a little.

Taste is very in line with the smell only with a little bit of a dark fruit element as well. Bourbon taste is really well blended and doesn't drink hot as all.

Mouthfeel is a little thin. Not totally off, but i think a little thicker mouthfeel would do wonders for this beer.

Overall this is a really enjoyably beer and highly drinkable for the style. Locally, i'd rate it a slight notch below BA Sexy Chocolate, a slight notch above ORF, and a good step above Igor and Silent Night. Get this one if you can.

I fell in love with with this outstanding flavor profile. Of the very best imperial stouts I've ever tasted. This came out of nowhere from a friend and damn what a surprise. That one was two years aged. I've traded twice for this since.
Tried 2013 in 2015, a 2014 in Jan 2016, and the least of these was 2015 in tried in Nov 2016.
Get out there and get this beer!

Pours like motor oil and it looks like pouring motor oil (wow, nice). There is a nice pure jet black colored body. The head is thin as there is less than a half a finger’s worth. The smell has some dark chocolate up front with a super large amount of honey and then the bourbon comes into play. I do get some light vanilla and dark fruits. The taste has all of the previously mentioned flavors come to combine and give off a slight oaky quality that ends up giving off a super sweet sticky oaky bourbon vanilla aftertaste. The finish is quick with a sort of vanilla chocolate alcohol coming into play slightly dry. The palate is about a medium to heavy in body and not really sessionable - she’s a sipper. Carbonation comes across fairly smooth but with the element of Bourbon in there. I will have to admit the alcohol is slightly felt but honestly in a good way. Overall, holy moley, is this damn good or what? Definitely again if I could get it.

L - Deep black...very minimal head forms and dissipates quickly.
S - Sweetness....honey, bourbon and chocolate. Smells very decadent.
T - Exactly as the nose. Nice sweetness from the honey. Notes of bourbon and some fudginess. Drinks thick for 8.5%abv.
M - Super smooth. Coats the mouth and throat with chocolate and honey deliciousness.
O - Really shocked at how amazing this beer is. Thoroughly enjoyed though the bomber is a bit much to drink by your self due to the sweetness. Will seek this out again.

Tried this year's version last night and I gotta say it just may be a Top 10 beer for me. The honey sweetens it just enough to let the bourbon barrel come through at the end and at 8.5% this thing is so very drinkable it's almost unbelievable. Great beer.

1/4 inch head. Pitch black. Aroma is intense bourbon and oak, medium cocoa and a sweetness I can't exactly pinpoint as a smell like freshly baked German chocolate cake. Body is surprisingly slick at 8.5%. Taste is wonderfully surprising as well. I agree with other posts to the similarities to BCS, vanilla, bourbon caramel, smooth as hell. Want more!

The only beer I've had that's better is Bourbon County Stout. If you enjoy BBA beers & Imperial Stout, this is a must have!

Another thanks to the Joe for this delectable concoction. Cheers!

Bottled 11/22/2017.

The Event Horizon is a beautiful beer. The pitch black body acts as a mirror. A gloriously beautiful mirror, obviously. No light can penetrate it, and an appropriately rich espresso head slowly descends into a fine ring and small amoeba patches on the surface.

Plenty of booze off the bat. Sweet smelling with a chocolate and vanilla influence front and center. "A twinkle of honey" is accurate. Dark honey. Very, very dark honey. More like black strap molasses. A touch of charred oak, not smokey but toasted.

Perhaps the added year of aging helped here, I don't know, but this is frickin' delicious. It's sweet and is reminiscent of a marshmallowy BA stout, but better. Not disgustingly sweet. Just right. Vanilla, check. Chocolate, check. Coffee... fig and blueberry... molasses... check, check, check. The honey actually comes in a bit in the flavor as a drizzle over lightly toasted almonds. With a little warmth, a touch of holiday spice comes to. Or perhaps that's just my imagination.

Rich and creamy to the fullest with an emphasis on sweet. Almost zero carbonation, in fact quite flat especially after being subjected to the inevitable tick of time. There's a nutty, toasty element and spiciness in the end that seems to be the sole provider of a bitter finish, and that's just fine by me. It acts like a big boy, but the warmth keeps true to it's advertised abv.

This is one delicious and complex beer. Another example that stouts, or any style for that matter, don't need to be extreme to achieve top shelf. Don't get me wrong. This beer is extreme. Extremely delicious, extremely beautiful, and extremely enjoyable to sip.

Cheers, and thanks again Joe.

enough of the barrel aged stouts out there. this is a sort of shut up and sit down to the millions of wannabes out there. i absolutely love this one. its rich and frothy in looks, dense and dark, and with a nose that is just insane. toasted coconut, cocoa, vanilla, dry chalky grain, and a whiskey smoothness thats incredible. love that its under ten percent abv too, which is great, allows me to drink a bunch of this. a real cool nuttiness too, almond and hazelnut, lasting, and going brilliantly with the whiskey complexion. rich lathery feel, lasting forever in the finish, but not ever really getting all that heavy. this is my first and only beer ive ever had from these guys, and the hype is real, i mean, this thing is just insane. as layered as anything, its as close to as intensely flavored as the bruery big ones like black tuesday and its relatives. half the abv or less, but such a dynamic beer. chocolate in the finish, oaky, memorable. i want a mainline of this one. one of the few beers where its as good or better as the masses say. a must

L - pours a deep black, small golden head forms -less than 1/4" - nice lacing
S - Damn, straight honey to the face - thick deep honey its strong and inviting - tons of chocolate
T - Holy hell this is thick, full body molasses/honey goodness. everything you want in an imperial barrel aged stout - vanilla cream, hazelnut coffee creamer was added, its must have been. Amazing!
F - Super smooth, coates the throat with honey. good for a cold, or a winter night, or anytime, this is great.
O - Surprisingly underrated in my opinion, this would stand right up against the bourbon county lineup if they made a honey/chocolate variant.

2011 Vintage poured into tulip. (5 years old)

This beer lived up to the hype for me. Completely oaky and boozy without being overwhelming. Great body and mouthfeel. It wasn't like oil but was not watered down either. An amazing beer that will surprise you at 8.5%. I haven't had it fresh but age hasn't hurt this beer in the least.

2012 bottle.

Black beer, foamy dark brown head and nice patches of lace. Aroma is thick with leathery tobacco, dark chocolate fudge, blackstrap molasses, caramel liquor, cherries, and blueberries. Pretty fantastic. Flavor is loaded with massive amounts of chocolate, berries, bourbon, vanilla, and some orange sneaking in at the end. Sugary, sticky, alcoholic, but smooth and creamy. Very nice blankety thickness in texture. Smooth bitterness mixed with soft carbonation throughout. This is a pretty massive beer.
