Imperial stout brewed with honey and aged in bourbon barrels. 2014 bottling poured into a Lost Abbey Teku. The pour is black, not terribly viscous, and a rough pour produces a rocky brown head which retains quite well. The first notes I get on the nose are bourbon and dark fruit (plenty of each). With the bourbon, I don't get the nice vanilla and toasted oak, just the residual alcohol. The dark fruit is nice and port-like, but I'd rather have cocoa, coffee, and maybe some coconut aromas in a big barrel-aged stout.

The beer is full bodied and has a good firm feel (a little oily - good for the style). The flavors follow the nose quite well. There is a little bit of tartness up front. It's not infection or off-flavor, it's the dark fruit that I nosed. Following the fruit are hints of roasted malt, toasted almonds, dark chocolate, burnt toast, some licorice, and ruby port on the finish. The beer is not liqueur-like (as some top-shelf barrel-aged stouts are). Rather, it tastes like a genuine stout ale. As with the nose, the beer has a lot of great flavor, but is not "bourbon-forward" in the ways I would like it to be. Nevertheless, there's a lot to like here.

Overall, a very good beer and one I enjoyed a great deal. Not one of my favorite barrel-aged double stouts, but very well-crafted. The flavor is quite complex (more than I thought it would be at 8.5%). Still, I prefer more vanilla and toasted oak and less dark fruit.

Huge notes of chocolate fudge and brownies in aroma.

Flavor is sweet, chocolatey, and rich. A guilty pleasure of a beer. This is incredible. Should age well.
