Hazy amber pour into a becher, a finger of white head dwindling down to a thin foamy layer rather quickly, leaving light lacing on the glass. Lots of malty sweetness in the aroma, unfortunately, soapy, with some citrus and pine hops in the background. More of that malty sweetness in the taste, giving way to a strong bitterness, notes of orange pith and pine resin, dry, bready, and somewhat bland malts making a reprise, ending with a sticky sweetness on the palate. This seems to be the curse of many a DIPA: using too much malts to get that ABV, without having enough balance in the recipe to keep the hops in command. The bottle said Feb. '14, so it's not like it was a freshness issue. Medium body, sticky mouthfeel and a bit rough overall. Not entirely bad, good for a homebrew kit, but not something I'd go for again.

Bomber > tulip glass

A - Hazy gold with a two finger foamy white head, medium lacing.
S - Pine and orange juice, grapefruit, green pepper, some peach, big maltiness.
T - Wow, not expecting the massive bitterness and the huge malt presence, all you taste is malt, big bitter soapy pine bitterness and alcohol.
M - Lingering soapy bitterness, alcohol burn.
O - Aroma wasnt bad but what the heck happened here?! This tastes atrocious.

@ Ridgewood

Foggy dark gold with a little white creaminess on the surface. Herbal, scallion-like, and sticky pine resin aromas. Big, bitter hoppy flavor. Dark, sappy pine, pulpy citrus juice, oily, heavy earth flavors over a thick caramel base way in the back. Some fleshy tropical fruit sweetness, but the hops stay very raw. Heavy with a lingering, hefty bitterness. I wouldn't call it boozy, but the 10% is obvious. A strong punch in the face with not the most attractive blend of hops for my tastebuds. A half pour would have been fine.

Pours a half-finger lightly yellowed head over a murky apricot liquid. Smells lemon, pine, oranges, lime, grapefruit. Tastes nice, but a bit sweeter than I'd expect. Hop flavors come across muted due to malt sweet that sticks a bit. The clean hop bitter fights with malt sweet, though sharp carbonation sides with the bitter, the bitter doesn't shine like I'd expect for the style. Hop flavors are grapefruit pith, pine, baby aspirin. Esters are nearly absent pear and apricot. Malt flavor is . The hop bitter combines with pine hop piercing and sourish to make the beer come across as medicinal. Clean alcohol sting is appropriate, mild but sharp carbonation, medium-light in the mouth.

This a great IAPA. Poured into a tulip glass. Strong orange-amber fog. Very little head with light carbonation. Citrus grass off the bat with a strong hop hit tapering to a sweetness. Feels like it should be heavier but is more medium. Totally enjoying and would recommend. Good local craft brew.
