A perfect pour leads to two fingers of bready off white foam that has excellent staying power. It does leave an almost solid wall of lace as it slowly fades. Body is a boney amber in tone. Nose is softer than expected with tones of vanilla malt and mineral based hops. First sip yield a mineral based hop profile that is smooth and very approachable. hops become dryer and more prickly as you continue to drink. The backside gets a sense of dandelion stem that sticks on the tongue. all of these hops are balanced by a noticeable malt backbone which may let down some hard core hop heads, but it is nice. Mouthful is mellow with some bitterness coming through and some citrus fruit feel. this brew is very nicely drinkable.

Poured from a 22 oz. bomber into a pint glass. This bottle was bought back in December but not drank until tonight, 2/23/10.

a - Pours a amber/golden color with moderate carbonation and about an inch of white head with little retention.

s - Smells of hops but they are somewhat faded. Some citrus and pine.

t - The malts are actually the first thing that jumps out to me. Very smooth and sweet. Hops are again faded and an after thought. No real bitterness.

m - Medium body with moderate carbonation. Pretty smooth and creamy since the malts are now the main taste.

d - Overall this was very good, but I get the feeling it is very different now than had I drank it fresh. It had a great sweet malt smell and taste, but the hops were definitely faded. I would love to try this again and next time will be drinking it very fresh to compare to this review.

22oz bottle purchased at The Liquor Shoppe in Tygsborro, Mass. Pours a gorgeous crystal-clear red-amber body with over a half inch of off-white head. Brilliantly fruity hops, with orange, grapefruit, lemon, grape, berry, mint. Hops range the spectrum from grapefruit, orange, lemon, mint, grass, herb... Caramel, toffee, and coffee are there in the background, though only enough to balance the hops. Full-bodied with moderate to low carbonation. The pleasant flavor and lack of viscosity make this one of the most drinkable DIPAs I've had. The hop flavors make this well worthy of the name. Absolutely awesome.

22oz bottle poured into a pint glass.

Clear amber brew with creamy foamy head and beautiful intricate lacing left down the glass.

The aroma is clean grapefruity and floral hops, a bit of black tea.

The flavor is lipsmacking, bitter from start to finish, but not overwhelming. The alcohol is suprisingly well hidden, since the hops are strong but not off-balance, and the beer does not come across as sweet. Some tobacco or tea in there, malt holds its own but doesn't try to compete with the hops. How did they strike this balance for such a strong beer? Well done. I like it a lot, but don't love it, some brews squeeze more complexity fromthe hoppy flavors.

22 oz bomber poured into a Duvel tulip

Pour is a slightly hazy orange with three fingers of pillowy foam that dissipates slowly. This beer is very fragrant, with a huge floral hoppy aroma.

Hoptimus Prime smacks you in the face with a floral hoppy flavor... I'd expect to be slapped around by a deceptacon, but why Hoptimus, why? It's cushioned nicely with a substantial malt bill, but then the bitter hop aftertaste knocks you around again. The mouthfeel is big and chewy, and the 9% ABV is nicely disguised amongst everything else that is going on with this beer.

Overall, it is a nice, full bodied DIPA that will scratch your hop itch for sure

Pours a crystal clear copper hue of amber comparable to a shiny new penny. Small airy head that dissipates quickly leaving a white wash of lacing.

The smell is a balanced mix of spicy, herbal hops and rich sugary sweet malts. I get the pungent spice of a variety of hops that eludes me right now, fresh cut green grass, pepper and fresh bread with constant underlying alcoholic phenols.

The taste overwhelms the palate with tons of fruity esters, pear, green apple, guava and tamarind come to mind heavily. The malt backbone is crushing, sweet, rich and very pronounced almost overshadowing the hoppy bitterness and spice that finally comes through in the finish. The alcohol is noticed all the way from start to finish, but is never overwhelming.

The mouthfeel is pretty on point, with the pronounced malt character I would expect a much more syrupy brew, which it's not. Carbonation is on the low side which is not a bad thing. I have to say that this brew feels really nice in your mouth.

Overall, this encompasses what I expect out an East Coast DIPA. On the malty side, 9% and extremely drinkable, EXTREMELY drinkable. This is something that I will definitely seek out again.
