Appearance: Pours a dark bown to light black color with thin tan head that falls quickly. Some lacing seen.
Smell: Smells of chocolate and roasted malts.Nothing to exciting here maybe a little oatmeal, but not much.
Taste: Starts with blast of roasted malts followed by slight chocolate taste though not all that present. Leaves mouth with disappointing however as taste vanishes and akward dry roasted taste that just seems a little off. Nothing great here.
Mouthfeel: Thin and watery not much body. Medium carbonation. Goes down easy at least.
Drinkability: Ugh. I gotta drink all this.
It's decent at best and after half a glass my mouth is tired of tasting like crap. Going to bar now to drink better beer.

Pitch black color, initial large gingerbread colored head. Fades to just a small layer rather quickly. Nice chocolate and coffee in the nose, surprisingly good when compared to the last Pioneer brew I had. Taste is thin, acidic, and sour, however. The chocolate and coffee from the smell are subdued in an unguided watery swamp of off flavors. Not very good at all. Nice window dressing, but this beer is weak bodied, under powered, and rather unenjoyable.

'Triple fudge brownie' brown with meager red-gold highlights. The creamy head is golden dark beige and shows an undulating surface disturbed by a dozen or so shallow craters. A wide band of sudsy residue remains above the slowly descending head and is rent by regularly-spaced portholes of laceless glass. A good stout look.
A good stout nose as well. Predominantly bittersweet chocolate with a modicum of hops and more than a hint of roasted coffee beans. A lovely, multi-dimensional, balanced aroma.
The flavor doesn't quite measure up, but it's a near thing. Coffee has now taken the reins, relegating chocolate to riding shotgun (still in the front seat). Pioneer calls this a Chocolate Oatmeal Stout, but that's a little misleading if my palate is any judge. I don't mind coffee-heavy stouts if the rest of the flavor profile is exceptional (not the case here).
There's still a little sweetness remaining, but it's been superceded by a too-prominent sourness and a bitterness that gathers steam throughout the mouthful and lingers well into the finish. The mouthfeel isn't irredeemable, but it is too light and slightly too carbonated for this style IMO (note: it seems undercarbonated by the bottom of the bottle). Those particular personality traits have no place in my most-favored stouts.
'Oscar' brews an okay stout if you aren't looking to be bowled over with wonderfulness. I've come to expect more than this, though I'd have no trouble buying a sixer or two each year if I lived in or near Black River Falls, WI. Bottom line: an overly tame, but drinkable, breakfast-type stout.

Stouts have never been my favorite (I'm a dark ale guy) but Oscar's was a pleasant surprise.
Color was just short of pitch black, like strong coffee. Very little carbonation and no head.
Chocolate and oatmeal was very present in the taste which did well in complementing the bitterness typically found in any stout. Enough so that I was able to enjoy the perfect balance between the two. Stout lover's might not like this balance and might prefer stouts where the bitterness dominates. But for me, this makes sense.

Pours a deep almost pitch black with just a little ruby showing thru held up thru the light with a thin almond colored head, aromas of bitter chocolate and dark roast coffee.Full rich flavors deep roasted malt, bitter chocolate, earthy raw peanut, along with some caramel.A very nice creamy feel to this one strong flavors but very smooth could imagine on nitro, anyways a winner in my book glad that this was given to me and I still have a few more!

Had this for one of my first beers in a beer club I entered. All of us absolutely fell in love with it. The beer pours dark, almost liquid chocolate and smells of mocha with some hints of roasty nuts. Taste initially is full of dark chocolate and finishes a little bitter. A very good beer. My friends drove up north on a road trip to just purchase this beer and when they stopped at a BW3's to try it on tap they actually met Oscar! The guy told them the story of the beer which is somewhat sad because he gave the recipe to the company to bottle as a special featured brew and then they just took it and continue to make it because it was so well loved. I don't think he makes any money off of the deal. Either way they said he was a cool guy and they returned home with a car full of Oscar's Oatmeal Chocolate Stout.

Black with a full creamy brown head which can be swirled back ... leaves decent lace. Nice balanced chocolate, roasted grain, and coffee aroma and taste. Rich and robust bitter dark chocolate and coffee bean flavors. Medium-full bodied and creamy with a dry roasty Irish Stout-like finish.

Pours a dark black with a short brown head that quickly vanishes.
It smells of roasted malt, coffee and nuts. The smell carries over to the taste. Despite the heavy use of roasted malt, there are minimal tannin flavors. In fact, the flavor of this stout reminds me of Deschutes Black Butte Porter. This stout straddles the taste line between porter and stout. It can go either way.
The body is a bit lighter than I was expecting and the glass-like smoothness is not as prominent here as in other oatmeal stouts. But don't let this picky notes deter you: this is a good beer. I recommend it.

Pours out nice and smooth and shines in dark mahogony with only a few tinges of light showing around the sides. Tan head that's all fluff, keeps to the sides nicely and leaves a bit of skim on top all the way down.
Smells of dark chocolates, oatmeal and roasted grains. A very nice nose on this, really makes me want to dive in right away. It tastes quite chocolatey with a little bit of roastiness up front. Lightly bitter all the way to the finish. A little bit of woodiness seems to come through as well, something like oak...not quite sure. This brew has got me wondering just how much I like it...it's borderline. Not too much depth, but it got enough to pass it by as a decent stout. As I get further down the glass, I start to compare this to taking a bite of chocolate cake (not THAT sweet...but you get the idea).
Floats nice in the mouth too. Medium bodied and packed with carbonation, a little bit too much for me, I feel it took away from the flavor and overall body. I could easily drink a few of these, it's very easy going down the hatch. Pop one open and enjoy.

Pours dark brown-black color, I can't see through the glass when held up to a light, small creamy light brown head that leaves some lacing in my glass, has a chocolate and coffee aroma. Dark roasted malty chocolate flavors, light to medium body that has a soft and creamy mouthfeel, nice bitter and dry chocolate flavors in the finish, very nice.

Intense chocolate and kona coffee smell upon opening. A thin borwn head with little lacing, but still dense enough that the last few drops leave a small ring. Sweet, creamy oatmeal texture with a milk chocolate taste, espresso, and a hint of plums. Nice and sweet, but a dry, sherry like finish. A delightful and complex beer from this otherwise obscure brewery. I found it at the brewer's hometown IGA for $6 a sixer, so it should get points for being a Wisconsin-priced value.

Dark Body, quickly disappearing head, a nice mocha chocolate aroma, the first taste is exquisite, a yummy chocolatey flavor, which mysteriously disappears after the first couple sips, leaving you with a bitter thin dry aftertaste. Disappointing at the end, but those first sips were so good that I will ocassionaly purchase a 6er

This one is opaque brown in color with a large tan head that lasts a good while. It looks awesome, like any other oatmeal stout. A pleasant aroma greets you with the expected toasty/roasty and some oats.
The flavors are immediately bland compared to the pleasant aroma. They're not bad flavors, but dissappointing in strength and presence. There's some oats and chocolate of course, and the roasty/toasty again. It just seems thin. I can't trash it too much though since I love stouts and I could easily drink a few of these in a row. If you're a stout lover, you'll probably enjoy this but don't expect anything strong.

This is a very good stout that has lots of chocolate overtones mixing well with the roasted malts with some coffee like notes. Nice flavor. Surprising good feel and drinkability to this stout. It was like liquid M & M's without the candy coating. The candy is that it's beer, yum. Nice golden dark ruby brown color with very little head. Smells of coffee and cocoa with a good roasty background. Recommendation is high.

Pours a dark ruby with a thin brown head that has little retention. Some nice cocoa and java on the nose. Body is a little light for a stout. Light to medium bodied. Flavor is good. Nice cocoa bean and java highlights. A nice roasted bitterness. Good drinkability factor. Pretty decent stout.

Brewed in Black River Falls Wisconsin...picked up a sampler of this while camping in Wisconsin this past summer..recently saw it in Minnesota and grabbed a sixer of this chocolate oatmeal stout...smell is pretty good...not much head, but black in color...taste is a bit too watered down for me...some cocoa present, and there is some lingering sweetness, but it is just too watery for me...not robust or flavorfull enough..average at best..my rating is probably too high...may border on the below average for a stout..
