Straight from cask at Moan and Dove in Amherst Ma. My first true cask beer. Very dark mahogony color with next to no head. Malty smell. Smooth taste with bread like finish. Very little carbonation. Unlike any other beer I have add. I am very anxious to try another cask beer to compare. Overall not real impressed.

1998 bottle at Lucky Baldwin's.

Pours a mostly still muddy dark brown with a minimal head.

Smells of oxidation, toffee and burnt brown sugar.

Very English style in the malt profile here with lots of burnt caramel, toffee, molasses. Definitely some oxidation, but not too bad given the 11 years age and 7% abv. Dried fruits and and some more toffee in the flavor.

All in all, a decent aged English style barleywine. Not all that complex though, and the oxidation is starting to come through. I'd love a cask pull of this though, that could be good.

Draft at Delly Deli 06/20/2005.

Poured brown hue with medium light brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Medium body with a sticky texture. Medium sweet fruity aroma. Moderate complex flavor with no carbination due to cask.

Good not great

From elcervecero. In Teku glass. Playing Electronic Super Joy. Dried fruits, with some licorice and some roastyness notes. Enjoyable but not mind blowing.

2013 edition.
Dark brown color with practically no head at all. It looks flat.
Light aroma of English earthy hops, some home-made coffee, cola, dark fruits, nuts and chocolate.
Flavor with notes of roasted coffee beans, raisins, cola, fig, earthy and somewhat tangy hops, biscuit, anise or ginger, nutmeg, cocoa and nuts. Dry aftertaste with a lasting rounded roasted note.
Medium body, but feels light, with a mild carbonation. Alcohol of 7.2% abv is absent.
Appearance and aroma wasn’t helping much to outstand this, but the flavor surprised positively given how smooth and drinkable can be a Barley Wine. Relatively not sweet. It does not have the obvious complexity that the style usually provides.

A clear and dark ruby-brown color, the beer has a foamy tan head and low carbonation. The aroma has some pale malt, a little toffee and bread crust, and ,ore than a little bubble-gum and rubber band scent. Not boozy, but the alcohol is detectable. The taste is semi sweet and very, very malty....toast and nuts and nutmets. An interesting flavor. Full in body. This isn't my style of barley wine, and tha aroma is a bit odd, but the beer grows on you, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

ive had this one awhile, so was not sure how it would hold up, didnt realize it was lower abv for the style until i opened it up. still doing just fine several years later, a tad oxidized, but i always find that to be a flattering quality in these english dark ales like this. deep carael color to this one, barely any head on it, but some nice shine and viscosity. sweet malty nose, almost scotch ale-like, with a hint of smoke and deep toasted caramelized grain. honey and brown sugar, cardboard and wood, mild spices, decaying english ale yeast. same thing with the taste, a real tired yeast strain contributes it to it being more of an old ale type, but i like that here, its a cool second layer behind the grain sweetness. notes of raisin and molasses on the finish, a little fresh wood, hickory maybe, like the grill, very autumnal. probably a little more lively and distinctive when fresh, but it has held up pretty well and become super nicely integrated. i have not had nearly enough beer from these guys...

On hand pull at BW3 in Indy. This beer pours a deep dark red color with chestnut around the sides. Slight cream colored head skims just above the liquid. The nose is fruity almost to the point it is vinous in character but not quite. The more it warms up the more caramel and toffee I begin to notice. The flavors in this beer are very sweet. There's a chocolateyness to it that mixes with raisiny flavors. More dark fruit sweetness abounds but it's not all that great. The body is rich and malty but almost syruppy. Finish has mite in alcohol strength. Good beer and a nice departure from the super hopped barleywines but I couldn't have this too often.

Sampled at Rich-O's. The beer arrived a deep brown color with ruby hues and a 1 finger head that fell to ring the top. The nose was weak, with a sweet fruity caramel character and a slight figgyness. The flavor was figgy, with a bit of a tannin flavor. I thought it was just okay. The feel was smooth and mellow with no real carbonaton on it. Overall, I was not overly impressed with it. I liked it but would probaly pass on it again.

Deep mahogany color, chestnut around the edges. Thin off white head, disappears fairly quickly. Fruity nose, combined with alcohol. Sweet, with some candied fruit flavors. Citrus flavored bitterness is restrained. Finishes dry. Well balanced. Low carbonation, slightly creamy mouthfeel. Alcohol is hidden. Not bad, but I seem to enjoy the American hop bombs more. Still a pretty decent cask beer.
