Adnams Ghost Ship has good bitterness with attractive lemon and lime aromas. Ghost Ship is a ghostly pale ale which takes its inspiration from Adnams 600-year-old haunted pub, The Bell. Brewed with a selection of malts - Pale Ale, Rye Crystal and Cara. We use Citra, and a blend of other American hop varieties to create some great citrus flavours.

This was a Christmas gift in 2023, drunk in March 2024.

L: Pours golden orange with a quickly disappearing, thin cap of white head. A few large bubbles dawdle up the glass.

S: The nose is citrus peel, mandarin and orange.

T: Surprisingly bitter, with a strong citurs kick and grapefruit peel riding the whole way through the swallow. The bitterness lingers on the side of the tongue. Once the citric bitterness has washed away, a caramel malt base is more noticeable retronasally.

M: The mouthfeel is smooth, with carbonic prickle never hitting anything above medium-low. It suits the beer.

O: This is better than I expected, and the easy drinkability meant it went down rapidly on a hot day.

Cheers!

On tap at The Old White Horse in Baldock this lunchtime.

Pale amber body, nice and bright, decent lacing. Mildly hoppy aroma, some citrus notes come into play. Very drinkable, clean finish.

Citra hops overpoweringly limey on top of otherwise muted earthy typical UK ale notes. Sessionable due to 4.5% abv. Mostly clear pale amber. Identity crisis - it wants to be a Westie IPA and English Pale ale, but does neither exceptionally well. Usually well-priced for a 4-pack of 440ml cans in most shops.

Pours clear bronze with a patchy, long lasting head. The aroma is of bready, doughy malts, caramel and citrusy, tropical hops. The taste is well balanced mix of bready, cookie dough malts and citrus hops. Melon and floral hop flavors in there too. The mouthfeel is light bodied with medium carbonation. Light bitterness but an abundance of hop flavors and chewy malts in the finish.

A nice English Pale Ale with an American hop profile. Straightforward with enough complexity to make it interesting.

440 mL can from the LCBO; best before Sep 2023 and served slightly chilled.

Pours a clear golden-amber colour, producing roughly two fingers of lumpy, soapy white head that steadily dissipates. Five minutes later it has been worn down to a sudsy collar and cap, with several rings of lovely, delicate lace adhering to the glass - a fine-looking ale for sure. Understated aroma of citrus, melon, doughy malts and an earthy, herbal, weakly spicy hop presence; hints of candied orange peel, tea and berries.

A very nice, light pale ale - I'm getting doughy malts, toffee and a light honey sweetness at the forefront, with hints of grapefruit not far behind. Floral, herbal hops and tea leaf bitterness on the back end, with citrus peel and grapefruit fading into a mildly bitter, slightly resiny aftertaste with a hint of rye. Light in body, with relatively low carbonation; feels very smooth on the tongue, maybe even a little slick. Supremely easy to knock back - I could easily enjoy a few of these in a row on a Friday night.

Final Grade: 3.93, a B+. When I really started to dive into craft beer (back in the day), English pale ales (& bitters) were some of the few styles that were readily accessible to me here in Ontario (circa 2010-11). Their popularity has dropped precipitously since then, but I still have a soft spot for these true session ales - which is why it's such a pleasure to stumble across one as good as Adnams Ghost Ship. Perfect balance, and totally crushable: the use of Citra hops does give it a vaguely 'American' feel, but I won't hold that against it. I'll continue buying this for as long as it's available.

Pours a clear, deep amber coloration with a medium, creamy head. Smells of doughy, slightly grainy malt and citrus hops, with notes of grapefruit and orange rind, as well as some spicy, herbal undertones. Taste is a great balance of doughy, grainy very slightly caramelly malt and fruity, herbal, spicy, slightly resinous hops, with citrus notes of grapefruit and orange rind, as well as some crushed black peppercorn and just a hint of pine. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some grapefruit, black pepper and pine lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

This make for a pretty nice English Pale Ale with distinct citrus notes, backed up by lighter grainy, slightly caramelly malts and herbal, spicy and resinous accents, finishing with a good, somewhat piney bitterness. While I think that you can taste the seven months a bit more here than with their bitter, the citrus still standing out, but perhaps not quite as expressive as a few months ago, it still drinks rather pleasantly, with that certain, restrained spice from the rye malt adding a nice bit of pep to this.

Had on cask. Very murky shades of dark orange with a tight but large off-white head. Grassy hops with orange in the simple but steady nose. Taste is the same only the orange has a slight medicinal quality in the finish, mild malts are the backbone. Feel is mild and while led by the hops is not particularly dry or bitter, warm and slight resin shape instead

500 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 4.5%. Clear deep golden to amber colour, moderate white head. Very nice aroma of fruity / citrussy hops. Relatively light bodied, but has a solid hoppiness throughout. Citrussy notes, resinous and bitter in the aftertaste. Not very sweet, but has some notes of caramel malts. Another decent ale from Adnams.

I have tried the canned version of this beer as it was recommended to me as tastier than the bottled version, it pours an amber with orange tones light body with an off white tone foamy top, the aroma is floral and citra hops , tastes malty with slightly citrusy notes of the british hops and malts, it is a light bodied refreshing beer with a minimal bitter aftertaste and minimal carbonation; it is pleasant and easy to drink as a session beer.

A nice British pale ale with an American hop twist. Smooth and hoppy, but balanced and... did I say smooth? Citrus (from Citra hops) and a little fruity, with a lighter body. Some toffee notes from the English malts. A nice bitter bite at the end that has you crying for more. Copper/orange color.
A good pale ale. Easy to drink a few
