my first beer from these guys, and apparently their most popular. not a lot of english pale ale beers out there anymore, so it was cool to see one. the beer is fine and drinkable, but there isnt a whole lot happening here, and while its balanced and mellow, it lacks some of the character i most like in the style, namely the bready classic english yeast character, which seems almost entirely stripped out of this. the grain build is nice, a little thin for the flavors its supporting, but i get the crystal type and the traditional english coppery flavor in it. there is a nice bittering hop finish too, more than expected actually, but there isnt a whole lot of flavor to it, it just goes from malty to bitter without much of a flavor transition. it is on the drier side for the style though, and makes me want a big handful of pretzels. good carbonation too, this has the potential to be refreshing. i like my english beer a little more old school, i want more yeast character here, but its not a bad pint...

On draft - a little cold - but pours very clear dark copper with a thin but stable mat of creamy head that leaves rich lacing. Aromas of caramel and toast. Flavour: Light slightly grassy bitterness balances malty caramel and toast. Slightly metalic back.

Clear, dark amber color. Excellent head which lasts and leaves a thick blanket of lace.

Semi sweet nose with a strong caramel aroma. Lots of crystal malt.

Very British in style and flavor. relatively dry but with a strong caramel tongue. High carbonation with a decent body. Long coating of the tongue during the aftertaste but with the low hop content, it's short on flavor.

Nice Amber but little head, sweet caramel malt nose, medium body with crisp, decent dry pale ale finish. Not bad at all but not outstanding.

At Turtle Jacks in Hamilton....trying the 23oz. It poured clear amber with white head that is not leaving any lace. The scent is faint and more non-descript than anything. The taste is nicely balanced and easy to drink. It truly is a simple pale ale. The Mouthfeel is lighter in body with smooth carbonation. Overall it's ok.

Good standard pale ale that hits the marks in all areas but mouthfeel, which is very drying. Nice color.

Dark amber color with nice cream but it dissipates quickly. Malt IPA with a very smooth (like honey) with light bitter finish. Nothing that leaves you overwhelmed but really nice beer worth purchasing. To a novice like me learning as I go, I enjoyed it.

I bought a six-pack (cans) of English Bay Pale Ale in a BC liquor store. Poured in to a pint glass.

Pours a deep copper color, clear with a bubbly off-white head.

Smells like wet grain. More of a cereal aroma than fruit.

Taste is very malt forward, with a but of a caramel flavor and a very mild bitterness on the finish.

Feel is thin, but not especially crisp. Very much a caramel malt feel.

Overall an OK pale ale. I make this more of a British style ale, with the malt dominance and subdued hop presence. I found better beers in Canada.

Pours super smooth with a decent head, nothing to write home about though it left some beautiful lacing. The clear Amber colour has a luminous quality that is very appealing.
Aroma is a bit tough to pin down, definitely a copper penny twang and a sort of sweet undertone.
Flavour is impeccably balanced, just an all around satisfying sip of burnished maltiness with that same coppery tone and a hoppy back bite. Something about this beer is meaty and satisfying without being too sweet or syrupy. A well rounded easy drinker and a perfect pairing for beef.
Seriously delightful mouthfeel, that's where this beer truly impresses me. The carbonation is just right, soft full mouth tingles that just wash the flavour across your palate.
All in all a well rounded beer and a perfect accompaniment to most pub fare.
