I pretty much concur with ZAP. Tried the '05 Peated Wee Heavy at the Mid-Winter Brewfest today; it's the second time I've tried it, the first being at the Great Lakes Brewfest in Racine over the summer. It's somewhat sweetly malty, just a tad smoky, but not peaty/smoky enough for my tastes. I was expecting more. A rather unassuming beer, though apparently the '04 was hugely peaty and, having been barrel-aged for 18 months, will be offered at the Great Taste of the Midwest in August 2006.

Poured at the brewery into an English style pint glass a translucent golden copper thin off white lacing. Appearance is very light and quite clean for the style. Aroma matches a glass of Laphroaig on the rocks after the ice has melted half way. Laphroaig is a wonderful highland single malt with huge smoke and peat aromas. This wee heavy captures those aromas but waters them down a bit like a scotch on the rocks that has been sitting for a bit. I personally find the aroma to be mouth watering. Taste is a bit light comprised of a malt base with some smoke and peat. Mouthfeel is very light but nicely carbonated. This is a very refreshing and drinkable wee heavy. It’s not as big in the taste and MF components as I would like but on the other hand, none of the flavors are off at all and it’s kinda nice to have a wee heavy that I can just throw back.

Auburn colored...clean looking....very little aroma....faint smokiness is about it....taste is sweet and sticky but lacks peatiness....medium to full bodied...feels about right....nice enough..I like the sweet malty flavor profile but this seems to be lacking the smokiness/peatiness even in a sublte manner..
